“…Now, with this it’s over!” I said, looking around at everyone and giving them a smile laced with ample fanservice.
“It felt long… but also short at the same time.”
“…So much happened.”
“Right… it’s over… finally.”
“…Woof.”
Kanata and Sakura were looking at each other, Shuu seemed unsatisfied that it had ended so abruptly, and Rir had a look of anxiety as she gazed at her boyfriend.
“Well, there’s a lot to think about,” I mused. “You probably have things you want to tell Mika and me… and likewise we also have some things we need to say to you.”
“Yeah!” Mika agreed as she, now the same height as me, took my arm and nuzzled her body against it.
So cute.
“Then… shall we return for now?” I proposed. “To the Yggdrasil Kingdom, that is… Could you teleport us, Kanata?”
“You can count on me. We didn’t forget anything?”
After he said that, I hurriedly stored away the sheet from earlier and the Jizou statue in my magic bag. Once I told Kanata “Nothing else, we’re good.”, our shapes disappeared from the nameless, uninhabited island – now in a rather sorry state – and reappeared in Yggdrasil castle…

A vast, yellow field spread out.
“Hey there, it’s been a few hundred years. Have you been well, old bat?”
A man with a black body, with orange, lava-like cracks visible on it, called out to a woman1 with golden hair and magnificent, multi-colored, angelic wings, who was waiting there.
“…Surtr, if you are in this place, old fiend2, does that mean you also lost to the true hero?”
“Hm, well, it is how it is, Samaeyl.”
The black evil god, Surtr, sat down next to the evil god of death, Samaeyl3. She put up with that without showing much displeasure.
“How was it? Was he worthy of satisfying you?”
“Quite, or rather, he was THE BEST! I never experienced such excitement and such a clear defeat, ever since we lost our bodies.”
The man balled his fists in high spirits, his excitement still burning hot. While shooting him a sideways glance, the woman sighed in a manner rather unbefitting of a god.
“…In any case, you’re showing your emotions too clearly, old bat. Even through this avatar, you’re not even trying to hide your smile, you know? You’re thinking of something, aren’t you?”
“Is that true? I am sure that will fade, now that you’re here, old fiend…”
“Right. Still, we need to be careful so that little hero doesn’t notice we aren’t really gone.” Surtr, sitting in the chair, gave a stretch. Then he sniffed, as if he had noticed something. “Am I smelling… alcohol?”
“Indeed, this place has any drinks and snacks you could wish for. They’re in that storage over there.”
Where Samaeyl was pointing, a warehouse could be seen on the field.
“Are you serious?”
“I am.”
“Give me a moment, I‘ll go and get me something.”
Surtr got up and went to the storehouse. He opened the doors and checked the interior. On a round table, the finest snacks he might desire plus a large amount of alcoholic beverages with flavors that could even satisfy a god, were scattered. He gathered them in his arms with a repulsive smile on his face, and then returned to Samaeyl.
“Amazing.”
“…Isn’t it? Moreover, it’s even made so we can see what happens outside.”
Samayel4 took out something resembling a TV remote from out of nowhere and pressed a button while pointing it into the air. That moment, a large screen appeared. On it, a smiling girl with red hair and several boys and girls with varying expressions, who were about to return to their original country, were displayed.
Once Samayel had verified that, she pressed the button again and the screen disappeared. Surtr, who had watched the series of events, gave his impression after wetting his whistle with the tasty beverage.
“…This is leaving nothing to be desired.”
“Indeed.”
“All of this… was arranged by your former puppet… Dace?”
“Yes. As expected of Amon… It seems she even predicted the actions we would take. She likely ordered the true hero to add such functions through Mephistophales’ ability,” Samayel guessed, as Surtr was snacking on the baked sweets he was holding.
“Oh, that’s right. Do you know how often that little hero used Reincarnation, old bat?”
“I heard it… it was 531 times, wasn’t it, old fiend?”
“You’re spot on, he’s likely a Levelmaker.”
“Indeed. Someone who raised his level so much, it even surpassed our predictions… a Levelmaker for sure.”
Surtr, likely since the other god had echoed his own thoughts, gave a guffaw and downed another gulp of his drink.
“That would be… the second Levelmaker, Surtr.”
“Indeed, since that one back then… At any rate, the current generation sure is interesting! Alim Nariwei himself is curious, but this Mika Magarigi next to him is also quite something! The little minx froze over MY Ragnarök! And that isn’t all, there are the three sages, too! Moreover, they are, by far, the strongest sages ever…!”
Surtr let out another laugh, with a look of anticipation in his eyes. Samaeyl gave a brisk nod, once again echoing his sentiments.
“Mika Magarigi. That girl dealt me quite the serious blow. Of the nearly 100’000 servants I controlled, she alone killed close to 70’000… And that isn’t all. It’s not just Alim, Mika, and the sages, old fiend.”
“Hm?”
“There is someone. Someone born normally in this world who developed without interference from those of other worlds, someone who easily defeated the demon-turned hero, someone against whom my certain death had no effect5.”
When Surtr heard that, his red eyes opened wide. He pulled up the corners of his mouth, as he was prone to do when he got excited, showing a demonic smile.
“The times… are changing! When all the evil gods are gathered in this place… or when the bloodlines have been eradicated… or when someone different appears…! Perhaps that one and that thing will come back to life at some point. Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha… Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!”
As she watched Surtr laugh loudly from the side, Samayel couldn’t help getting some kind of premonition, just as he had.
“On that note.” Surtr suddenly stopped laughing and turned to Samayel, showing no expression at all. “That one, the other god… where did they go?”
“Well… I can’t feel them anywhere in this world, so… couldn’t they have been sealed securely by someone else, just like we were?”
“…I‘m not sure. Well, at least I don’t think they’re dead.”
TL notes:
This is it, volume 13’s big reveal, after the author so spectacularly bungled the opportunity they had with Dace.
While the evil gods not being gone likely doesn’t come as a huge surprise, their circumstances do. First Samaeyl and now Surtr too being in a position where they can casually observe the protagonists’ daily lives doesn’t exactly paint a nice mental image.
Dace and Amon being the same person, who pretty much controlled all the events up to this point, with the likely goal of gathering all three evil gods in the statue, which will cause something world-shaking, is certainly also worrying.
Finally, we got some foreshadowing for the third evil god being lost and some other powerful actors who haven’t made their move yet.
Footnotes:
- This is the reason I changed Surtr’s slurs concerning Samaeyl in prior chapters. Although it says they are using avatars, so I guess it’s not impossible that the Demon God was originally male.
- Surtr addresses her with テメー/手前 (he kept using that during the fight, too) while Samayel uses 貴様. Both are very insulting forms of “you”, but since they clearly aren’t hostile to each other, I chose to localize it that way.
- There was another mention of her blonde, angelic hair here. I removed it since it was mentioned a few sentences earlier.
- It says Surtr in the original, which I assume is an error.
- She is either talking about Uruto (and the author forgot that it was Gilmars who fought the former hero), or all three SSS-Rankers, Uruto, Parasuna, and Gilmars.
