The two weeks trial period in Anazumu had passed, and Kanata seemed to judge it a success based on the results of our time there, so we’d continue that cycle from now on.
Our single week on Earth would be starting today… Or rather, it had already started.
Going to class after two weeks hadn’t been especially fun. Kanata studying like crazy during the time in Anazumu had an influence on us, so we also used three days of those two weeks to focus on learning things.
Studying for just three days normally wouldn’t change much on the grand scale, but, well, we did it in Anazumu. Both our stats and the items we used had a big effect, and we ended up finishing everything we needed to graduate from high school and furthermore pass the entry exam for the university.
In other words, classes were boring. While Rir seemed to enjoy this situation and kept studying eagerly with shining eyes, Ayumu, Mika, and I all couldn’t stop yawning during class1.
Well, studying didn’t matter at the moment. There was something more important. Rir would see and experience the judo club today.
I had phoned our instructor last week, telling him that “the transfer student, Rir Fún is curious about clubs and would like see our judo club in action. She would be interested in joining either in a managerial position or as a normal member.” Well, as a matter of fact, I expressed it in more casual terms. He replied that he was worried about the environment since there weren’t any girls in the club and would think about accepting her as a manager. He was a good guy, even though he looked like a gorilla.
“Take care on your way home, then!”
With those words, classes were over for the day.
“Shuu! Could you show me the club room, first?”
“Right!”
Thanks to Yamagami and Sanada, news about Rir and me being in a relationship had spread in the whole school. Thus, everyone, both students and teachers, knew about our circumstances2. In other words, even if Rir, who normally appeared cool and composed, was smiling at me while holding my hand, no one would ask us whether we were dating.
…Though they treat me coldly!
Thus, I pulled her along by her slender and cool hand until we stood in front of our club room. It was the place where I went all the time. Although I called it a club room, it was normally used for PE classes and was only a club room when we practiced judo and such. At those times, it was a communal space that quite a few clubs used.
There were locker rooms, for both boys and girls, so I wasn’t worried about that. Rir wouldn’t have to change clothes in front of people other than me… no, I mean she wouldn’t have to change clothes in front of boys, including me.
Phew… I wasn’t thinkin’ anythin’ weird. It ain’t like I want to peek at her when she’s changin’. Even as a couple who dotes on each other, this wouldn’t be a good thing.
On that note, Rir already had a girls’ martial arts uniform, and she brought it with her. Well, she was apparently allowed to buy it from the school when she transferred here.
“Sorry for the intrusion! I see, you’re practicing on mats, as I thought!”
“Yup.”
Since homeroom ended a bit early and we rushed here, we seemed the be the first and there wasn’t anyone else here, not even our instructor. It was just Rir and me. For some reason, it felt like a new experience.
“Wow… people do train a lot here. It feels like the smell of sweat has soaked into this place.”
“I-I guess.”
“The smell of men doing their very best as their sweat flows. I like it. Though it’s your smell I like most, Shuu!”
“H-Huh?”
Why’d she suddenly say somethin’ this embrassanin’? I’m kinda confused by the different atmosphere here. Though she’s also the reason for that.
“…Oh, Club Head.”
The door suddenly opened with a clatter. In came Gouda3, vice club head and in the same academic year as I.
“Ah, you’re here?”
He had quite the well-built body. His height was only 176 cm, but his arms where thick as logs and he was also heavy. His specially was lifting and carrying things.
By the way, his other hobbies were chess and calculating things with an abacus.
“Huh…? Hino, is that girl next to you the one everyone talks about?”
“You’re right, she’s the transfer student from-”
“Not what I meant, she’s your girlfriend, right? You damn normie.”
There was quite a bit of scorn in his voice. Could it be that he was jealous?
“Sh-She is.”
“God damn it, I’m so jealous. Just you having a girlfriend would be bad enough, muss less to say of a pretty, stylish, smart, and exceptionally athletic foreign woman.”
“W-Woof, th-thank you?”
Rir seemed a bit embarrassed. Well, everything he said was true.
“…So? Why’d you bring her here?”
“Right, she thought if she joined a club, she might as well pick ours, so she’s here to see us in action and decide if she should join either as a normal member or in a new managerial role we didn’t have before.”
“Huh.” Gouda looked at her. After staring at her for about three seconds, he turned back my way. “This makes me even more jealous.”
“…Ha-ha, I guess.”
“…Damn. Even if you call it observe, you clearly brought her here to show off! If you don’t do well during this time’s inter-scholastic tournament, you owe me some barbecue.”
“…Seriously?”
“Seriously.”
Rir didn’t seem bothered by his words. Then, the door to the club room opened again.
Footnotes:
- Called it.
- Just how starved for entertainment are these people? When I was in (the equivalent of) high school, people maybe cared/knew about the couples in their own classes, but beyond that? Most people didn’t care.
- The original is 剛田 (lit. “sturdy field”), another name that only has one reading. And now I keep thinking of the cheese whenever I read that name.
