In the end, Dana was struck down a total of five times.

“Good work.”
“Haa! Haa! Haa!”

Corin quietly approached Dana, who was sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall and clinging to her spear.

“How was it? Did she live up to your expectations?”
“Haaa! Haa! Sure did! She exceeded them! Haa! What… an… unbelievable… kid!”
“It’s my first time seeing you so powerless, Dana.”
“Haa… We’re… in completely different… leagues. I told you, didn’t I? That’s… a true master!”
“Fufufu. You seem quite happy.”
“Hehe. Of course… I am! To… To think there’d be such an amazing kid here! Every day is filled with joy! And… She’s so cute! I’m head over heels for Su!”
“I know. That makes two of us! Fufu.”

Corin said as both girls shared a moment of laughter. Mia, watching them, puffed out her cheeks and said, “I’m even more head over heels than you!”

“I didn’t expect anything less from you, Su. You’re more than I could’ve imagined!” Cara’s weapon of choice was a single-edged sword with a blade about 30 centimeters long that lacked a guard.

With the sword sheathed at her waist, Cara turned her arm to hide it behind her back and began moving it left and right, sliding along the ground, almost as if crawling.

(Isn’t that a short sword? I knew she was a ninja! Also, isn’t that the Changing Draw: Haze Slicer1?!)

Cara moved as if trying to dash past Susie’s side and attempted to slide her blade through, but Susie’s sword intercepted it. The moment the blade was repelled, Cara jumped backward to absorb the powerful impact, spinning several times in midair before landing on all fours.

“Amazing. My hand that received it is trembling…” Care straightened up, shook off the hand holding the short sword while adjusting her stance, and began jumping in place. “I’m going all out this time! I feel like this one might work if it’s you, Su!”

With that declaration, she started running toward Susie again. Once more, her body swayed from side to side, but this time, the movements appeared larger and even three-dimensional.

“Phantom Quartet!” Suddenly, clones of Cara appeared2.

“What?! Shadow… Clone… Jutsu3?!”

(I see. She is trying to divide my attention between her movements as she’s coming towards me. This skill will only get stronger the better her opponent is at perceiving her presence… Is Cara able to control Chi then? She definitely has way more Chi wrapped up around her blade when compared to Irvine and Dana. But still! It’s nowhere near Papa Howard’s level!)

Four Caras closed in on Susie. At nearly the same moment the clones reached her, Cara’s blade came from behind, closing in on Susie.

However, just as before the blade struck, Susie moved her arm from the bottom up, raising her sword behind her back, and stopped the blow with the edge of her sword.

Cara’s eyes widened in surprise, and she momentarily froze. She couldn’t believe that Susie had stopped an attack that was aimed at her blind spot without even turning back to look. This moment of hesitation from Cara was all it took for the phantoms to disappear.

Without turning around, Susie smoothly repelled Cara’s sword by sliding her blade as if brushing it aside, pressing the flat side of her sword’s tip against Cara’s hand, which held the short sword.

Using Cara’s hand as a pivot point, Susie twisted her sword, causing Cara’s legs to lift off the ground.

“N-Not good!” At that moment, Cara felt her body spin and noticed herself being drawn towards Susie. In the next moment, Susie’s left elbow struck Cara’s stomach. “Argh!”

Cara was sent flying backward, slamming into the wall before collapsing to the floor.

Alicia was unarmed but wore protective gear. She was bouncing lightly in place while wearing thickly padded gloves, elbow guards, shin pads, knee pads, and instep guards.

(A hand-to-hand fighter? Those gloves look a lot like the ones used by those who train in karate… Wait? What’s that knife-looking weapon at her waist? Maybe she’s like a commando—someone who punches and kicks, then finishes you off with a knife4? Could she be the most dangerous one out of the bunch?)

“Finally, it’s my turn! Just so you know, I’m the last. Given that we’re dressed the same, this feels like a duel between sisters!” Alicia grinned brightly at Susie, but once Susie realized she was a hand-to-hand fighter, she couldn’t help seeing her as some kind of hermit in casual clothes.

“Here I come!” Alicia launched her attack right as the match began. She started with a left backward hook kick, quickly followed by a right roundhouse kick, then unleashed a series of kicks as if dancing.

Susie, however, easily dodged every one of them.

Eventually, Alicia flipped her body to land in a headstand position and began spinning while using her hands to support herself. Using the centrifugal force from her movement, she spun her legs at high speed, launching a kick toward Susie.

(Whoa! A Spinning Bird Kick5?!)

Susie deflected the approaching leg with the back of her right hand.

Alicia, using the momentum from being flung away, spun back upright, regained her stance, and kicked off the ground once more to close the distance between them.

She drew the knife from her waist and unleashed a rapid series of attacks, combining swift strikes with kicks, elbows, and knees in quick succession.

Susie, in turn, raised her heel, keeping her right toe on the floor, and lightly stomped her heel down. The impact rippled across the floor, disrupting Alicia’s balance as she was caught by the shockwave. Susie quickly advanced forward, and Alicia instinctively raised her arm to guard.

However, when Susie lightly tapped her right palm against Alicia’s raised arm guard, Alicia’s entire body was sent flying by the force of the impact.

“Argh! A palm thrust! Gurgh!” Alicia crashed into the wall and collapsed, just like Cara before her.

“It seems that, unlike the two underclassmen, she didn’t hold back against you graduates.” Jessica remarked with amusement after tending to Cara.

“Haha, I’m not sure whether to feel happy or frustrated…” Cara giggled as she sat on the floor by the wall.
“If you ask me, I’m frustrated! I had such a great time with Su, and now I’m graduating!”
“We still have the whole summer together, so it’s fine, no?”
“That’s true, but still… Arghhh! If only we could’ve met sooner!”
“Fufu. You sound just like a spoiled brat. Well, I’d better check on Alicia too! I wonder if she’s managed to break a rib ♪”
“Why do you look so happy?! You’re scary, Jessica!”

After finishing sparring with the upperclassmen, Susie also took on the underclassmen. In a series of one-on-many standoffs, the younger students did their best to land a hit on her.

Among them, Stephan and Helena Slater from the 6th level put in a commendable effort.

While most of the children lost the will to fight after experiencing Susie’s “Friendly Finger” for the first time, Stephan, having endured it many times daily, kept coming back for more, as if saying, “This is nothing after all this time!” His movements had shown some improvement, likely due to the past week’s preparation.

Helena, on the other hand, had been the only student to display hostility toward Susie ever since her arrival at the school.

“I do not approve of you!” She had declared on Susie’s second day. The sudden words of rejection had caused Susie a little pain.

However, this hostility had apparently stemmed from a feeling of jealousy born from Dana, whom Helena deeply admired, being absolutely infatuated with Susie.

Now, that very Dana, whom she had once revered, was completely powerless, while Helena herself also struggled just to touch Susie. Despite the stinging pain that resonated deep within her every time Susie deflected her attacks, Helena continued to rise again and again, tears forming in her eyes but never giving up.

Now, Helena thought she understood why Dana was so crazy about this person. Helena, too, was a girl of Amukham.

“Thank you for your hard work. You’ve certainly been an inspiration to everyone.”
“Me too… Thank you… Was… very… fun!”
“I’m glad to hear that! To be honest, I’d love to get a round in as well, but it seems like that will be impossible today. How about we set one up in the near future?”
“Sure! Let’s! It’ll… be… my… pleasure!”
Susie and Ryder shook hands, promising to spar.

“Can… ask… one… thing?”
“What is it? If it’s something I can answer, ask away.”
“Um… who… is… Lavi?”

Ryder’s expression immediately grew tense at Susie’s question.

“Oh… yea… I did say that… Let me see…” The image and voice of a girl he had once known returned to Ryder’s mind. “I’m sorry… I’m afraid… I can’t answer that… Please… forgive me.”

Ryder gripped his chest, his face contorted in apparent pain. Susie could only stare at him, watching Ryder struggle6.

Footnotes:

  1. TL/N: Changing Draw: Haze Slicer is a term I came up with from the term 変移抜刀霞斬り. It is the author’s way of referencing a manga known as Kamui Gaiden or Kamui Den, which came out way back in 1964. In that manga, the main character Kamui uses the move mentioned above. It involves switching the position of your sword behind your back and then delivering a fast strike. The video in this link gives a better idea of how it looks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlG0IhAkY8w
  2. Robinxen: Is this… is this a normal school? Man skills in this world are wild.
  3. TL/N: Shadow Clone Jutsu is a reference to the manga/anime Naruto.
Robinxen: I feel like you need to revise fundamental weeb knowledge if you don’t know this, and I’ve literally only watched ten episodes of Naruto.
  4. Robinxen: These kids are terrifying?!?!?!
  5. TL/N: Spinning Bird Kick is a reference to the Spinning Bird Kick move that is performed by Chun-Li in Street Fighter.
  6. Robinxen: Strange reaction… anyway there were quite a few TL notes this time, makes a refreshing change.
