The two of them kept running in the pitch-black forest.

More accurately speaking, Kirsten was running agilely between the treetops.

The Melgash below kept chasing after them with blood-red eyes fully focused on the two of them. Naturally, they were incredibly angry at the two who had killed their boss, the Hell Melgash.

It would have been easier if it was only the Melgash after them. However, it wasn’t only the B rank Melgash who were chasing after them. A large amount of green-skinned goblins were following them as well.

However, the goblins were just relatively weaker B rank magical beasts.

“For real? Why haven’t I ever seen these before during the day…?”

Mirabelle was really stunned since she had never seen goblins before during the day.

“Those are goblins. They probably don’t come out during the day since they’re nocturnal. It seems that they only come out at night…”

Kirsten kept explaining to Mirabelle as she jumped between the trees.

“I know such a thing already…”

Mirabelle really wanted to say that she knew far more about these magical beasts than Kirsten did. However, she never expected that the goblins on this island were nocturnal.

Kirsten kept jumping between branches while dodging the goblins’ arrows.

“Be careful. Just like us, they’ve coated their arrows with paralysis poison, so we can’t afford to let the arrows even scratch us.”
“It’s fine. I’m confident that I can dodge all the arrows…”

Just as Kirsten said this, several hundred arrows simultaneously shot towards both of them.

However, Kirsten managed to precisely dodge every single arrow without fail.

Why was she able to dodge the arrows with such great precision?

Mirabelle decided to use her analysis ability to check Kirsten’s stats.

Name: Kirsten Raphael.
Sex: Female.
Level: 162.
HP: 16200/16200.
MP: 6000/12000.
Fixed skill: Dodge (as long as MP isn’t zero, you can dodge every single projectile attack.)

“Is that so? A personal skill?”

Mirabelle’s expression said that she understood after she looked at Kirsten’s skill.

“What? A personal skillet? What’s that? Something to eat?”
“Nothing, I was just talking to myself. By the way, I have a way to get rid of these magical beasts…”
“What way?”
“I’ll tell you once you get to that place in front…”

Although Kirsten was really curious, she still listened to Mirabelle and jumped towards the direction the latter pointed at, even though she knew that this wasn’t the way towards their home.

“Now!”

Mirabelle suddenly brought out an explosive arrow, injected her mana into it, and shot it out.

The explosive arrow hit the roots of a large tree and produced a violent explosion.

The explosion didn’t just affect the goblins. The tree’s roots had exploded, so the entire tree fell over and crushed many Melgashes and goblins to death.

“Nice, beautifully done. This way, they’ll have to take a longer path since the cliffs are blocking their way. They’ll have to go around a really long way before they can get around this fallen tree.”
“I see. You were planning for the fact that this place is narrow with cliffs on both sides…”
“Why else would I lure you over here?”
“Ahh! So you had always been pointing at the wrong direction…”

Only then did Kirsten notice that she hadn’t been bad with directions at all. It was that Kirsten had obediently followed Mirabelle’s words in coming here because Mirabelle had said to.

“Well, let’s hurry home now. I’ll point out the right way to you…”

Mirabelle pointed towards the front as she talked to Kirsten.

“This path is the path that will take us home the fastest…”
“Could it be another wrong way on purpose?”

Kirsten immediately gave a suspicious sidelong glance at the girl she was carrying on her back.

“Sheesh, I won’t point at the wrong path every time to you. Do you not trust me?”
“This is the result of me trusting you. You made me go the wrong way…”
“D… don’t say that, I wasn’t leading you down the wrong way intentionally. This was the only way to get rid of the magical beasts chasing after us. Otherwise, once we returned to that cave, not only would we be trapped inside, the magical beasts would also find the location of our home. Do you understand what the consequences would be then!?”

Mirabelle suddenly changed her tone to be really serious.

“Well, you’re right, I suppose I’ll trust you on at least that…”
“By the way, it seems that our home isn’t really complete yet. If we don’t have a barrier powered by elven ore, flying magical beasts will easily be able to go to our home…”
“Flying magical beasts? Are you talking about Deepvalley Giant Eagles?”

Kirsten asked for Mirabelle’s confirmation. Mirabelle nodded unhesitatingly.

“That’s the only magical beast capable of such large-scale flight on this island…”
“I see…”
“Still, it’s so troublesome that we don’t have any elven ore…”

Kirsten lowered her head with an expression of deep thought. She then heavily sighed.

“I understand. I just have to take it out and give it to you, right?”
“Take it out? What are you referring to?”
“Elven ore. My father was a miner. He was in charge of elven mining operations on the border. Before he died, he gave me a piece of elven ore that was as large as my hand…”
“What did you say!? Did you not give it to the higher-ups?”

Mirabelle was really astonished. She never thought that Kirsten’s father would secretly hide away a piece of elven ore.

“Ah, that’s because it’s an inheritance from my father. Additionally, my father told me to hide it well. We handed over all the other elven ore that we were supposed to. Originally, I had no intention of using this piece of elven ore, but when I saw how serious the things you talked about were, I changed my mind on bringing it out…”
“Is this really alright? Giving me something so precious to use…”
“It’s fine. If my father knew that I used the elven ore to protect the person I like the most, he would definitely be happy as well…”

Kirsten spoke in a confident tone. At the same time, she raised her head to look at the sky, as if she was looking at her parents up in heaven.

“Thank you, Kirsten. Leave the barrier to me. I’m really skilled at such things. I think I can finish it really quickly when I return…”

Mirabelle laid herself down on Kirsten’s back as her soft water-blue hair kept flowing in the wind.

Kirsten’s mouth arched upwards into a smile as she sensed Mirabelle’s head against her body.

‘Father, Mother, your daughter has obtained happiness now. I’m truly fortunate to be together with this child.’

Kirsten and Mirabelle soon returned to their home on the tall mountain. Right when they returned to the mountaintop, Kirsten went inside to look through her luggage. She had properly organized what her parents left behind for her in the luggage before coming here.

Meanwhile, Mirabelle was outside drawing something on the ground with a tree branch. She drew three small pentagrams which formed a large triangle in the soft dirt. She then stood right at the center of the triangle.

Mirabelle injected her mana into the large triangular magic formation and activated it.

‘Okay, everything is ready now.’

Mirabelle only needed Kirsten’s elven ore. If it really was the size of her hand and completely unused, then it wouldn’t be a problem to maintain a barrier for one or even two years.

But, would the two of them still be able to stay here close to the elven town for one to two years?

The answer was obviously no. The two of them wouldn’t possibly stay for so long.

“Mirabelle, I brought it!”

Kirsten swiftly ran out to Mirabelle’s side after she found the magic ore.

“Ohh…”

Mirabelle felt the familiar sensation of elven ore as she looked at its faint green glow.

She had previously been a princess who always had three or four pieces of elven ore. However, she hadn’t expected that the slave merchant who captured her would steal away all of her elven ore.

Mirabelle felt really angry just remembering this incident.

Why hadn’t she previously made Heather capture that slave merchant for her back when she was in captivity? At the very least, she could vent on the slave merchant. Perhaps she hadn’t been in a state of mind to care about such things back then. She had only been thinking about how to escape from Heather’s side, so she hadn’t been able to enjoy the treatment that she should have received.

“How is it? Is it real?”
“Ah, it’s just like elven ore that was recently unearthed. It’s filled with magic power…”
“That’s great…”
“Rather than that, Kirsten, do you want to try it? This… barrier…”

Mirabelle pointed with her shoe at the magic formation on the ground. Her mouth then arched upwards in a mysterious smile.

“Of course, so I can properly know my… um, just how amazing my Mirabelle is. But, how are we going to test it?”

When Kirsten mentioned Mirabelle, her face became as bright red as an apple. Kirsten then no longer dared to look directly into Mirabelle’s eyes.

“…”

After hearing her say that, Mirabelle also blankly looked at Kirsten.

‘Have I really started liking her?’

Mirabelle didn’t know. She only felt really warm and happy during these days together with Kirsten. Unlike with Heather, who had an overwhelming desire for possessing someone, Mirabelle didn’t feel suppressed or uncomfortable with Kirsten.

“Mirabelle? Mirabelle?”
“Eh?”
“How should I test the barrier?”
“You only need to toss a random little rock. You can throw it in any direction…”

Mirabelle regained her senses and told Kirsten what to do.

Kirsten randomly picked up a small stone from the ground and threw it up into midair.

The stone didn’t fly very far before an electric beam stopped it in midair. A powerful electric current then passed through and vaporized the rock.

“So… so incredible…”
“This barrier is all around where we live in a spherical formation. No matter if it’s from the inside going out, or from the outside going in, the barrier will block everything. It can act as both absolute defense and offense…”
“It can even cover such a large area?”
“Ah… for convenience’s sake, I drew it over a very large area…”
“Then I’ll try throwing a stone in that direction. Is that alright?”
“Of course that’s alright. Just don’t get too close to the border, because there’s the danger that you’ll fall down.”

After Kirsten received Mirabelle’s approval, she picked up another rock from the ground. Kirsten then ran towards the outer portion of the barrier alongside a large patch of land.

Luckily, Mirabelle had confirmed the area in that direction before, so it was really safe.

This island was a bit larger than the town Kirsten lived in before, so running all the way to the other side would take some effort.

Mirabelle waited for quite a long while before she heard the sound of a rock smashing into the barrier. This was followed by the sound of the rock being easily evaporated by the barrier’s electricity.

Kirsten then ran right over to Mirabelle.

“Mirabelle, you’re so amazing. The barrier actually affects such an incredibly large area…”
“Yeah, when I placed the barrier, I did it completely according to the map in my mind, so there should be no problems with the height. It also has a really long range. I did it so that our daily life wouldn’t be affected. Also, I didn’t cover the secret cave passage with the barrier, so it won’t affect us from coming and going…”
