| Mysterious Necklace | |
|---|---|
| Grade | None |
| Required Level | None |
| Luck | +3 |
| Special Skills | Soul Transfer, Shapeshift |
| Traits | Cannot be dropped, cannot be traded. Evolvable |
| Description | None |
The evolution process wasn’t flashy or dramatic. The ruby embedded at the end of the necklace merely became a shade deeper in color—that was it.
Luck increased by 2 points. Its exact effect was still unknown. Zane had no idea how much luck actually influenced the game—or if it even mattered at all. The grade and required level remained unchanged, but the necklace gained two new special skills.
Soul Transfer and Shapeshift?
“It worked,” Starry nodded.
‘What can these special skills even do? There isn’t any description provided.’
“It’s hard to explain right now,” Starry said. “Let’s grab some quests first, then test it out outside the city.”
Zane had no idea what she was planning, but he nodded in agreement, ‘Alright.’
…
‘Oh, right. Starry, check your friend list. They should have added me by now.’
“Let me see…” Starry swiped open the friend list. A pile of unread notifications appeared next to the add friend icon.
Accept!
Almost instantly, a message from Endless Sea popped up.
“Stardust, you finally accepted my friend request… I forgot to ask earlier—which city did you guys pick?”
“Wynwater City,” Starry replied.
“…I’m already in Dusk City.” Endless Sea asked. “Should I just teleport over and join you guys?”
“No need,” Starry said. “Teleportation costs one gold coin per trip. You probably need that for your class advancement, right?”
“WTF—I totally forgot about that!” Endless Sea groaned. “This scammy Knight mentor actually charged me one gold just to register for the class! I literally don’t have enough money to teleport now.”
“Just focus on leveling there for now. With the Fractured Hammer, you should have no problem grinding solo.”
“Alright, once I save up enough, I’ll head over ASAP!”
Next friend request.
System Notifications: “Zanny’s Cousin” has sent you a friend request.
Accept!
Her friend list instantly showed a grayed-out avatar. Looks like she’s already asleep.
The rest of the requests were from unfamiliar IDs—probably random players from Beginner Village. Starry ignored them for now and switched to Zane’s account.
His friend requests included Endless Sea and Zaria, along with three others: “Nameless Wanderer,” “Nangong Fort,” and “First Snow.” Most likely his friends from the group chat.
Accept!
Both Nangong and Endless Sea still had active status icons, while the others had logged out.
These two are hardcore grinders… Although, technically, Zane wasn’t in any position to judge them …Sleepwalking doesn’t count, right?
…
“Young man, the gray wolves outside the west gate have been attacking our merchant caravans. If we don’t do something about them, we might as well shut down our business! Would you be willing to help us? Of course, you will be handsomely rewarded.” A middle-aged man spoke angrily.
Ding!
System Notification: Moss has issued a B-rank quest,
“Eliminate the Gray Wolves (0/100).”
Would you like to accept it?
Accept!
Ding!
System Notification: Quest accepted.
Head to Wynwater City’s west gate and teach those rampaging wolves a lesson!
“Gray wolves are pack hunters,” Moss warned. “Be careful not to get surrounded!”
“Got it,” Starry nodded in understanding.
After checking around for other available quests, Starry controlled both characters and headed toward the west gate.
With the arrival of adventurers, all frontline cities kept their gates open 24/7, meaning night owls didn’t have to worry about getting locked out.
…
‘In the bushes,’ Zane reminded.
“Got it.” Seizing the moment while the Gray Wolf still believed it was hidden, Starry rushed forward, her Autumn Moon Sword slicing through the air in a crescent arc.
Shing!
-457
Blood splattered from the wolf’s back, its health bar instantly dropping by three-quarters. At the same time, Starry’s interface displayed the wolf’s attributes.
| Gray Wolf | |
|---|---|
| Grade | Rare |
| Level | 13 |
| HP | 600 |
| Attack | 37-45 |
| Defense | 21 |
| Skills | Call for Reinforcements, Sprint |
| Description | If you ever come across a lone Gray Wolf, don’t let your guard down. The next moment, you might find yourself surrounded. |
600 HP. 37-45 Attack. 21 Defense. Its stats completely overshadowed the Venomous Spider boss from Beginner Village. And yet—this was just a normal Rare monster outside the city!
The monsters outside the city gates were clearly scaled to match the attributes of post-class advancement players. Otherwise, these ridiculous stats wouldn’t make any sense.
Yet Starry and Zane were still fighting with pre-class advancement stats! Even so, with Starry’s absurd attack power of 170-185, class change or not, she could still shred through enemies with ease.
The Gray Wolf realized that its perfect camouflage had been seen through—and worse, this woman was incredibly dangerous. It had to retreat!
Sprint!
The Gray Wolf’s base speed was already 1.5 times faster than the average player. Now, with Sprint activated, it instantly gained several meters of distance.
“Thousand Flash Steps!” Starry’s footwork shifted, her movements flowing like a shadow. Before the Gray Wolf could call for reinforcements, her sword pierced through its body.
-442
The Gray Wolf collapsed with a weak whimper, dropping a few copper coins as it died. A Level 13 monster provided generous experience. Zane could visibly see the EXP bar flicker and rise.
“Try using the necklace’s special skills,” Starry suddenly suggested.
Zane was about to ask how, but before he could say anything— His perspective suddenly shifted back to his own body! His consciousness was fully restored, and his body responded to his thoughts (which, obviously, was expected).
“I’m… back?”
“Sort of,” Starry replied. “But this means your sleep no longer restores energy.”
Even though his perspective was now centered on his own body, he could still share all of Starry’s senses—and she could still share his.
“How did you do that? Can I also switch control over to you?”
“Of course. But if we both try to control the same body at once, it will put an immense strain on the body. If possible, it’s better not to use it too often.”
“Got it.” Zane removed the Mysterious Necklace from his neck. “…Uh, how do I use this thing?”
“Hmm… I’m not sure either. Try figuring it out yourself,” Starry said.
“…”
“Soul Transfer!” Zane aimed the necklace at the fallen Gray Wolf.
A wispy, translucent essence seemed to be pulled from the wolf’s body—a ghostly white mist that was drawn into the ruby gemstone. The ruby began to glow with a faint white light, standing out starkly against the dark night.
Slowly, a Gray Wolf emblem formed within the ruby. At the same time, the white mist reappeared, drifting back into the wolf’s body.
“Whoa… this totally looks like some cursed artifact.” Zane felt a chill run down his spine.
A vein bulged on Starry’s forehead. “Cursed, my a̲s̲s̲! Your grandmother gave this to you!”
“…Fair point. Grandma would never give me anything harmful.” Zane nodded in agreement. “Alright, let’s try the next special skill; Shapeshift!”
A brilliant white light burst forth from the necklace, engulfing Zane’s entire body. The light condensed into a glowing ring, spinning rapidly as it shrunk in size. Five seconds later, the light finally dissipated— Leaving behind a Gray Wolf standing in his place.
“Awoo—!”
Starry immediately inspected his status.
