“Junior, have you ever heard the tale behind this Duck Duck Hotpot?” Hao Jian began, a glint of mischief in his eyes.
Lin Feng swiftly interjected, “Save it for later.” He was starting to realize, perhaps, just perhaps, that Hao Jian wasn’t as stoic as he made him out tobe. But rather, he was quite a chatterbox from the start. Still, why was it always him?
Liu Tao was also next to him, staring all starry-eyed at him, too. So why not him? Everyone loves a muscly junior brother, right? That boy was probably misled into thinking Hao Jian was somehow a dependable senior , and now he’s just a fan of him. Honestly, it was astonishing how Hao Jian’s seemingly inconsequential stories could command such reverence.
On his part, Hao Jian seemed as exasperated as Lin Feng, probably annoyed that his starry-eyed junior was getting in the way of his alone time with his favorite junior.
“Anyway, we can talk when those zombies are sorted out.” (TL: The raws are a little off here.)
Lin Feng sighed at the two boys, before directing his attention back to their surroundings and swiftly incapacitating a zombie donned in a service uniform. The hall was dotted with similar figures, their arrangement eerily systematic like a cheer squad line-up. He even spotted one of them with a strangely discolored hand. Putting two and two together, that zombie was probably a chef of some sorts, and when the zombification struck, he ended up cooking his own hand in a gruesome stew.
Now, his hand was a disgusting mix of zombie flesh, and flesh that was somehow even more dead than usual. Still, where there was cooking, there had to be a fire source and a gas source.
“There might be some gas cylinders scattered about, be careful.”
The situation, which had appeared straightforward, was proving more intricate. Though their melee weapons eliminated the risk of explosions, remaining vigilant was crucial.
In a corner, a zombie trapped in a cumbersome mascot costume tried desperately to reach out, its intentions clear. However, its oversized garb limited its movement, causing its hungry cries to be stifled, adding to the eerie ambiance.
Observing a zombie clad in a mascot costume, its trousers haphazardly pulled down to reveal a glaring bite mark, Lin Feng couldn’t help but feel a blend of humor and frustration. Swiftly, he knocked it to the ground. The design of the mascot outfit protected the creature’s head, making it difficult to deliver a direct blow. Considering these uniquely armored zombies, Lin Feng pondered on addressing them later; they might even be useful training fodder for the more skittish members of the group.
“Crab House, cleared out!”
“Lobster Lounge, secured!”
“Fish 2 Meet You, no threats!”
“Too Delicious Chicken, all safe!”
Checking his watch, it dawned on Lin Feng that it was close to 7 PM. The vastness of the mall, coupled with the myriad of eateries lining its corridors, had consumed much of their day. With the day’s relentless efforts, his hunger pangs were becoming more pronounced.
“Everyone, make your way up using the fire escape,” he directed, signaling to Song Zhe and the others who had meticulously neutralized the ground floor.
He had a concrete plan in mind for the principal’s stronghold. The first floor wouldn’t be for habitation. Instead, he would blockade it such that only a human would be smart enough to climb over the barricades. Naturally, the clean-up had to be thorough. Once that was done, they could consider the surroundings.
“Lin Feng, have a look at this!” Liu Mengqi eagerly showcased a shimmering item in her hand.
“Just a diamond ring?” Lin Feng remarked, his interest barely piqued. It wasn’t as if he could sate his hunger with it.
“It’s the trendiest design of the year,” she retorted with a hint of pride.
“Okay?”
“Let me try it on you.” Before he could react, Liu Mengqi, in her spirited fashion, slid the ring onto Lin Feng’s middle finger, her gaze fleetingly meeting Yan Aoxue’s, who had recently arrived.
