As the lecture ended and all the other students had left the room, I noticed that other than me, the princess, and Ms. Claura, the princess’ bodyguard Rynaetra also stayed behind.
I guess even within the academy premises, there’s no way the princess would be left by herself. While I realize that now, I’m honestly surprised I didn’t think about that during class. To put it in another way, that means I didn’t consider Rynaetra to be worthy of caution. Still, my instincts are hardly reliable, so I can’t be confident about that.

I mostly determine threat levels by magic power capacity, and I’m by no means knowledgeable in combat, so I can’t distinguish strong fighters by how they carry themselves. Ciel might actually be capable of that, but since detection is part of my role, I wouldn’t even think of relying on Ciel for this.
I just have to protect Ciel from anyone suspicious approaching her, and even without that, I’ll continue protecting Ciel anyway.

「Well, the reason I had you two stay is because I want the two of you to try this magic circle, but come to think of it, Rynaetra, you haven’t tried it yet, right? Would you like to?」
「In that case, allow me to go first.」

Rynaetra promptly touches the magic circle Ms. Claura placed on top of the table. I believe she volunteered to go first in case something goes wrong with the magic circle, but I’m frankly amazed someone of our age is willing to do that.
I’d absolutely do the same for Ciel, but even so, I’d make sure to keep myself as safe as possible first before touching it. After all, I understand by now that casually sacrificing myself wouldn’t make Ciel happy.

Rynaetra begins to pour magic power into the magic circle, somewhat clumsily and slowly.
Still, she managed to successfully activate the spell, and Ms. Claura clapped in praise.

「Wow, well done. Activating it is already difficult enough, but you’re also the first to succeed.」
「No, I…」

Being praised, Rynaetra responded with an awkward expression. In a sense, she ended up potentially stealing the spotlight from the princess, so she might have felt guilty about that.
Still, the lightning sorcerer Alcrei, while he didn’t join this course, should be easily capable of performing this feat as well, so I don’t think there’s a need to feel bad about that.
I’m sure being the first to accomplish something of this level wouldn’t bring much joy to the princess either.

「Now then, princess.」
「Yes, thank you. Miss Ailneige, would you mind if I went first?」
「Not at all.」

Her going ahead and showing a standard to follow is very appreciated.
Hearing my reply, Princess Leshimiiya pours magic power into the magic circle without any sign of resistance, activating the spell without a hitch. If I have to comment, I’d deduct points for her solely focusing on the magic circle during the process. That’s fatal for solo hunters. But sorcerers don’t normally act solo, so it’s still a passing mark.

「I knew you could do this much.」
「It was quite difficult.」
「For this level of sorcery, you mean. And lastly, Ailneige, could you try it as well?」
「Understood.」

Taking the princess’ place, I hovered my hand on the magic circle.
I then tried pouring a small amount of magic power, and it flowed through extremely well.
It probably uses ink that’s receptive to magic power.

Thanks to that, it’s extremely easy to activate the spell, but it’s too easy, making it difficult to hold back.
With no other choice, I directed my magic power to thoroughly follow every inch of the magic circle as if to verify every step of its circuitry. Needlessly straining my focus, I activated the spell with roughly the same precision as the princess, and Ms. Claura clapped in applause.

That applause is probably not for the trouble I went through, but I don’t intend to speak of it anyway. I also had a little discovery just now, so I’ll consider this a good thing.

「The three of you can already proceed to the next step at this point, but what do you think?」
「I’ll continue to attend the regular class.」
「I share the same sentiments as Miss Ailneige.」
「If the princess wishes so, then I will simply abide.」
「I see… I understand. The next lectures will probably bore you three, so keep that in mind.」

With those words, she then thanked us for staying late before leaving the room.

「Miss Ailneige, would you like to have lunch together after this? With the current time, there shouldn’t be many people around.」
「Let me see… Alright.」

I contemplated my options, but since chatting with the princess wouldn’t really hurt, I opted to join her.
Thinking it over, the other students should still be in class right now, so it certainly would be easier to eat lunch now with there being fewer people than normal.

「In that case, let’s head to the cafeteria.」
「Sure, I’m in your hands.」

With that, I followed the somewhat cheerful-looking Princess Leshimiiya as we headed to the cafeteria.

◇◇◇

For a moment, I was concerned about the princess just casually going to the cafeteria, but since she doesn’t seem to be worried about it, I decided to follow suit.
The cafeteria doesn’t fit with the princess’ image, but since Princess Leshimiiya is wearing the same uniform as the rest of the students, she doesn’t stand out that much.
Speaking of standing out, Ailneige, with her long white hair, is frankly more conspicuous than her.

While the cafeteria isn’t crowded, it isn’t completely devoid of people.
Around 20% of the seats are occupied, I think?
Arriving at the cafeteria, the princess, who now definitely looks excited, scanned the menu and said, 「This one, please,」 with her usual tone. Following her, I ordered the same meal as the princess did—a decently priced salad and steak-ish meat set with bread and soup.

After that, we searched for seats and sat face-to-face with each other.

「Princess Leshimiiya, are you perhaps looking forward to the cafeteria food?」
「Was it that obvious? I’m embarrassed to admit it, but yes. It’s my first time having the experience of choosing my own food, you see.」
「Is that so? That’s easy to imagine.」
「I rarely get the opportunity to eat hot food like this as well.」

And that ends this half of the chapter! It seems like we’ll continue having some private time with our local princess!

It was honestly quite adorable how the princess is excited about normal food. At first, Ain’s monologue seems to imply that she’s excited about having lunch with Ailneige, but she’s just plain excited to have cafeteria lunch, period. Scrolling back a bit, it was also funny how Rynaetra was like “Nice, an opportunity to protect the princess—Wait, no!” That, for me, surprisingly highlighted how she’s still a child like the other students of the academy. Let’s see how the next half goes next week~

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
