Afterwards, Rir continued performing flawlessly in practically every subject. Math was a given, but she also easily coasted through history and English, proving herself to be a model student in every class.

Then, it was lunch break. Normally, everyone would eat their bento and bread, or food from the school cafeteria. It was then that Rir stood in front of me, holding her lunch box.

“Shuu! Let’s eat tog-”
“Fún! C’mon, eat with us!”

My girlfriend ended up being surrounded by girls. Even though she just went out of her way to ask me. She was just barely able to make eye contact with me through the wall of girls. I signaled “go eat with them” to her with my hand. She replied with a brief nod.

“Woof, then let’s all eat together today.”
“Yes~!”

Thus, 17 of the 16 girls in our class quickly sat down next to each other and started eating. For some reason, Ayumu was among them, but no one seemed to find that strange. That said, he probably just wanted to eat together with Mika. They were sitting at the edge of the two rows of tables, facing each other.

“Fún, you’re incredible! Is there any subject you’re not good at?”
“Thank you. But I’m not that great.”

Obviously, it was question time again. It went from rather trivial to very profound questions (usually asked by Sanada and then glossed over by Mika).

Bein’ popular must be though… though sayin’ that, while it ain’t as bad for ’em as it is for Rir right now, Ayumu and Mika gotta deal with that every day. Both on Earth and Anazumu.
Is bein’ popular actually just a disadvantage? Nah, that can’t be it.

“By the way, I wanted to ask that before, but is the reason you came to Japan that you love the country?”

When half of the lunch break had passed, Sanada delved into that topic again. On that note, I was just killing time listening to what they asked Rir while eating my lunch.

Either way, how is she gonna reply to that question? I sure hope it won’t be some weird answer.

“Well, that’s part of it, but it’s not the main reason. I have a dream. I came here to chase after someone.”
“You came here because of a person…? Hm hm, is that related to the reason you mentioned this morning?”
“It’s less that it’s related, and more that this is the reason.”

When she was about to go into detail, the boys who hadn’t listened before now also pricked their ears.

If it goes this way, will she expose me as her boyfriend? Not that I’d mind.
Though the guys will tease me ’bout it for a while.

“Really? So… you’re here to meet that someone?”
“Yes. Meet him… talk to him… and relay my love to him.”
“Squee~!”

The girls squealed in delight. The boys without girlfriends, on the other hand, immediately showed dejected looks.

“So, you studied hard and use the new system to come to Japan and meet this guy?”
“I did.”
“Hah. Then, why are you interested in him?”
“…It’s because he saved me twice,” Rir replied, blushing slightly. “Without him, I wouldn’t be here. As a matter of fact, I would’ve died twice already.”

The group of girls with a preference for love stories grew crazy. From an outside perspective, I certainly saved Rir’s life twice and, as a result, she developed feelings for me and worked really hard to come to Japan, which did sound like a magnificent romance.

Well, the guy she’s talkin’ ’bout is me.

“H-Huh. Then you’re searching for his whereabouts and-”
“No, I already know where he lives, and I’ve seen him every day since I came here.”
“Wha-… woah…!!”

The classroom grew even noisier. Now even the boys were listening intently.
It was probably also the way she told the story. If it was going poorly, I would’ve revealed that she was talking about me by now.

Oh, Ayumu turned my way! He and Mika are grinnin’ at me… they turned back again! Here they go, teasin’ me again.

“D-Don’t tell me you’ve already confessed to him?”
“I did that a long time ago.”
“And?”
“He said yes.”

Before we knew it, there were onlookers from the corridor, wondering about the commotion in our classroom. It was mainly the girls who got excited, while the boys looked dejected.

“That’s amazing! Does that mean your dream came true?”
“Yes, it did!”
“What kind of guy is he?”

The girls were overflowing with excitement. Rir got up while scratching her cheek.

“You all know him already.”
“W-We know him?”
“He brought me here this morning,” she explained, as she came to me.

The atmosphere in the classroom froze. She extended her hand to me.

“Woof, sorry for dragging you into this, Shuu.”
“Nah, it’s fine.”

I took her hand and also stood up. And simultaneously, she hugged my arm.

“That’s him.”
“Ha-ha-ha.”
