“Oh! Alim, Mika, you’ve come.”
From how vigorously he had opened the doors, the king seemed to be in high spirits. Next to him stood a handsome young man with the appearance of a ruler.
“Oh… to think the day would come when We see those two in the flesh…”
This was likely the foreign ruler the king had told us about yesterday. Either way, he seemed to be one of your fans. That made me a bit happy.
“Alim, Mika, for now, come here. The rest of you, go back to your work or do what you normally would.”
After giving that order, the king retreated back into the throne room. Mika and I raced up the stairs and entered the room, as he had asked us to. In there, we found the king, the foreign ruler, the knight commander and… someone who was likely the foreign ruler’s guard.
“You’ve come. Now, let’s do some introductions first. This gentleman is His Majesty King Rishna Rama of Bufura1.”
So, he really is a king… I’ll refer to him as King Rama mentally.
“How do you do? We2 are Rishna Rama, and We serve as the ruler of Bufara.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you! I am Alim Nariwei!”
“I’m happy to make your acquaintance! My name is Mika Magarigi!”
King Rama gave us a perfect gentlemanly bow, to which we did our best to respond in kind. He made quite the good impression to me.
“Indeed, We know much about the two of you. We have subscribed to all the magazines in which you are featured.
“That’s… thank you very much!”
I think that’s quite a few magazine publishers at this point. There are few people who read all the reports about us.
“As a matter of fact, A-… Miss Alim…”
The king tried to continue but seemed to have some trouble speaking. Especially with how to address Mika and me. I had the impression that he wanted to address us without any honorifics, as was common among our fans3.
“Oh, you may address us however you prefer, Your Majesty Rama!”
“We can…? In that case, may We call you just Alim and Mika?”
“Please.”
It was as I had assumed. That was usually the default for us to be addressed. Definitely.
“We are getting sidetracked, let us continue. Originally, We wanted to attend Alim’s Hero Proclamation. Back then should have been our first meeting, but… it was not to be. The distance between Mephilad and Bufura is not small by any means.”
Huh… but if he had come back then, we couldn’t have talked in peace like now. Delaying it was probably the right call.
“On that note, Our country, the Bufura Kingdom, is the same distance from here as it is to Yggdrasil, the country of the Holy Tree.”
Really, so does that mean those three countries form a triangle? How curious.
“Plus, several business affairs had accumulated… so it was a good opportunity to visit this country. Our main reason is to attend Lastman and Parasuna’s wedding.”
This might be a rude way to put it, but… the genuine ruler of a country came here just to attend a wedding between SSS-Rankers? Does that mean SSS-Rankers are more important than they appear?
“Are you acquainted with Lastman, Your Majesty Rama?” asked Mika, who was likely wondering the same.
“You are correct, Mika. Either way, those two SSS-Rankers abolished slavery… Our country has a caste system similar to slavery, so I was asking them for their opinion about how to get rid of it. We are also close in age. In the first place, a wedding between two fellow SS-Rankers is all the reason needed to rush here… In any case, We are also at SSS-Rank.”
I see, on top of such weddings being rare, he is friends with them.
…Hang on, that wasn’t all, was it? What did he say again right at the end? He himself is an SSS-Ranker, too? Huh… that’s incredible.
“I quit working as an adventurer to learn how to rule as a king, but he is an active SSS-Ranker.”
“It is true. Well, We were lucky enough to obtain the ‘Great Master4‘ skill.”
He has a Master skill on top of that?
We helped Seinforce, Karua, and Tuhl to level up and you could say that they now had a general grasp of the concept of level concerning people in this world, but to both serve as ruler and SSS-Ranker sounded incredible.
“King Rama, you told me that you wished to meet Alim and Mika, so I called them here, but what are your thoughts after the fact?
“…To state my honest feelings, they are magnificently lovely. The pictures cannot compare to reality in the slightest.”
Hearing it like that makes me a bit bashful.
I was currently a girl, so having my looks complimented did make me happy.
“Still, Our apologies for deliberately summoning you here, Alim, Mika.”
“Not at all, our mansion is just around the corner, so it was no trouble. We are practically neighbors.”
“Ah, so you built your mansion close to the castle…? How curious! It’s very… ha-ha-ha-ha!”
For some reason, he started laughing mid-sentence. Was it weird to have a house next to the castle?
Footnotes:
- The originals are リシュナ (rishuna), ラーマ (raama), and ブフーラ (bufuura). With the general tone and the caste system later mentioned in the chapter, this is most likely fantasy India. “Bufura” might be intended to be something else, it doesn’t really sound like an Indian name.
- He uses the 余 (yo) personal pronoun, which seems to be an archaic, dignified, elevated form of “I”. I translated it with the majestic plural.
- It’s addressing them with the -chan suffix in the original.
- The original is グレートマスター (gureeto masutaa). This might also be “Grate Master”. It’s pretty much a placeholder until we see what his skill does, and then I might change it to something more appropriate. For now, it sounds like some martial arts skill.
