“Well, it’s been about two months. Right, Nakata?”
“It’s Kanata.”

Apparently, there would be a wedding between two SSS-Rankers in this country soon, so big shots and famous high-rank adventurers from other countries were coming here. The bride- and groom-to-be were people who seemed to have helped Ayumu for a while when he came to this city, so he was preparing the wedding decorations, clothes, cake, and such.

Lately, he’d been working hard at school, even outside classes, and this was likely the reason (just like me, he no longer had to study for classes). Well, he was the kind of person to diligently accomplish a request he agreed to, so I wasn’t worried.

Still, I didn’t expect Thor and Heimdal to suddenly pay us a visit… Did them showing up like this mean that Yggdrasil was now stable? Even though it had only been a few months since the king died?

“In any case, it’s great that we could come here for that wedding! Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! You guys look well, much better than when you were over there.”
“That’s because we are happy here… What happened over there after we left?” Kanata asked Thor and Heimdal.
“Hrm.”

It looked like he wondered the same as I.

“I’m not sure if I should be blunt… well, the man is dead, so it’s not like he can complain… Wow, this stuff tastes great!?” Heimdal continued after taking a sip of the tea made by Ayumu. “To be completely honest, it is going far better than while the king was alive. Things can be done without spending money on weird affairs, and the excessively harsh treatment of slaves, that started three generations ago, has eased up. Moreover, the country is still able to operate as usual.”

“Even assuming the king being gone was beneficial… didn’t that cause issues?”

I mean, the guy was the king, after all. The country pretty much used to be a dictatorship, so why would it be so easy to-

“That fool king barely did any proper governing, it was mostly those around him,” Thor interrupted my train of thought. “That’s why it’s going fine. Also, with the only one gone, who was always opposed to improving things, such plans are now advancing smoothly.”

H-He called him a “fool king”… Though guess it’s fine with the guy gone…

“I mean, the family that was the symbol of the country may be gone, but that bloodline existed to oppose Yggdrasil’s evil god in the first place. Nalim Nasuwei, Juu, and Nakata made sure that this evil god is now gone for good, so it’s not like we need that lineage anymore.”

I-I see. Guess that king wasn’t much liked by those around him… He tried to get Rir killed, and I didn’t like him either, but not to the point where I’d be happy he’s dead.

“D-Does that mean there aren’t any problems over there?”
“That’s right. No issues except for the cruel slavery system.”

It wasn’t easy to get rid of slavery. Or rather, it was tough to abolish customs that had been established in the past.

“It would appear as if the politicians realized that the current system of government works well enough, so they will continue managing the country in this manner,” Heimdal explained. “That is also why we plan to consult with Lastman and King Mephilad on how to improve the slavery situation.”

I felt a bit bad for just thinking about my own happiness and up and leaving the country, but it sounded like they were moving in a good direction. From how they said it, it was only a question of time until slavery was gone there.

“At any rate, it feels weird. To be made an envoy to another country just by virtue of being an SSS-Ranker, you know? I was born a peasant,” Thor mused.
“They probably had no choice, with the current shortage of able statesmen. They likely want to inspire at least some confidence in the populace.”

Come to think of it, Lastman, one of the two who’ll get married soon, is apparently rather influential, too. Or rather… he’s said to be the one who got rid of slavery in this country. And there’s Alim and Mika who get summoned by the king on a regular basis and often spend time with the princess. Bein’ an SSS-Ranker is plenty meaningful.

Well, the four of us are still SS-Rank… Plus, we’re unknowns and don’t have much influence. From what I see with Ayumu, that might be more enjoyable.

“That reminds me, Juu, Nakata, Sakura, Rir, there’s something we need to talk with you about,” Thor said, suddenly switching to serious mode.
“What might that be?”

Wh-What’s goin’ on? Don’t tell me we gotta return to that country? No way, I like it here more…

While I was pondering that, Heimdal took out something from his magic bag. When he put it on the table, it turned out to be something like certificates. Four of them.

“…What is that?”
“SSS-Rank certificates. From today on, the four of you are SSS-Rankers.”
