“———… ————————!”
“—…Huh? What’s that noise?”

I woke up and found myself wrapped in Ibuki’s scent. As I blinked my eyes open, I realized I was in her bedroom, a place I’d only been a handful of times.

“Why am I in Ibuki’s bed?”
“———… —… ———!”

Confused, I slowly crawled out of bed. I could hear Ibuki talking in the next room, though I couldn’t make out exactly what she was saying. But I definitely heard my name in there somewhere.

Was she calling me for breakfast? I checked the time—6:30 a.m. That was early for Ibuki, but I guess since I didn’t make her anything last night, she probably woke up hungry.

“Wait, why didn’t I make her a snack last night?”

I muttered to myself and started remembering bits of last night. I’d told Ibuki I was thinking of getting a boyfriend, and out of nowhere… she hugged me.

“——!!”

My face went beet red, and I quickly covered it with my hands. Even though no one else was in the room, the memory was enough to make me want to hide.

What was going through her mind when she did that? I tried to figure it out, but nothing made sense.

“Ugh, this is pointless… I’ll just make her breakfast.”

Ibuki’s always been kind of quirky. She’d do random things for no reason, and it was just her being her. I guess this was just another one of those moments. Still, it’d be nice if she gave me a heads-up before doing stuff like that. If she had, maybe I wouldn’t have been caught off guard and faint.

“Ibuki, you dummy…”

She didn’t even know how I felt, but still—pulling something like that on me out of the blue? I didn’t know when she became such a tease. I always thought I knew her pretty well, but apparently, there were parts of her I didn’t get.

“Whatever.”

Grumbling under my breath, I walked into the kitchen. I hadn’t planned on staying over, so the fridge was pretty empty except for the stuff I’d prepped for her. Most of it was heavy stuff, though, and my groggy self wasn’t in the mood for that.

“Mm… maybe I can whip up some omurice?”

I’ve got rice, eggs, and a bit of leftover stuff I saved from last night. It might not be enough to fill Ibuki’s bottomless stomach, but it should work for a reasonable breakfast for the two of us.

I didn’t usually eat a proper breakfast when I was alone, but staying over at Ibuki’s made me feel like I was actually eating healthy for once.

“Oh, you’re awake, Yukino?”
“U-uh, good morning, Ibuki.”

Had the call she was on finished? Ibuki came out of her room, and even though I’ve seen her face a million times, it still made me remember last night, and suddenly I felt super awkward. I quickly looked away.

“I made omurice for breakfast. You like it, right?”
“Yeah, just what I love.”
“!!”

She was talking about the omurice, but my simpleton brain immediately turned it into a compliment about me, and I couldn’t help but feel all warm and fuzzy.

“By the way…”
“Hm?”
“Yukino, did you gain weight?”
“Huh?”

I was still basking in my happy thoughts when she dropped that bomb on me.

“Wait, what? Who’s gaining weight? What are you talking about?”
“Woah there. I mean, when I carried you to bed last night, you felt a bit heavier, and your belly was kinda squishy. Also, your chest seemed a bit bigger, so I thought you might’ve gained some weight.”
“Huh?! I haven’t gained weight. It’s not like I’ve been too busy and neglected my eating habits and my waist has become a headache, not at all! Don’t be silly, Ibuki!”

Seriously, how did she turn into such a tactless person? Sure, I couldn’t fit into some of the skirts I used to wear, and my arms were a bit squishier now, but… wait, my chest?

“Wait, what do you mean my chest got bigger?”
“Huh? Was I imagining it? But when I, you know, squeezed it, it felt a little bigger.”
“Y-Y-Y-You squeezed it?!”
“Yeah.”
“Whaaat?!”

Ibuki just casually admitted it, like it’s no big deal. When did she ever get to touch my pecs? No one’s ever touched it before!

“I do it sometimes when you’re asleep. It’s just the right size for my palm.”
“R-Right size… When… when did this even start?!”

I didn’t raise her like this. Ibuki’s parents were always busy, so I’d been the one looking after her. I practically raised her, but somehow she turned into someone who touched her childhood friend’s chest while she was asleep?!

“The first time I did it was probably in the first year of middle school? It was when my chest started growing and I got curious and checked your chest, but it was still flat as a board. It was funny as hell.”
“I’ll punch you. I can, right? You’re totally asking for it. There’s nothing weird about being flat in middle school!”
“But didn’t yours just barely start growing in the winter of the second year of high school? They say boobs grow when you fondle them, but despite all my hard work they’re still only palm-size… Boohoo.”

Ibuki pretended to cry like some bad actress from the past, wiping her eyes.

“I-bu-ki? What did you say was palm-sized?”
“Your boobs. Since I have small hands, they’re about palm-sized for me, but if a guy touched them, he’d probably think there’s nothing there.”

Honestly, Ibuki wasn’t wrong. With her tiny hands, even my modest chest would probably fit in her palms perfectly. But if it were a regular guy, it’s a whole different story. Even if they touched them, they probably wouldn’t feel anything satisfying.

“Hmm?”

It seemed like Ibuki was picturing my sad reality, pressing her own chest and tilting her head. It was cute, but even if she did that, I wasn’t going to forgive her this time.

“Hehehe. Ibuki-chan, didn’t I teach you the saying ‘good fences make good neighbors’?”
“Wait, Yukino. My chest feels all hazy and weird.”
“I don’t want to hear excuses! Anyone who messes with someone else’s insecurities deserves divine punishment! Get ready!”

We’d been together for almost 20 years now. It was usually not Ibuki’s airheaded comments that started a fight, but me getting mad out of nowhere. And every time, I’d always target her weak spots.

“Wha-what are you planning to do?”
“Tonight’s dinner will only be green foods. And I’m barely cooking them at all.”
“S-Spare me!”

Ibuki hit my last nerve, and dinner that night ended up being a veggie-packed feast that even vegans would be surprised by. And of course, no leftovers allowed.
