“Huh? You’re already back online? Didn’t you say it’d take two hours?” Endless Sea asked upon logging in and seeing that Zane and Starry were already there.
“Because there’s no need to wait anymore,” Zane replied with a smirk.
“What? What do you mean? Do you have a plan, Emberveil?” Endless Sea asked, puzzled.
Zane glanced over at Treka, who was still focused on absorbing magic energy.
“Let’s talk outside.” With that, he walked out without further explanation.
“What’s going on? Why all the secrecy?” Endless Sea grumbled as he followed.
…
“There’s something off about this NPC,” Zane sent a private message instead of speaking out loud.
“Huh? What do you mean by that?” Endless Sea responded.
“Her entire team was wiped out, yet the enemy didn’t manage to kill her. And think about it—when Treka left, why didn’t Kesius just attack her directly with magic? Why go through the trouble of feeding Withering Heart Grass to a Blood Bat and throwing it into the portal? It doesn’t add up.”
“Now that you mention it… yeah, that does seem strange. Maybe she had some sort of protection?” Endless Sea suggested.
Zane shook his head and replied, “She’s already been corrupted. She just has a shred of consciousness left.”
“No way! She looks perfectly normal to me.”
“I can feel it.”
“…Feel it? I feel like you’re messing with me,” Endless Sea replied with skepticism. “Anyway, whether she has issues or not, we still have to rely on her. There’s no way we can handle that Bat King on our own.”
“Leave it to me,” Starry said, stepping forward.
“…”
…
They retraced their steps through the cave.
“Stardust, are you really confident you can deal with that thing? This cave is way too narrow. If it starts draining our blood, all our efforts will be wasted,” Endless Sea said nervously.
Instead of answering, Starry asked, “What’s your attack speed?”
Endless Sea answered instinctively, “I can attack about once every three seconds.”
“That’s enough.”
“Enough? What do you mean?” Endless Sea suddenly had a thought. “Wait… are you planning to use knockback and stun-lock tactics against the boss?”
In Dreamscape, attacking a target caused a brief moment of stun, during which the enemy couldn’t move. This effect lasted only for a split second and was usually negligible. However, the stronger the attack or the higher the damage dealt in an instant, the more effective the stun became.
Some players had even developed a strategy around this mechanic. By maintaining a high attack frequency, they could keep an enemy locked in a perpetual stun state, a tactic commonly referred to as “suppression control.”
In theory, if attacks were continuous enough, they could immobilize a target entirely. However, in practice, it was difficult to execute. If there was even a brief gap between attacks, the enemy would retaliate fiercely. Additionally, certain skills could grant immunity to stun, though such abilities were rare in the early stages of the game.
“Exactly!” Starry confirmed. “The biggest challenge with the boss isn’t Life Drain—it’s the Sonic Wave Attack. That move drastically reduces our reaction and movement speeds. If we can avoid it, the boss’ mobility will be significantly less threatening.”
“I can easily dodge its charging attack, but the key is to prevent Life Drain. As long as we strike before it gets close, the resulting stun will give me an opportunity to reposition. Your Fractured Hammer is crucial, Endless Sea. You need to use it whenever both Emberveil and I are on cooldown.”
“Stardust… I don’t want to rain on your parade, but this is all theoretical nonsense. Relying on stun-lock to dodge attacks sounds completely unreliable. Soft control effects like that might as well not exist. And how do you expect to dodge the Sonic Wave Attack? Not to mention—let me be blunt—Emberveil can’t keep up with our pace. This plan is doomed from the start,” Endless Sea criticized.
What the hell? Am I that useless to you?! Zane roared internally.
“Pfft—” Starry almost burst out laughing.
“I have a way to deal with the Sonic Wave Attack. Look at this,” Starry said, pulling out a handful of cotton.
“Cotton? Uh… is this supposed to be earplugs? Where did you even get it?”
“I bought it when we went back to get fire-starting supplies. I didn’t think it’d come in handy here. As for Emberveil… trust in his skills!” Starry said confidently.
“…Fine, since you insist. Worst case, we die and respawn. Let’s go all out!”
“Now that’s the spirit~!”
…
The three of them carefully packed their ears with cotton as they advanced with caution.
“It’s coming!”
Starry alerted them through the party chat after sensing a chilling wind sweep past.
A terrifying face with vicious fangs appeared—the Blood Bat King, half the size of a human, had returned!
“Zzzzzr—zzz—”
The trio remained unfazed. The Bat King, puzzled by their lack of reaction, hesitated.
Perfect timing!
Under Starry’s control, both bodies struck at the same time—one from the left and one from the right—aiming for the Bat’s mouth. Two blue damage numbers popped up!
Well, even when hitting the weak point, Zane’s damage was still barely worth mentioning.
The Blood Bat King’s eyes widened in rage. With its fangs bared, it flapped its wings and charged toward Starry.
Starry and Zane sidestepped, leaving a clear path for one person.
“Take this hammer strike!” Endless Sea, who had been waiting, unleashed his attack. The Fractured Hammer, carrying immense force, smashed into the Bat’s face.

Bang!
The Blood Bat King staggered, shaking its head as it was knocked back slightly.
“Run! Keep kiting it!” Starry shouted through the party chat.
“Got it!”
The Bat King screeched furiously and gave chase, refusing to let them escape. However, the Sonic Wave Attack had no effect this time.
Even without the slowing effect, the boss could easily catch up to them. As the monster closed in, Zane turned and slashed at it.

The damage was minimal, but it caused a brief moment of stun. Starry seized the opportunity to duck low, allowing the Bat to overshoot her position.
She struck its back with another slash.

“How much longer?” Starry yelled in the party chat.
“Half a second!” Endless Sea quickly replied.
Damn! The next attack is coming!
At the critical moment, Zane grabbed Starry’s hand and yanked her aside with all his strength. The boss’ momentum carried it straight into the cave wall. Starry planted her hand on the ground and performed a backflip, landing on her feet.
The boss recovered quickly, adjusting its posture and launching another assault.
“Die, you fiend!” Endless Sea roared, swinging the Fractured Hammer with a powerful arc.

The off-guard boss was knocked back once again.
“Keep running!” Starry commanded.
…
And so, in the heart-pounding tug-of-war, the Blood Bat King’s health was slowly worn down, yet throughout the entire battle, it never managed to land a single hit on Starry. This only fueled its anger further.
In truth, once the Sonic Wave Attack became ineffective, the Blood Bat King was doomed, as its monotonous melee attacks had no chance against their strategy.
With one final strike, Starry drove the Autumn Moon Sword into the boss’ mouth, ending its wicked life.
A flash of golden light appeared, and to everyone’s surprise, Starry reached level 10! It seemed this rare boss granted a surprisingly rich amount of experience.
