Perhaps Juerd didn’t really like having followers to begin with.

Assuming that he’s doing his best to protect Ausente, all this honestly has nothing to do with us, so I hope we can continue living as we like.
Frankly speaking, with the nature of his Hero Job, he likely won’t be able to avoid standing out, so for better or for worse, he will inevitably attract the eyes of nobles.
Simply having a quarrel like what happened this time is one thing; some might even take his loved ones hostage in a bid to manipulate him.

Now, perhaps the king’s allies are taking action to prevent such incidents from occurring, but the involvement of royals isn’t as fail-safe as it sounds either.
After all, there is an anti-Central faction.
Nonetheless, even if such a thing does happen, the hero will surely not abandon Ausente as long as the royals stand by his side. And the princess did say that they’ve already tied him down.

As we sat down on our seat, Palra greeted us, 「Ailneige, good morning.」
Until we arrived, Palra was sitting silently as the other students merrily chatted with each other, so I’m honestly impressed that she greeted Ailneige so readily.

「Good morning.」
「Ailneige, have you already decided your courses? I didn’t pass a lot, so it was easy to choose from.」
「Is it mostly hunter courses?」
「Yup. I can aim to be a hunter, soldier, or knight, but I’m thinking that, if I’m a hunter, I might be able to find work even by myself…」
「It certainly isn’t improbable.」

Coordination with others is particularly important for knights, and that might be difficult to ask of Palra as she is now. Though working as a solo hunter comes with its own set of challenges, in my opinion.
I don’t know the exact intricacies of the Huntsman Job, but if it’s as I imagine it to be, then she might be able to make a decent living gathering herbs while keeping vigilant of her surroundings.

「So I’m taking Combat Training, Hunter Studies, Fieldwork Training, Monsterology, and Courtesy, but is there anything else you think I should go for?」

Saying so, Palra showed us the list of courses available for her.
Combat Training needs no elaboration, while Hunter Studies is a shallow delve into a wide variety of important lessons for hunters.
Fieldwork Training is a practical training course to be held in the forest within the premises of the academy. And Monsterology is a more specialized study of monsters compared to what is taught in Hunter Studies.
It goes without saying, but all of these are the basic-level courses.

Combat Training is differentiated for hunter, soldier, and knight aspirants, but basic Combat Training is an integrated course for all specializations.
This is because it mainly focuses on the basics of weapon handling and stamina building.
And courses where repetition is important, like Combat Training, are generally conducted multiple times a week.

I should have known this, but it seems like we overlap most courses with Palra.

『Ain, what do you think?』

Ciel was quick to give up on selecting courses for Palra, so I answered, 『Perhaps Herbology and Scouting Practicals?』
Ciel relayed my answer word-for-word, and Palra, without any hesitation, decided to undertake both courses as well.
At worst, she can just quit if the courses don’t suit her, and choosing as many options available isn’t necessarily bad, but wouldn’t it be better if you thought about it first, even just a little?
Oh well, it is her decision.

After that, we listened to Palra as we did before and eventually, Ms. Claura appeared.
Before I could notice it, the whole class was assembled.

「Alright class, sit down. Looks like everyone’s present.」

After seeing everyone sit down and confirming that no one was absent, she continued.

「Today is the course selection day.
Once you turn in your documents, there’s nothing else to do, so you can spend the day as you like. However, make sure to check your lecture rooms so that you won’t have any troubles tomorrow.
If you can’t find your rooms tomorrow, don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
And so, for those who have already presented their course choices, you may now go. For those who have yet to decide, I’ll be waiting here until the lunch bell, so make up your minds by then.」

As soon as she said, ‘you may now go‘, some students began packing up, and by the time she finished speaking, they had already left the classroom.
Now that was quick and casual. Still, it’s much better than an unnecessarily long-winded homeroom.
During Ms. Claura’s explanation, I observed Juerd, but it seems like he had nothing to say in particular. The other troublemaker, Alcrei, while having a cheeky expression, didn’t have any complaints either.
I guess they came to some sort of agreement yesterday, at least on the surface level.

『What shall we do now?』
「Ailneige, if you’d like, can we go around together?」
「Well…」
『What do you think?』
『I think it’s fine to be with her. If you’re alone, other people might try to talk to you as well.』
「Sure. First, let’s visit the hunter-related lecture venues.」
「Yay! Thanks!」

Palra was practically bouncing with joy, but if this is her reaction, what would she have done if Ailneige didn’t agree?
She seems to be close with her roommate, Tietta, but is she not going around with her?
As this crossed my mind, Palra gave an answer.

「The truth is, I wanted to go around with Tiye too, but she isn’t taking any hunter courses. She wants to make equipment for female hunters, she said. Clothes that are both fashionable and practical.」
「I see.」
「Apparently, she was saved by a female hunter in the past, and that time she heard how they can’t really wear cute clothes. That’s why she decided to make fashionable clothes for hunters that are durable too. She even promised that she’d make equipment for me in the future, you know?」

While Palra happily chatters next to her, Ciel stood up to leave.

And that ends this chapter! Looks like our girls are going around with Palra! And after reading her POV the other day, I’m complete cheering her on! You can do it, Palra! You can definitely make friends in the big city! Pushing AinCiel’s “Well, it’s not really a bother” buttons should be easy enough for an innocent girl like you!

Speaking of AinCiel, it was funny how Ciel didn’t even bother to paraphrase and parroted Ain’s answer word-for-word. And it’s cute how, despite her general pessimism towards humanity, Ain really thinks about people she… well, cares about. Even if it’s partly because she just has a tendency to overthink. The fact that she generally has nothing else to do probably helps, too.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
