「The rooftop directly above this floor; how about there?」
「So the rooftop is actually accessible.」
「Yes. It even offers a space to accommodate tea parties, you see.」
「However, it’s not a place anyone can simply use, is it?」

Since it requires reaching this floor, which is exclusive to the royal family, I’m sure it’s a very clandestine location. However, the same restrictions apply to us.
Ascending to this floor requires the use of a sorceric tool, so we’ll have to ask for Princess Leshimiiya’s permission every single time. That’s a chore, and we can’t really let her know what we’re… Actually, we can. It’s just playtime with spirits; even if the princess sees it, it’ll only look like I’m playing with myself.
Rather, since she’s already aware that we’re Cielmer, it’s not really a problem if she learns that we can see spirits.

Unlike in Estoque, which had no denizens of other races, a member of the royal family like Princess Leshimiiya should have at least some knowledge about spirits.
Well, I don’t actually know Estoque’s opinion of spirits, though.

「That won’t be an issue, Miss Ailneige. Right at the end of the hallway where your room is located, there is a hidden corridor leading to this floor. If you make use of it, you should be able to make it here with ease.」
「Wouldn’t it be a problem if your attendants see me?」
「Only a small few are permitted here, and I’ll make sure to inform them about you, so it’s alright.
But in exchange, if I may be so forward, could you spare the time to chat with me here again in the future?」
『So in exchange for offering the location, she wants our goodwill. What do you think, Ciel?』
『Isn’t it fine? Either way, it seems like we’ll need to interact with Princess Leshimiiya regularly anyway. Rather than chatting with her in public, it would be less conspicuous to have our chats here, right?』

Now that she mentioned it, Ciel has a point; it’s much better to chat with the princess in this enclosed place.
Here, no student would accidentally overhear or walk into our conversations, and it’s far preferable to her frequently talking to us in the classroom.

「In that case, allow me to take up the offer.」
「I’m glad to be of help. Incidentally, may I ask what you intend to do at such a place?」

With her blue eyes filled with unease, Princess Leshimiiya asked my intent.
I was hoping that she wouldn’t ask, but I guess things never go that easily.
I’m sure she can’t just ignore whatever another nation’s key individual plans to do in an out-of-sight location, and this conversation is still within the contract’s limits, so I decided to ask Ciel if I can honestly answer the princess.
She instantly gave her okay, but the speed of her response made me feel somewhat worried instead.

Even if I were to do something wrong, would Ciel just give me complete affirmation? But, well, I guess it’s too late to wonder that.

「To mingle with spirits.」
「Mingle with spirits… is it?」

Seemingly not expecting such an answer, Princess Leshimiiya parroted my words.

「You know of spirits, yes?」
「They are beings who give blessings to nature that are said to be visible to elves and dwarves, I’ve been told.」
「I can actually see those very spirits. And for some reason, they seem to have taken a liking to me, so I have to interact with them from time to time. If I don’t, they tend to gather around me without warning.」
「Spirits gather to you…」
「This country has a sizable non-human race population, so if spirits gather to me, I might end up looking suspicious.」

Princess Leshimiiya furrowed her brow and fell into deep thought, but I didn’t tell a single lie. In fact, I probably shared more information than necessary.
However, I can understand if she finds it unbelievable. Even excluding our relationship with spirits, our background and history are full of unbelievable things.

Being imprisoned for 10 years since birth, escaping being sold off because of a monster attack, resolving a monster stampede—an artificial one, but a stampede still—alone at 10 years old, and now being an A-rank Hunter of practically S-rank strength and Mother Fiiyanamia’s adopted daughter. Also, being half a step into divinity. It makes absolutely no sense.

「Thank you for answering my inquiry. I’ll show you the path to the rooftop; could you follow my lead?」
「Of course.」

After finally digesting my words, Princess Leshimiiya began to guide me to the roof. On the way, she spoke to the servants, informing them that our conversation had ended.
With the servants in tow, we exited onto a lawn-covered rooftop that had a gazebo to serve as shade while not obstructing the view, furnished with a wooden garden table and chair set.

Even without that, the roof was arranged like a small park; if this place is open to the students, it would likely become a popular spot. I guess being able to monopolize this is part of the royalty’s power.

「This is it.」
「It’s quite well maintained.」
「It seems like there was once a royal who fancied this place, so ever since then, it has been assigned an exclusive gardener to keep it serviceable. The gardener performs maintenance during class hours, so feel free to come here at any time outside of that.」
「Thank you very much.」

After this, we once again returned to the princess’ room.
We were then guided to what would be the servant’s break room in our own quarters, where a slight indentation in the wall caught my eye—likely something they keep concealed under normal circumstances.
Princess Leshimiiya pushed the wall next to the indentation, resulting in the indented wall retreating and revealing a staircase leading down.

「This is the hidden corridor I previously mentioned. Please be aware that it’s somewhat narrow.」
「It seems that this one doesn’t use any sorceric tools.」
「Since it’s an emergency-use escapeway, it was apparently constructed to be usable in the absence of sorcery.
You can also travel to the other floors through this, so please feel free to use it as you like.」
「Can I assume that you’re placing a lot of trust in me?」

The instant she, a nation’s princess, told us about a corridor that leads directly to her room, the question should have answered itself. But perhaps it’s just posturing to keep us in check.

And that ends this chapter! Social Link: The Princess has unlocked access to the Rooftop Garden!

I like how the princess literally didn’t know how to react to the random info about Ain/Ciel and spirits. But I guess that also shows how little about Fii is known to the world. Also, giving access to a secret royal escape route, yeah, I’d assume that she’s put a lot of damn trust in you, Ain, lol. Otherwise, she just probably thinks that, with what she currently knows, it doesn’t matter at this point. Also, while it took me a while to notice, I do like how the princess’ name practically fated her to be related to Fii somehow.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
