“You’re a monster! How could you ruthlessly kill one of our own? What did we ever do to deserve such a brutal act from you?”

“Enough talk! Let’s finish her off. She dared to kill our brother,” the two gangsters yelled furiously at Lin Feng.

Lin Feng, watching the duo by the tank readying their weapons, realized in horror, “This is a terrible misunderstanding.”

But how did the gang know he had taken one of their own?

Amidst the slow crawl of time, Lin Feng pondered for a brief moment.

Then it struck him – surveillance cameras!

The city’s power was still on; he had overlooked this crucial detail.

With no time to waste, Lin Feng swiftly scooped up the bewildered Li Ying and dove into the bus, dragging her down to the floor with him.

Just as they huddled down, a barrage of bullets rained down from the gangsters, riddling the bus with bullet holes.

Lin Feng grunted as a stray bullet ricocheted inside the bus, nicking him.

“Lin Feng!”

Pressing Li Ying’s head down, he signaled her to stay put.

“Old Eight, hit them with the big one. Load up.”

“Got it.”

A shell, accompanied by a thunderous boom, rocketed towards their bus. The explosion shattered the bus into pieces amidst a billowing cloud of smoke, sending the surrounding zombies flying like droplets of water, creating a small circle free of the undead.

“Sweet vengeance, brother, I’ve avenged you!” Old Eight cackled, slapping his companion’s shoulder as they gazed at the charred remains of their targets.

“Brother, let’s go. The boss is waiting for more gold,” one remarked nonchalantly, picking off zombies that approached their tank before retreating inside.

“Alright, let’s go.”

With their conversation over, the tank slowly trundled away, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

— Change of Scene —

“Anna, what brings you here? Shouldn’t you be at the hotel?” Hao Jian looked perplexedly at Anna as she emerged from a severely damaged car.

“Where’s Lily?”

“Don’t tell me you traveled all this way just to find Lin Feng. And I’m intrigued about how you managed to come here,” Hao Jian remarked, eyeing the car, now missing its hood and two doors. He turned back to Anna, unscathed, with a puzzled expression.

“All minor details. Driving is a piece of cake for me. But you’re avoiding my question, you sly fox!”

Anna patted the dilapidated car, which further disintegrated with a sorrowful creak. She then brushed back her shimmering blonde hair, concealing her awkwardness.

“Lin Feng left yesterday. He said he wouldn’t be back for two days.”

“He left? Alone?” Anna asked, surprised.

“Yes, he went to the museum to inspect an airplane and to figure out how to bring it back. We need that plane for our departure.”

“Oh, really!” Anna uttered, about to reseat herself in the wrecked car.

“Hey, that car’s beyond repair.”

“Says who? I have faith in it.” Anna tugged at the door handle, which, along with the door, fell off, leaving her astonished.

“How about I get you a new one? A war vehicle.”

“A war vehicle?” Anna’s interest piqued, she looked up at Hao Jian, who wore a proud grin.

“Exactly. I’ve named it the ‘Apocalypse Mouse.’ Initially designed for Lin Feng, but seeing as you’re in need of a ride…”

Snap.

Anna briskly snatched the keys from Hao Jian’s hand.

“Where’s the car?”

“Uh, it’s in the back parking lot,” Hao Jian replied, scratching his head and smiling, pointing towards the rear of the repair shop.

“Thanks,” Anna said, clutching the keys and heading toward the back parking lot.
