As expected, it was possible to run out of range before the attack was launched, as long as one reacted quickly enough.

Shing!

A golden light flashed as Starry leveled up.

Strength and Dexterity could both increase attack power. Before changing classes, these two stats had a 1:1 effect on attack power, but after the class transition, the growth rate would depend on the chosen class.

Intelligence, on the other hand, wouldn’t matter until transitioning into a magic-based class.

In the early game, investing in Dexterity provided greater offensive benefits. Each point of Dexterity not only added 0.2 to defense, but also improved movement speed and attack speed.

Thus, Zane allocated all of Starry’s attribute points to Dexterity.

The time it took Starry to kill a slime was reduced from six strikes to five. After killing another slime, Zane’s male character also returned to level 2.

Since most of the damage was dealt by Starry, Zane’s male character only received a small fraction of the experience. Even so, compared to other players, their leveling speed was still among the best.

Some of the other players in the area began to take notice.

How could they not? Killing a slime in nine hits (four from Zane, five from Starry) was impressive.

Starry’s Autumn Moon Sword clearly looked like a high-grade weapon. On top of that, the two of them were likely equipped with various makeshift gear to achieve such high damage output.

A few players from another group even began casually moving closer, their intentions unclear.

After Zane and Starry leveled up again, Zane allocated both characters’ attribute points to Dexterity.

Now, Starry only needed four hits to kill a slime, often managing to finish it off before Mucus Corrosion could even activate. Zane’s male character’s damage, meanwhile, was mostly for show—just enough to share some experience. He couldn’t neglect his male character entirely, after all.

By this point, they had collected 10 portions of Slime Mucus.

Zane noticed a group of players with the “Rainflower” guild prefix approaching.

“You should keep your distance. If you get caught in Mucus Corrosion, you’ll be in trouble,” Zane said, frowning.

“Ah, don’t worry! We’re from the Rainflower Guild, and just a small group of brothers ended up in this Beginner Village by random. I noticed how smooth and efficient your movements were while killing monsters—you’re clearly pros. If you’re not already in a guild, would you consider joining us?” asked Rainflower Drake, the player leading the group.

“Sorry, we’re not planning to join any guilds for now,” Zane replied firmly.

“No problem, no problem. I just wanted to invite some experts to play with us. If neither of you is planning to join a guild, I won’t push. But, could we team up for some leveling? We can help lure monsters, and the two of you can focus on taking them down. From our research, slimes have very low attack power. As long as they’re not reduced to half health to trigger their skill, it’s easy for one person to tank two or three slimes at a time. This method would greatly increase leveling efficiency for all of us. What do you think?”

It’s hard to refuse someone who’s being so polite, Zane thought. Besides, it was a mutually beneficial arrangement.

“Alright,” Zane nodded. He then added the five players to the party.

System Notifications:

Rainflower Drake has joined your party.

Rainflower Spark has joined your party.

Rainflower Frost has joined your party.

Rainflower Wave has joined your party.

Rainflower Jack has joined your party.

Every one of them was already level 4—a testament to their organization and efficiency. If not for Zane’s little “cheat,” he doubted he could keep up with them.

Starry, Zane, Rainflower Drake, and Rainflower Spark focused on dealing damage, while the other three players lured monsters, ensuring a steady stream of targets.

One round of focused attacks knocked off exactly 75 HP from a slime. As it curled up to prepare its attack, another round followed, finishing it off instantly.

“That’s incredible… Starry, how are you doing so much damage?” Rainflower Spark exclaimed in amazement.

“It’s nothing, just luck with weak point attacks,” Starry replied indifferently.

“……”

Who would believe that? Rainflower Spark thought to himself. What kind of god consistently lands a weak point? Besides, the damage font for weak points is blue, so her excuse was obviously a lie.

His eyes locked onto the Autumn Moon Sword, filled with curiosity and suspicion.

They continued grinding for 15 minutes. Because the slimes were level 4 monsters, the experience gain from level 4 to level 5 dropped significantly. However, Zane managed to catch up to level 4, while Starry became the first player to reach level 5.

Before they realized it, they had almost cleared out the entire slime spawn area.

The higher the level of the monsters, the longer their respawn time. It became evident that the respawn rate couldn’t keep up with Starry’s overwhelming damage output, leaving short periods where no monsters were available.

“This is the last batch of slimes. Once they’re done, we’ll have to wait for respawns,” Rainflower Wave said, bringing two slimes over.

Including the slimes lured by Rainflower Frost and Rainflower Jack, plus the ones they hadn’t yet killed, there were a total of nine slimes.

“After finishing these, we’ll head back to turn in our quests,” Zane said.

“Got it. We’ll keep grinding on our own,” Rainflower Drake replied cheerfully.

The Rainflower team had also reached level 5. Judging by their damage output, they seemed to have allocated all their attribute points to Dexterity. Their attacks now dealt at least 20 damage per hit, though they still couldn’t compare to Starry.

Suddenly, Rainflower Jack turned around and hit one of the slimes. “I’m just sneaking in a bit of experience,” Rainflower Jack said with a grin.

Rainflower Wave and Rainflower Frost followed suit, attacking three slimes until their HP dropped to 87. One more hit would trigger their skill. Of course, they knew how the slime’s mechanics worked, so they simply switched targets and continued attacking.

Experience gain was tied to damage dealt. After spending so much effort luring monsters, it made sense for them to sneak in some extra experience.

Zane understood their reasoning but felt that something wasn’t right.

As Starry dealt with the three slimes near her, Zane noticed that Starry’s strikes now dealt 60+ damage per hit. At level 5, the suppression effect on lower-level monsters added extra damage.

Then he realized something—the slimes being passed to him all had 80+ HP. A suspicion formed in his mind. Through Starry’s perspective, he noticed the subtle motion of their swords being drawn.

At that moment, it became painfully obvious. They were planning an ambush, likely targeting Autumn Moon Sword.

Zane and Starry simultaneously pulled out a portion of Slime Mucus from their inventories and threw it behind the Rainflower players before sprinting away.

Almost immediately, Rainflower Drake shouted, “Attack!”

Shing!

The five players attacked in unison, landing a series of damage numbers ranging from 15 to 25. The slimes, sensing the threat, activated Mucus Corrosion!

Time seemed to slow down. The Rainflower team received a notification that their party had been disbanded, leaving them stunned. As they turned to look, they saw Zane and Starry already two meters away.

No time to think—running is the only option now! Rainflower Drake tried to flee, but his foot landed in a puddle of slime, causing him to slip and fall face-first into the ground.

Rainflower Spark wasn’t much better, tumbling to the ground in an equally embarrassing fashion. Rainflower Frost, being Rainflower Drake’s younger sister and still a high schooler, was slower to react. She hesitated for a moment before finally running.

Squelch!

The sound effect of the skill echoed as the attacks landed.

The first wave of the explosion wiped out nearly half of their HP.

The second wave left them on the brink of death.

Before the third wave even hit, the Corrosion effect activated, dealing 10 damage per second. Rainflower Frost disintegrated into a flash of white light and disappeared.

The third wave hit, and both Rainflower Drake and Rainflower Spark succumbed as well. Only Rainflower Jack and Rainflower Wave managed to escape the skill’s range.
