“Knock, knock, knock!”

The girl reached out and tapped on the door of the old-fashioned residence in front of her. Jason’s house didn’t have any doorbells or the like, so she could only resort to this method to get someone to answer.

After knocking on the door for almost two minutes, there was still no response. Nancy specially pressed her ear against the door to listen, but there was no sound of anyone approaching from the other side.

“No one?” Nancy furrowed her brow, considering whether to try picking the lock herself.

“Nancy, you step back and let me try.” At this moment, Su Xiaoyu patted Nancy’s shoulder, gesturing for her to move aside. He then stepped forward and placed a blue talisman on the door frame before closing his eyes.

After a moment, Su Xiaoyu opened his eyes again, a glint of insight flashing through them.

“There are people inside, a total of three.”

After saying this, Su Xiaoyu stepped forward and knocked on the residence door with more force than Nancy had used earlier.

This time, there was finally a response. After about half a minute, the sound of the door opening came from the other side.

“Who’s there?”

The door opened, accompanied by a young man’s lazy voice tinged with impatience, causing Nancy and Su Xiaoyu to exchange glances.

Before coming, Nancy had already briefed Su Xiaoyu. This young man was obviously Jason’s son, Brian, also known as Sherry’s younger brother.

“Yo! A beauty!” Brian had initially looked drowsy, but upon seeing the girl’s appearance, his eyes instantly lit up.

It could be said that apart from his despicable sister, Brian had never seen a woman who could compare to the girl in front of him. There was no denying that Nancy’s natural beauty was indeed exceptional.

“Hello, we are classmates of Sherry. We heard she was sick today, so we came to visit.”

“Hmm?” Brian initially felt some annoyance at Su Xiaoyu blocking his view of the girl, but upon hearing Su Xiaoyu’s introduction, Nancy noticed a trace of wariness flash through Brian’s roguish eyes, and the lustful intent in his gaze immediately diminished.

Brian glanced up and down at Nancy and Su Xiaoyu before realizing that the two before him were wearing Roland High School uniforms.

“Sherry isn’t here.” Brian’s eyes narrowed as he prepared to close the door, but Nancy acted faster. She quickly wedged her hand against the door, a polite smile on her face. “We also brought the school’s assigned homework for Sherry. If she’s not here, we can wait for her to return.”

“…” Brian’s expression fluctuated, but then he glanced at the beautiful girl before him, suddenly grinned, and stepped aside, opening the door wider.

“Then please come in.”

“……” Nancy suppressed her smile, exchanged a glance with Su Xiaoyu, and entered the room one after the other, brushing past Brian.

Upon entering, they found themselves in a dimly lit corridor. Nancy and Su Xiaoyu had initially planned to change their shoes, but they discovered that Jason’s house didn’t have the usual facilities. They could only politely rub their shoes on the carpet by the door before entering the living room.

The small living room was occupied by a heavily made-up middle-aged woman. Upon hearing the commotion at the door, she turned her head to look and was momentarily surprised to see Nancy and the others. Then, very uncharacteristically, she stood up directly.

“Mom, it’s sister’s classmates. Let them sit.” Brian said with a cold smirk. Lisa seemed to understand something without a word, and without saying anything, she went upstairs.

“You two, please have a seat. I’ll go upstairs and call my dad down. After all, guests need to be properly received.” Brian turned back to Su Xiaoyu and Nancy, smiling.

Following that, without waiting for Nancy and Su Xiaoyu’s reaction, Brian also went upstairs.

“What’s wrong? Did you notice anything?” When only Su Xiaoyu and Nancy remained on the first floor, Su Xiaoyu slowly asked the girl beside him.

“Brian, and also Sherry’s mother, their complexion doesn’t look good. It’s pale yellow, with certain areas unusually sunken. These are symptoms of long-term use of psychiatric drugs,” Nancy observed the living room discreetly and whispered.

“Drug abuse, as you mentioned to me before.” Su Xiaoyu nodded, then affixed several talismans to various places in the living room, such as the refrigerator, sofa, and coffee table.

“What are you doing?” Nancy curiously glanced at those talismans, which magically became invisible after being affixed.

“As you said, this family is not simple. I’m preparing for any potential risks,” Su Xiaoyu replied, handing another talisman to Nancy.

Pushing open the study door, Brian saw Jason already holding a gun.

Seeing his relaxed son, Jason frowned slightly. He returned the handgun to the drawer compartment and looked at Brian, speaking in a solemn tone:

“What’s the situation? Who are the visitors?”

Because Jason had a history of drug abuse, his social connections weren’t good. People who could visit directly were either enemies or “clients,” so Jason was quite nervous.

“It’s the classmates of Sherry, that despicable girl. She didn’t go to school today, and two people came to visit,” Brian said, sitting next to Jason.

“I’ve already given her sick leave. What’s going on?” Jason frowned slightly.

“Dad, you know, these pampered students sometimes just like to have wild thoughts,” Brian said with a smile.

“What do you mean? Are these two people strange?” Jason asked, puzzled.

“Dad, one of these two people is a remarkable girl, no less than Sherry,” Brian smirked, his face displaying obvious desire.

“No less than her?” Jason first questioned in astonishment, then answered himself, “That’s right. In the environment of Roland High School, every girl is outstanding.”

“So, what’s your plan?” Jason squinted slightly. Normally, he and Brian had engaged in many shady activities. They had exploited several women in the Philo District, and because of this, the father and son had two lives on their hands. So, it wasn’t surprising that Jason was curious about his son’s plans.

“Dad, think about it. Since we’ve already sent such a big gift to Brother Shang, if we send another gift of similar caliber, our benefits will surely increase!” Brian grinned broadly, his eyes revealing unabashed greed.

“But… these are students from Roland High School. We can pressure Sherry to sign a contract, but these delicate students…” Jason’s face showed some worry.

“Dad, haven’t you forgotten? Brother Shang promised to send us to Basileus after this job is done. It’s paradise there for us. So, we can be a bit more aggressive,” Brian reminded his father.

“Moreover, in Basileus, it’s a whole different world. The authorities here can’t reach there. When the time comes, we can establish some connections. Are we afraid of the police here?”

“You’re right…” Jason nodded. Brian’s last sentence truly struck a chord with him.

“Go to the basement and get the drugs I obtained last time. They were originally meant for that seductive fox at the cake shop, but this time… for precaution’s sake, we’ll need drugs of a higher level.”¹
