Weary from his journey, Lin Feng made his way back to camp around 5 pm. The unyielding rain formed a thick mist around him, leaving him feeling disoriented and dreamlike. Another illusion, perhaps?
“Ruo Lian! It’s me, open up!” he shouted.
To his astonishment, it wasn’t Ruo Lian who responded, but Liu Mengqi. She caught him as he stumbled, wiping him down with a towel, unsure if it was sweat or rain soaking him.
“You okay there?” she inquired.
“I’m good. Liu Mengqi, didn’t expect you here,” Lin Feng said, trying to clear his foggy head.
“Just finished my shift,” she answered casually. As she continued to dry him off, she accidentally brushed against his tail too hard.
“Meyaa!”
“What’s the matter?”
“There’s a wound there; please be gentle.”
“Oh, sorry about that,” Liu Mengqi said, spotting the streaks of blood on his tail. She gave it a gentle rub, trying to soothe him.
“It’s alright. But I really need to see Old Man Liu. I’m not feeling great.”
Pushing back the tidal wave of sleepiness, Lin Feng gave himself a quick wake-up slap. Had it not been for Liu Mengqi’s sudden move earlier, he would’ve probably been snoozing already.
Quick to act, Liu Mengqi swiftly ushered Lin Feng into Old Man Liu’s main hall. “Mr. Liu, Lin Feng has something urgent to discuss,” she announced.
But as she tried to plop him down, Lin Feng, in an inexplicable move, slapped himself again. The room was instantly buzzing with curious whispers.
“What’s going on, Lin Feng? You alright?” someone asked.
Seeing Lin Feng’s groggy state, the school doctor approached to assess him. “Looks like a mild fever,” she observed, whipping out some fever-relief pills. Liu Mengqi’s eyes went strangely wide, clearly recognizing the medicine.
He shot Liu Mengqi a baffled look before pivoting towards Old Man Liu to spill the details.
“So, about what went down earlier…” Lin Feng recounted his latest escapades. Exhausted, he reclined and conked out, the remnants of his self-administered slaps still fresh on his face.
Those in the room shared glances, watching the slumbering Lin Feng.
“Lin Feng’s always full of surprises, huh? But can someone really communicate with spiders?” The doctor pondered, nervously fidgeting with the medication in her pocket.
“Would he really make that up? Looks like he’s got a fever, maybe heat exhaustion. And yeah, fresh clothes sound like a solid plan,” Liu Mengqi suggested. She smirked slyly, her mind wandering to a certain memory involving her backside. After all, revenge is a dish best served cold.
“Right, let’s get him back,” another person agreed.
As they prepared to move Lin Feng, another voice chimed in, “I can call Liu Tao to help. It might be easier since you two are women.”
“We can handle it, Mr. Liu,” Liu Mengqi replied, her smile unwavering, as she and her companion started dragging the deeply asleep Lin Feng.
Bewildered, Master Liu and the principal exchanged glances.
“The energy of youth,” the principal remarked with a chuckle.
“True. They’re still so enthralled by romance. Mengqi probably wants to be the first face Lin Feng sees when he wakes up,” speculated Master Liu, pouring himself some tea and settling by the fireplace.
Outside, the two women comically dragged Lin Feng towards Liu Mengqi’s dorm.
And yes, Liu Mengqi was genuinely looking forward to seeing Lin Feng’s reaction when he woke. Master Liu’s observation couldn’t have been more accurate.
