“Look at that! Angelfishes! They’re so pretty.”
“Not as pretty as you, Sakura.”
“Th-That’s not something you can compare…”
The two kids were walking around the small fish tanks while cuddling close together. It was Sunday, so naturally there were many people, and since the aquarium was promoted as a place for couples and families, there were many from those categories. At least there weren’t any people who seemed to be there by themselves.
“Come to think of it, why did you choose the aquarium for our date? I’m sure you had many other ideas, right, Kanata?” Sakura suddenly asked when they stood in front of the crab aquarium.
“I did, I just thought the aquarium would work best. Though I did consider going to the movie theatre or the amusement park. In my opinion, going to the cinema would be boring for a first date, since all you do is watch the movie, and there are too many people in the amusement park for my taste. So, I ended up going with this place.”
“Makes sense, in the aquarium, we can walk around while holding hands, and we won’t have to wait long.”
“You got it.”
Kanata flashed a happy smile when he saw Sakura sympathizing with his thoughts. Before long, the two of them shifted their gazes to the next fish tank.
“Pufferfishes, huh?”
“None is puffed up.”
“There is, can’t you see it?” Sakura commented, as she made a show of puffing out her cheeks.
“Huh, Sakura…?”
“What? Ah, s-sorry. Forget what you just saw!”
Kanata was surprised by Sakura’s rather unusual flirtatious and adorable behavior. Suddenly, he took his eyes off the bashful girl and looked at the pufferfishes.
“Look there, Sakura. One of them is puffing up, just like you.”
“Sh-Shut up! Let’s move to the next, the next!”
Dragged along by Sakura, who was blushing up to her ears, Kanata arrived in front of the next fish tank.
“Octopi, huh? They’re just as red as you are right now, Sakura.”
“Wha-… grrr!”
She glared at him in apparent vexation, even puffing out her cheeks a little, though not nearly as much as earlier.
“Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha, sorry.”
“The next time you make a weird comment, get ready for some physical retaliation.”
“Mh, got it.”
They watched the octopi for some time before moving on again. Then, they stopped in front of several fish tanks, where they performed their usual married-couple-comedy-routine and Kanata told her miscellaneous trivia about fishes, until they finally arrived at this aquarium’s most popular exhibit.
“This place… no matter how often I see it, it’s incredible.”
They were currently inside a fish tank. Or to be precise, a giant room with aquariums on all sides.
“True… so pretty…”
While cuddling up just a bit closer to Kanta, Sakura let her gaze stray upwards.
The boy, on the other hand, kept looking at her. The fishes swimming in the tanks caused the water to ripple slightly, which was reflected in the shadows. Those waves combined with the color of water created a fantastical atmosphere. And within that was the way too beautiful face of the boy’s childhood friend and lover.
The face of the beautiful girl, who had taken off her glasses and gotten rid of her “I am completely inferior in looks to my older sister”-complex, seemed perfect in every way, charming the boy genius.
“Sakura, what do you think? What are your impressions of this aquarium now that you’re able to see properly… without your glasses.”
“Hm… it’s pretty. Extremely pretty.” Sakura, who had looked up, turned to Kanata with a smile.
Back when she had worn her glasses, she had been practically blind. Using the newest technology, the tool that looked like thick bottle bottom glasses had improved her eyesight to the point where she could weather her daily life, but in actuality, her sight only reached a visual acuity of 0.051. She had come to see this room surrounded by fish tanks several times before, but this was the first time it truly brought her profound joy.
“…To think it was this pretty.”
“Yep. There will be lots more in the future, with what you’ve seen so far… you’ll experience tons of pretty sights,” Kanata commented with a smile.
“However, it has to be with you, Kanata. Obviously.”
His cheeks involuntarily turned red at the girl’s comment. He was usually perfectly composed, but the words from the one he loved made him weak. He had started to unconsciously suppress this each time Sakura acted in that manner.
“O-Of course it’ll be the two of us.”
“Just as we’ve done until now.”
“Yep. Always together.” He nodded.
She seemed bashfully satisfied.
“…Hm, let’s go view the remaining aquariums and then eat lunch. I’m hungry.”
Sakura, who had been looking up, lowered her gaze and rubbed her belly.
“Let’s do that, then. What are you going to eat?”
This aquarium also had a restaurant, where you could enjoy seafood. Compared to a normal family restaurant, you could eat everything from seafood bowl, sashimi, sushi, to boiled crab, though the prices were higher.
“Right, I guess I’ll go with mackerel sashimi.”
“Gotcha, then I’ll take a normal seafood bowl.”
As agreed, the two of them, while still walking hand in hand, entered the aquarium’s restaurant after visiting the remaining fish tanks.
