I’ll be troubled if the princess collapses from overexertion.
Losing her assistance is part of it, but mostly because it’ll probably be troublesome to access the roof to play with the spirits if that happens.
As we exchanged words, the door opened, and Ms. Claura appeared.

「Alright, sit down. Let’s begin our lecture~」

She entered with her usual demeanor, but as she scanned the students, her eyes halted on me—and probably the princess. It was as if her eyes were saying, 「Seriously?」 and 「Why are you here?」 But she then showed a gleaming smile and immediately broke eye contact.

「Now then, first off, everyone, what do you think is the most important factor when performing sorcery?
Okay… You, what do you think?」

From the lectern, Ms. Claura asked the male student sitting in front of her.

「Magic power capacity?」
「Yes, you’re right. Then, does anyone know how to increase one’s magic power capacity~?」

To Ms. Claura’s inquiry, not a single student raised their hand. Some of them are whispering amongst themselves. Common knowledge says that proactively increasing magic power capacity is difficult, so the increase is vastly reliant on one’s natural growth. Though there are also special cases where a person’s magic power increases after experiencing a life-changing turning point. This is probably because this experience results in the growth of the soul, which governs one’s magic power.

And the most irregular method is to ingest a magic power overload drug and forcibly increase your capacity. It’s the quickest way, but it risks death. However, with enough effort, even your hair turns into a magic circuit. But it’ll also turn white.
While I do love Ciel’s white hair, it does occasionally hurt my heart seeing it.

『You know how to do it, right, Ain?』
『Only if we have that drug, that is. I don’t think it’s easy to find those, you know?』
『That’s true. We’re fine, since our magic power is still increasing, but once we stop growing, it’ll be difficult to increase our total capacity.』
『I do find it meaningless to increase ours any further, though.』

When was the last time I actually exhausted my magic power?
Moreover, with my magic power currently mixed with divine energy, I believe I can do more than what my actual capacity allows.
On the other hand, since I use my magic power near exclusively for maintaining our barrier, Ciel expends more magic power between us, and if I recall, she even ran out of magic power when fighting against Tur.

Even so, it’s a mystery if we’ll ever encounter a situation as extreme as fighting with Tur in the future.
Our natural growth is excessive enough, if you ask me.

While Ciel and I were talking, a female student in the front sheepishly raised her hand and answered, 「I think I’ve read that someone who defeated a dragon gained an increase in magic power.」
With a smile and clap, Ms. Claura responded, 「I’m impressed that you know,」 and continued the discussion.

「Excluding the increase from natural growth, one might gain an increase in magic power after undergoing special experiences. For that reason, having a large magic power capacity is deemed special, but during our class, I want you to forget about this.」

Ms. Claura’s words caused the students to react with confusion.
The only exceptions are probably me and Princess Leshimiiya, I think? There might be others, but I can’t identify them from my position.

「Why forget? It’s because, as explained earlier, increasing one’s magic power capacity is a difficult thing. In other words, this course alone won’t increase your capacity. In that case, there’s no point thinking about it. What I’ll be teaching is the fundamentals, and for everyone qualified to undertake this course, having insufficient magic power will never be an issue.」

The students had a lukewarm response; some were convinced, some were not.
While her reasoning was expected, I am surprised she said it so bluntly. Perhaps it’s her judgment as a former hunter with real combat experience.

「In this course, we will be focusing on magic power circulation and, consequently, control. Some of you might have expected us to go straight to spell-casting, but we’ll be postponing that until everyone does well enough, so do your best.」
「Then how are we going to use sorcery?」
「For that, we’ll use this.」

From the blind spot of the lectern, Ms. Claura took out a large sheet of paper with a magic circle drawn on it.

『That magic circle is so awful.』
『That’s true. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen one that inefficient.』
『Which is exactly why it can be used for circulation and control practice, I suppose.』
『I suppose so.』

The magic circle we were shown only had one function: to light up.
And yet, not only is it layered with what seem to be various safety measures, but it’s also overcomplicated, resulting in it becoming as difficult to cast as upper E to D-rank level spells.
Without my assistance, Ciel can presently cast B-rank spells mid-combat with moderate ease. For A-rank spells, she’ll need to focus and concentrate.
As such, as inefficient as it is, she can instantly activate a magic circle of this level no problem.

And since it only emits light, I can also operate it without issues. If it was an offensive spell, even if I activated it, it’ll turn harmless.

「Anyhow, I have three sheets here, so let’s have everyone try it today. Take turns with the person in front of your row, okay?」

Saying so, she beckoned three students sitting before her and instructed the others to line up behind them.
As half of the students stood in line and all eyes were on the magic circles, Ms. Claura approached our seat.

「Umm, would you two also like to try? Frankly, you can do it, right?」
「While it may take me some time, yes, I believe I can do it.」

Since Princess Leshimiiya answered first, 「The same goes for me,」 I followed her lead.
Hearing this, Ms. Claura showed a troubled look before asking, 「Could you two stay for a while after the end of class?」

「I don’t mind. I’m free for the next period, after all.」
「What a coincidence, I’m also free for the next period.」
「In that case, see you later.」

Saying so with a relieved expression, Ms. Claura returned to the lectern. It was then that I turned to Princess Leshimiiya and said, 「By the way—」

「Yes?」
「Do your remaining courses happen to be Hunter’s Sorcery, Monsterology, and Combat Training?」
「No, while I do have Combat Training, I haven’t taken the other two. That’s why this really is just a coincidence.」
「Thank you for answering.」

In that case, maybe it is really just a coincidence?
Though even if it is intentional, it’s not really anything troublesome.

And that ends this chapter! Our girls are finally in their first proper class, and it even came with a familiar face in form of Ms. Claura!

It was really funny how she basically did a double take when she saw our girls and the princess. “Why are you here?” indeed. It’s also nice to see that Claura leveraging her experience to give the students practical lessons, especially with how big of an advantage magic power control has given not only our protagonist, but the other sorcerer side characters we have met in the past.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
