“Woof, we’re here!”
“Yep, we are.”

We had finally arrived at the amusement park. She had had her arms around mine all that time, and I could sense her heart racing… or at least it felt that way. All I did was change our date location from the department store to the amusement park, but we were still this excited.

What’s goin’ on?

Maybe the place made the difference. This was my first time coming to the amusement park since I got a girlfriend.

“In the end, I didn’t sleep very well yesterday…”
“You didn’t?”
“Woof. I was already so excited, and then you proposed sleeping next to you in the same bed. I couldn’t fall asleep.”

I mean, it felt like both of us slept rather soundly. We always were next to each other in Anazumu, so we were used to it at this point. Well, we were both excited, but not to the point where we couldn’t fall asleep.

“Does that mean the amusement park will be too much for you?”
“…I-I managed to get about five hours of sleep, so I’ll be fine!”
“Alright, let’s go in, then.”
“Woof.”

It was common (according to Kanata) for the guy to pay the entry fee for the amusement park. So, I obviously paid for the one day passes that’d let us use all attractions. Or at least I tried to.

“Woof, you can’t!”

Well, I somewhat expected her to object.

“Just let me pay for it.”
“No, I have my own money!”
“That’s not how I mean it.”
“Not how you mean it…? Oh!”

Maybe because she understood my aim, she took a step back from the counter. This was (once again, according to Kanata) the best point for a guy to show off. We managed to enter the park without further incident.

“Which one should we ride, Rir?”
“Wh-Which one? How about the one where this girl called Mary makes her rounds?”
“You mean the Merry-Go-Round¹? Sure thing.”

We boarded the ride she had suggested. I was already 17, so riding the carousel felt embarrassing… or it would have if I were on my own, but strangely enough, having my girlfriend with me made all the difference.

“You’re like a prince to me, Shuu, so you should take the white horse.”
“S-Sure.”

I’m like a prince to her, huh? She says that occasionally and it always feels a bit awkward. Though not in a bad way.

“Awoo! This was so~ much fun!” Rir called out excitedly after it was over. There was a dazzling smile on her face.
“That’s good to hear.”

It looked like she enjoyed riding the attraction during her first time in an amusement park.

“Which one should we ride next?” I asked her.
“Next, we’ll-”

“This couple’s drink was quite good, wasn’t it?”
“W-Weren’t you embarrassed?”
“A bit…”

We had ridden the spinning coffee cups, went calmly through the haunted house, looked at each other while swinging on a trapeze, and screamed on the roller-coaster, though it wasn’t actually that scary.

After savoring the thrill of go-kart driving, we had lunch at the food court. Though it was somewhat after noon, since we had prioritized the rides.

“But it was fun drinking cola while gazing at each other.”
“I guess.”

Indeed, she looked very happy.

“Woof, this is so much fun.”

She leaned her head against me and hugged me, as if to spoil me.

“You’re right. I’m havin’ fun, too.”
“You’re enjoying the date with me?”
“Yep, I do.”

Rather than just enjoying it… it was both calming and adorable to see her expressions switch all the time.

“Good to hear! What should we ride next, then?”
“How ’bout the pirate ship?”
“I heard about that. Thinking about it makes my tummy feel a bit weird². Let’s ride it!”

“It’s already this late?”

It was a bit past half past five in the afternoon. It would take one hour to get home, and I was thinking of stopping to have dinner on the way, so the next ride would be the last.

“In that case, the last should be…”
“The Ferris Wheel, right?”
“Woof~! I heard the ride on Ferris Wheel here is quite long.”

Maybe Ayumu and Mika also took it as their last ride on their date last week. And if they did, they made out during the ride for sure.
Now it was our turn.

“The line was a bit long, but we made it.”
“Yep, we’re goin’ up.”

While sitting side by side in the cabin, we turned around and looked at the scenery. As she looked outside, I watched her face in profile. The light from the setting sun was illuminating her, giving her an atmosphere that seemed different from usual.

I hugged her.

“Woof… Shuu, eh-heh-heh.”
“Rir… I love you.”
“I love you, too. Always have.”

She returned the embrace. There was nothing different from our usual hugs, but it felt more intense, warmer.

“…I didn’t notice, but we’re already close to the peak.”
“You’re right, we are.”
“Shuu…”

She closed her eyes. I could guess what she wanted me to do, so I kissed her. The moment I did, she opened her eyes, and we were looking at each other. Not letting this bother us, our tongues entwined and had their back and forth while we were high up in the air, where no one could see us.

Coming to the amusement park had been the right idea. Well, I couldn’t exactly speak in absolutes here.

“…Heh-heh.”

Our lips parted and the evening sun shone on her again. It somehow made her look magical, as if she would disappear at any moment. Maybe that was because she came from another world, or because I had let her die once. I couldn’t say for sure, but I wouldn’t let go of her.

I hugged her again.

1. In the original, Rir confuses メリーゴーランド (“merry-go-round”) with メリーさんのコーラランド (“Miss Mary’s Cola Land”). The problem here is that this is an English word and people from northern Europe tend to be very good at English, so it’s not a mistake that makes sense for her.
2. In the original, Shuu proposes the バイキング (“Viking), which I assume would be something like the pirate ship attraction swinging back and forth. However, the word also means “all-you-can-eat buffet” in Japanese, so in the original, Rir says that it makes her hungry again.
