With the understanding that we are Cielmer, Fiiyanamia’s adopted daughter, the princess summoned us to a place where sorcery cannot be used while she had complete preparations.
Cielmer would have the choice of just not coming here, so it’s not exactly a forced summon, but depending on how you see it, you could even say that Princess Leshimiiya is picking a fight with us.
At the very least, this is a situation where, if the room is surrounded by armed and capable knights and soldiers, Ciel alone may not be able to escape.
Princess Leshimiiya likely understands this much, yet she still set up this environment; but despite Ciel’s words, she returned a response without falter.
「This situation was created by my sole judgment. In this case, wouldn’t the responsibility for it rest solely on my shoulders?」
「That’s true. If that really is the case, regardless of what happens here, we will not do anything against the country of Ausente.」
After all, this is an issue that can be settled here and now.
In other words, if anything happens here, we can, at worst, just kill Princess Leshimiiya and those that cooperated with her. However, the kingdom of Ausente might do something in retaliation.
At that point, we will have a conflict with the kingdom of Ausente itself.
Conversely, in the unlikely event that Ciel was harmed, would Central take action? I don’t know, but if they judged that I, Ainsel, was harmed, the spirits might take retribution.
Though even in the most unlikely of events, the creator god did promise that we wouldn’t die until the age of 15.
My thought process has gotten pretty violent, it seems. Nevertheless, it’s for Ciel’s protection; it can’t be helped. I do intend to avoid this as much as possible, so I hope Ausente will be forgiving.
While that was on my mind, Princess Leshimiiya took out a sheet of paper. The somewhat nostalgic item appears to be the sheet used for magic contracts.
As Ciel sifted through the given contract, it promised that everything spoken here shall not be divulged by Princess Leshimiiya—it even says that she will be forbidden to share it with anyone else through all means of communication.
On the other hand, there is nothing that is required of us.
「This is the greatest show of apology and sincerity I can offer.」
『Ain, what do you think?』
『It’s undoubtedly a show of sincerity, in my opinion. The contract is so favorable for us to the point of suspicion, but I don’t see any hidden loopholes in the writing.』
Due to the contract’s simplicity, it’s difficult to hide traps within it.
No matter how much skepticism I read its contents with, the most Princess Leshimiiya can do after this contract would be to imply that there’s something Ailneige is hiding.
Which is why I could tell that Princess Leshimiiya was being sincere.
However, wouldn’t this restrict the princess too much?
I don’t know what we’ll be discussing after this, but I think it would be convenient if she could say that Ailneige and Cielmer are one and the same in certain situations.
Rather, if we need to reveal our identity, the truth would sound more credible from the princess’ mouth, and that might help resolve things before any escalation happens.
『It appears that she wants us to forgive her with this contract, but what do you think, Ciel?』
『It should be fine, right? Signing the contract would probably help end this conversation faster, too.』
Despite Ciel’s prior intimidation, she doesn’t seem to be that angry.
While she might be a little miffed, she may or may not be curious about the princess’s reasons at this point. Personally, I feel the same kind of sympathy toward the princess that I do for Chasse, so I won’t oppose Ciel’s stance.
『Understood. Still, this contract seems a bit too limiting on the princess’ end.』
『So you think that it’s alright for us to trust Princess Leshimiiya, Ain?』
『For as long as we don’t intend on harming Ausente, at least. When we’re forced to reveal your identity to avoid trouble, I believe things will go smoother with Princess Leshimiiya’s good word.』
『Then I’ll change the details a little before signing.』
As we came to our decision, Ciel added, Unless the person in this room identifying herself as Ailneige has given express permission, or unless sharing it poses no risk to her, as one of the conditions.
With this, Princess Leshimiiya can now share the contents of our private conversation with a third party as long as it won’t put us in a disadvantageous position.
As for what that entails, it is judged not by the princess’ own perception, but objectively. If she is about to reveal disadvantageous information, she will not be able to relay it, and if she tries to force it out, it may even lead to death.
As Ciel returned the edited contract to Princess Leshimiiya, she gazed at it with surprise.
「Will this really be alright?」
「Restricting you excessively would probably be disadvantageous for me.」
「You have my gratitude.」
「If you’re fine with this, please add your signature.」
「Of course.」
Writing both of their names and adding a drop of blood each, they completed the contract. Whether it’s fine to use an alias in a contract can be confirmed at its completion. If it’s not allowed, the contract does not succeed.
This time, the contract was successful, so it should be alright. I don’t really know the specifics of it, but I think it was effective in our situation because both parties properly recognized that Ailneige is just an alias.
「My apologies for all the trouble. Now then, allow me to explain why I had to take such a drastic action this time.」
「So you are going to talk about it.」
「We can’t move on to the main subject otherwise, you see.」
「I’ve said before that I only want to have a peaceful time in the academy, but is this arrangement no longer possible?」
I believe that we and Princess Leshimiiya would have been better off with a relationship of mutual non-interference. And the princess should understand that herself, so it’s safe to assume that there must have been a change in circumstances.
And that ends this part! Going so far as using contract magic, Princess Leshy did *not* want any misunderstanding from her end. Poor girl needs to have a body double and just take a break from the political drama. Well, she does have more freedom than the other royals, so I guess a body double wouldn’t be that necessary?
Meanwhile, Ain has her brain processing at max speeds, while Ciel is just chilling. Figuratively gaslight, girlboss, but failed at gatekeep(-ing Ain). Oh, maybe she’s still mad about the dance? That would be so funny. Anyhow, it seems like the formalities has ended, and now we’re on the main topic.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
