In the middle of the polluted stream stood a crumbling, broken bridge.

Creeeak—

The thick, murky current flowed below, slapping against both banks. The bridge seemed to have reached the end of its life; with a sharp creak, the fracture line widened.

Bang!

A broken section gave way and dropped into the black, oil-like water below, swallowed instantly as white bubbles rose to the surface.

“…” Zane’s mouth twitched. Are we supposed to jump across? Judging by the width of the stream—just over three meters—it did seem possible.

As he pondered, someone had already made the leap. Endless Sea strode forward, pushed off the ground, and sprang cleanly across the stream. Standing on the other side, he waved and shouted, “Hurry up, you guys!”

Did that guy really just…

But he didn’t have long to feel proud—because right then, a group of ghouls appeared ahead. As if they had caught the scent of the living, more than ten ghouls bared their fangs and came charging in a frenzy.

“Damn it—don’t come this way!” Endless Sea’s face turned pale.

As they drew closer, Zane was able to inspect the ghouls’ stats.

“Sea, get back here!” Zane shouted urgently. These stats were no joke—Level 22 Epic-grade ghouls! Their attack even surpassed that of Bioraptors, and with level suppression factored in, the incoming damage boost would be huge. There was no way Endless Sea could withstand that!

“Guardian Shield!” A silver-white shield manifested as a three-meter-tall phantom barrier in front of Endless Sea, reducing incoming damage by 25%.

The ghouls moved fast—perhaps they hadn’t seen living beings in a long time. A faint red glow began to spread across their bodies, likely the Frenzy effect.

Slash!

The first ghoul struck the shield with its claw, triggering a crimson damage number.

But that wasn’t all—it also triggered the Rend effect.

Endless Sea was now in a bleeding state!

Even with Guardian Shield reducing incoming damage, Endless Sea’s health was nearly wiped out in an instant. The ghouls weren’t just powerful—they also had an incredibly high critical rate. There was no way to tank them head-on!

He leapt backward, jumping back across the stream.

He didn’t land properly and fell backward, but luckily Shiu grabbed his arm. Otherwise, he would’ve been sent back to town in shame before the grinding even started.

“These monsters…” he muttered with lingering fear.

On the far bank, the ghouls crowded restlessly at the edge after seeing their ‘prey’ leap away. They stayed where they were, panting eagerly, clearly hoping someone would come back to them.

There was a seven-level gap, so even magic attacks couldn’t significantly break through their defenses.

The ghoul in front snarled furiously, but there was nothing it could do. Drool dripped from its hideous maw—it looked utterly repulsive.

“Looks like… we can farm them from here?” Zane said, suddenly excited. If the ghouls couldn’t cross the stream, it meant they could be attacked safely from range!

Before long, the frontmost ghoul was taken down by a Mana Surge. It dissolved into a nice chunk of EXP and a few gold coins. But the rest of the monsters began to stir. Without hesitation, the starving ghouls began devouring their fallen companion’s corpse!

Watching them feast ravenously, YoyoPink turned away, unable to stomach the sight. Lordsey, however, looked completely unbothered, as if he’d seen it a hundred times.

“Conti—” Before he could finish, the ghouls suddenly ran off along the stream. A minute later, they had completely disappeared from sight.

“Ahem… Sea, maybe you could…” Zane looked at him with a face that clearly said we’re counting on you.

Endless Sea shuddered. He was about to refuse instinctively, but then remembered the two girls were watching—he couldn’t lose face now. Taking a deep breath, he said, “Alright! I’ll go for it!”

He took a Leap of Faith and expertly jumped across the stream again.

…Why is it so quiet? Something felt off. Maybe I should—

“Crap!” He hadn’t realized it before, but the moment he looked—he was shocked. That same group of ghouls had circled around and emerged from the opposite bank! There’s a path connecting to the other side!?

Zane didn’t have time to worry about hiding his Shapeshift ability anymore—there were nine ghouls, charging under Frenzy, even faster than sprinting Gray Wolves!

With a flash of white light, Zane transformed into Elna. YoyoPink and Shiu didn’t even have time to be surprised—the enemy was already upon them!

The ghouls’ speed dropped sharply, pale blue frost forming across their bodies.

Controlling Starry’s avatar, he stepped forward and shouted, “Icy Moon Slash!”

They were lucky—the ghoul at the front was frozen solid! But the ones in the back veered around the ice block and continued their charge.

Autumn Moon Sword swept out in a wide arc, while a surge of energy gathered in the palm—Autumn Strike!

Drawing the aggro of another ghoul, Starry darted to the right.

Seven remained.

The ground turned soft and wet, transforming into a swamp. But the ghouls’ skinny, wiry bodies didn’t sink quickly—three of them managed to charge right through!

“Damn it!” the little loli cursed.

One more was ensnared. Two ghouls remained, coming at her from the left and right.

There’s no more time—they are already in melee range. Zane quickly stepped in front. There was no way a Summoner or Mage could tank even for a few seconds!

A pale-white skeletal barrier formed in front of Zane.

Shhk!

The two ghouls showed no mercy. Their claws tore through the phantom shield and raked across Zane’s Decayed Bone Armor, bringing up two terrifying damage numbers.

Both attacks were critical hits! And the Rend effect could stack—Zane’s HP bar dropped by a sixth in an instant.

Just then, a bomb dropped from the sky, landing between the two ghouls. Zane froze for a moment before suddenly recognizing that familiar projectile—he immediately pulled back.

Boom!!!

The two monsters were blown back on impact. The ghoul on the left was even blasted into the stream, swallowed by the current. It struggled briefly, but soon fell still, as a series of black damage numbers rose from its body.

It had been corroded to death by the stream itself! Good thing they hadn’t attempted to cross it lightly… Falling in there—just the thought of it was terrifying.

Lordsey engaged the ghoul on the right. Both were agility-based creatures, so Lordsey couldn’t dominate the fight as easily as he had against players.

Lordsey slipped for a moment and took a slash to the chest—blood burst forth. The Rend effect had been triggered!

The pain lit a fire in Lordsey’s chest. He hadn’t expected such a low-tier undead creature to actually wound him. He retaliated with a Heavy Strike!

…

A tight barrage of stones rained down, each hit registering damage. Within seconds, it was brought down. As expected from a boss-tier summon, just one coordinated assault was enough to eliminate two ghouls effortlessly.

Meanwhile, Starry finished off the one she had pulled earlier. That left six ghouls still standing—just now recovering from crowd control!
