They were kept on the defensive to prevent them from breaking through the battle lines, while Howard and his higher-ranked members took charge of the extermination. But there were too many of them. Each vampire had summoned between 13 to 15 servants, and the total number of servants exceeded 70. Although Howard and his team were cutting them down one by one, there were still more than 50 of them.
“Sir Cloud!”
Ryder approached Howard after cutting down a Lesser Vampire. Struck by the blade of Ryder, known as the Golden Vampire Slayer on the western frontier, the Lesser Vampire crumbled easily to dust.
“Have you cleared your regrets, Ryder?”
“One for sure. The rest, well…”
“I see. What?!”
At that moment, both of them sensed a bold and menacing presence approaching.
“Boss! This!!!”
“Don’t panic!”
Marcel called out to Howard in a panicked voice.
They knew this filth-like presence. They had also felt it a few minutes ago. They couldn’t have forgotten it until now. The presence was rapidly approaching them.
It arced out of the sky, slammed into the earth with full force, gouged a hole in the ground, rolled, and eventually stopped directly in front of Howard and the others.
They gripped the earth with both hands, lifted their dirt-covered body, and began spitting out curses.
“Screw this! I won’t forgive her! I won’t forget what the damn redhead did! I’ll kill her! I’ll tear her into thousands of pieces! I don’t need her blood! I’ll tear off the fingers on her limbs one by one, and then cut them up into pieces! That freaking girl! I’ll make her learn who it was that she kicked! She’ll die as she lets out screams in agony! She’ll regret this as she’s drowning in her blood! Haha! Hyahahaha!!!”
Orbet Mash let out a distorted laugh from his ugly, twisted mouth.
“You were gone for a bit, but it seems it was enough. This look suits you better, Child Eater.”
“What?! You! Why are you here?!”
“You look pathetic, Child Eater. I don’t think you’d want to continue staying like this. How about I show you some mercy and end your life with my own two hands!”
“You foolish geezer! I’ve had enough! I’m done sparing you! I’ll use everything at my disposal to lay waste to all of you!”
Orbet then plucked a blue Heavenly Pearl from his chest, placed it in his mouth, and chewed it. He also ripped off several Heavenly Pearls he wore around his neck like a necklace and put them in his hand.
“I’m using my entire collection! You’ll pay a dear price for what you did!”
Orbet chewed on Heavenly Pearl after Heavenly Pearl. A torrent of Mana and souls began swirling and raging through his body. Breathing heavily, he forcefully swallowed the surging Mana, and his body rapidly began to transform. His flesh rose like a bubbling, frothing mass. His missing lower half began to swell with meat, eventually forming anew.
Soon, his limbs were covered in thick, strong muscles, and massive claws dug into the ground. His nose had elongated, and his wide-open mouth became lined with sharp fangs. His entire body became coated in rough, oversized scales, muddy and reddish-black like stagnant blood. His long, thick tail whipped the ground, and a heavy crash shook the area.
Orbet let out a rumbling, earth-shaking roar. Now more than five meters long, he resembled a giant crocodile with a long neck and distorted bat-like wings.
With his body still expanding, Orbet raised his head, released a thunderous roar, and suddenly lunged at the Lesser Vampires around him. With his massive jaws, he bit into them, chewing and swallowing two or three at a time. After devouring more than a dozen Lesser Vampires in rapid succession, the changes in Orbet’s body finally stabilized. He then let out a low, ferocious snarl and glared at Howard.
“You better be ready! You’ll all die! Adults, children—none will be spared! I’ll kill you all! Every last one of you. Every single villager. I’ll eat you all and fuel myself! Now die with honor!”
“Let’s see you try, Child Eater!!!”
Howard raised his Zweihänder and channeled Mana through his armor, causing the equipment’s magic seal to glow.
Orbet howled and charged, his enormous body rippling as he advanced at a speed that defied his size, rapidly closing the distance between them. He opened his mouth to bite down on Howard.
But just before the fangs had reached him, Howard pulled back his right leg and slipped out of the line of attack. The Zweihänder, which was grounded and building up energy, was unleashed with explosive force from below.
“Aaaahhh!!!”
The sword strike, unleashed with fierce spirit, slammed into Orbet’s jaw with a resounding impact, sending his head back.
“Urgh!”
Orbet’s head jerked back, his eyes flashing white for a brief moment. But almost instantly, as if realizing the danger, he twisted his massive body and moved aside. An instant later, a blue sword flash sliced through the spot where his throat had just been exposed. The Zweihänder cut through the air as Howard spun due to the momentum.
“And I was sure I’d cut off his nose. This armor isn’t enough. Even though you’ve grown bigger, you’re just as good at running away, aren’t you? Child Eater!”
“Shut up, you geezer!”
Orbet turned away from Howard and ran.
“It’s not like I have to deal with you first!”
He then turned his snout toward the cluster of low-ranked soldiers.
“You! Running away again?!”
Howard dashed after him. The corners of Orbet’s mouth curved upward as he noticed this from the corner of his eye. Then, spinning on the spot, he slammed his thick, scale-covered tail into the side of Howard’s head as he chased close behind. Struck by the massive tail, Howard was launched into the forest, smashing through log barriers and trees as he tumbled away.
“Boss!”
Gary Meyers screamed hysterically. Orbet glanced at the shattered protective fence and twisted his mouth in disgust. A moment later, however, a sword flash sliced across Orbet’s nose. The knight’s sword, cloaked in a golden aura, carved a deep wound into the bridge of his nose. Orbet screamed, twisted his body in pain, and retreated.
“Did you forget about me, Child Eater?”
Ryder Haggard spun around his knight’s sword in a tight, fluid motion, keeping a cautious distance while locking his sharp gaze on Orbet.
“So it’s you! Won’t you just go away!”
Orbet gnashed his jagged, unruly fangs and thrust his claws into the ground.
“You’re cornered! Besides, do you think that much is enough to take down Sir Cloud?”
“I can’t believe I fell for such stupid bait. Susie’s going to scold me later for not being careful.”
Howard emerged from between the protective fences, which had shattered from the impact. He placed his right hand on the back of his neck and tilted it to crack it. Returning to the clearing, he swung his Zweihänder in a wide arc to loosen his shoulders, then quickly began to swing his blue blade around.
“Are we all warmed up now, Child Eater?”
“Don’t mess with me, you freaking geezer!”
