“Alim~!”

Ten minutes after Parasuna had changed into her wedding dress, Mika arrived. She pulled me into a hug in front of quite a few acquaintances.

“Huh? Don’t tell me you don’t need my help with anything?”
“Yep.”
“I see… I thought I could lend you a hand, so I came early.”

She hung her head dejectedly. It looked cute, so I patted her head to cheer her up.

“Eh-heh-heh… I see Mr. Gilmars and Mr. Bacchus are here already,” she commented as she saw them milling about. “Does that mean the bride and groom are here, too?”
“They are. I just finished helping Parasuna get dressed.”
“You did? So, those two are on their own right now?”
“Exactly. It’s just them in the waiting room. I’m pretty sure they’re currently reminiscing about the past.”

They probably needed some time on their own to think back on things and make this ceremony more memorable for them.

“In any case… how did you come up with the design for those decorations? You must’ve wracked your brain like crazy both on Earth and here,” she praised my work, as her gaze wandered around the church interior.

Then, her cheeks suddenly flushed, as if she thought about something embarrassing.

“I-I hope we’ll have an ambience like this when it comes to our wedding.”
“Well, I’m sure I’ll manage something…”
“When we get married on Earth… I wonder what your job will be, Ayumu. Will you design things like this?”

Becoming a designer on Earth… huh? That never crossed my mind, but it might not be such a bad idea. Shuu mentioned that he’s planning to study statecraft on the university and then start a career as a policeman, and Mika would become my wife. Right, she also wanted to open a café.

I’m the only one without any dreams for the future. Becoming a designer might work.

“You’re right… that might not be so bad!”
“You think so? Well, with your talents, I’m sure you could do anything.”

With her at my side, that might be true. In any case, I’d have to work hard, on Earth, that is. In Anazumu, I was already successful enough.

“…Did we come here too early, after all?”
“Hm? We ain’t. Bacchus, Gilmars, Alim, and Mika are here already, y’see?”

As the door to the church opened, I could hear voices.

“Woah… This is awesome! It’s so pretty…!”
“…True, this is incredible…”

Four people, three men and one woman, entered. First were Gabaina and Lahand. Then the latter’s friends, Margo and Gog.

I called out to them.

“Mr. Gabaina, Mr. Lahand, it’s been a while!”
“Long time no see, Alim. You’ve gone places since back then,” Gabaina replied.
“You seem different from that affair with that Faust jackass1,” Lahand added.

The two of them spoke seriously. There had never been a good opportunity to meet up, so it really had been a long time. They also never visited us at our house.

“So much happened since we last saw each other…”
“I’m sure you’re at the point where you could defeat a Thunderbird in the blink of an eye now, right?”
“Ha-ha… yes, I can.”

At this point, a wink might blast away such a monster, and a mere kiss could be enough to kill it. Okay, that was an exaggeration. But I was sure that I could defeat it with my pinky when it came to close combat, or, on the magical front, just by unleashing my magic power. You could think of it as having grown into one’s own.

“Oh… M-Mika!”

Margo, who had noticed Mika, was hiding a bit behind Lahand. The way she looked at her was completely different from back then.

“Oy, what’s wrong?”
“I’m a bit nervous… after all, Mika is so different…”

True enough, from Margo’s perspective, she had gone from the lost girl back then to a famous top-ranker.

“Miss Margo! It’s been forever!”
“Y-Yes, it has!”

When Mika called out to her, she flinched and straightened her back. The girl’s voice turned weirdly shrill, likely due to her nervousness.

“M-M-M-Mika, y-y-y-you’re so much stronger than back then.”
“Eh-heh-heh… It’s all because I found Alim. That changed my life.”
“Y-You changed so much, simply by being with Alim…?”

Mika’s reply was probably rather accurate. By meeting me, Karua changed a lot, too.
Am I the incredible one?

“…Mr. Gog, why are you looking so grumpy?”
“Oh, he told us he broke up with his girlfriend the other day,” Lahand explained. “And right after that happened, we get invited to a wedding…”
“Huh, I see.”

Poor Gog.
Maybe due to what was just said, his expression turned even gloomier.

“Well, none of us got any marriage prospects, ain’t that right?”
“…True.”

The two men who looked closer to middle aged despite being in the latter half of their twenties, chatted. It didn’t sound like Bacchus’ expectations2 would come true for the time being.

“But Mr. Gabaina, isn’t there someone showing interest in you recently.”
“Where did you hear that? All I did is talk a few times to a beastfolk girl with whom I’ve worked once.”

Still, from how Bacchus told it, maybe said girl was making an effort. Well, it was possible that the one she was trying to woo was simply too dense.

“How mean to say that, with Miss Margo telling you again and again that she is interested,” Mika delved deeper into the topic.
“I-It’s true…” Margo stammered.
“Didn’t I tell you before!? She’s like a younger sister or a daughter to me.”
“B-But… ugh…” Margo hung her head in dejection.

Footnotes:

  1. The original is メフィスト (mephisto). I can only assume that’s an error and he means Faust, since I don’t think Lahand ever met Mephistophales.
  2. The verb used in the original is 報われる (“to be repaid/rewarded”). This seems weird in context and doesn’t appear to have a homophone, so I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding something.
