“The Black God… is in there?”
“Yep.”
Come to think of it, I don’t think Shuu had ever seen where Surtr was sealed. Or rather, he wasn’t able to see it.
“Woof…? This looks somewhat different from Gungnir…”
“Yup, this is the Grand Gungnir. To make it short, it’s a super-strengthened version of Gungnir.”
I rummaged around in my magic bag next to the spear. To bring that thing out.
“…Where did you get something like that from?” Rir wondered.
“It was made by my big br-…!?”
I hurriedly clamped a hand over Kanata’s mouth, when he was about to call me “big brother”. In front of Rir, one of my fans, I had to play the role of a girl.
[Listen to me, Kanata and Sakura… and you too, Shuu. I’m sure you noticed already, but I’m acting as something like a female idol in this world.]When they got that message, their faces showed perplexion. Shuu was the first to send a reply.
[You… I knew about your habit of crossdressing, but to go that far…][Yep. But at this stage, I’m not just crossdressing, I’ve become a genuine girl. My official gender in this world is ‘female’. Moreover… although I won’t strip and show you that, my little friend down there is gone.]
In the end, Kanata’s and Shuu’s expressions froze in shock1. During that time, I turned into Alim for real.
Kanata merely nodded with his mouth closed. Shuu was still frowning, while Sakura kept looking between Mika and me, likely wondering about our relationship.
“…Woof?”
“Right, what Kanata was saying; I handcrafted that spear. I have skills that let me do that.”
I explained what my brother had been trying to say to the beastfolk girl, who was the only one who didn’t know yet and thus had question marks floating above her head.
“T-That’s amazing…!”
“Right? At any rate, we need to get rid of the Black God now,” I told her as I took out the warp device, also known as the Jizou statue.
I carefully placed it on the ground.
“…Huh, is that Lord Jizou?”
Sakura, who had stopped looking between Mika and me, was the first to comment on the statue.
“Yup. If we put him in there, the Black God will disappear.”
“Is… is that true?”
“We’ve done this before, so I’m sure it will work.”
…Probably.
I pulled Grand Gungnir from the ground and held it horizontally.
“It seems like you can still talk, Surtr.”
“Yes, you’re right.”
“-!?”
In reaction to Surtr’s words, Shuu grabbed Rir by her wrist and pulled her behind him.
“C’mon, I can no longer do anything to you. No need to be this scared.”
“He’s not lying. Calm down.”
Maybe since my words had given him some relief, Shuu let go of Rir’s wrist. He then turned to Surtr… and spoke with a menace I had never seen him exhibit.
“Black God Surtr…”
“Yes, it’s all good now. I know you brought Rir back. On that note, you absolutely can’t revive that crappy king, you hear? We’ve made sure of that.”
“You damn…”
Shuu clenched his fists and was about to strike the spear when Rir stopped him.
“Woof, it sounds like he has already been sealed…”
“You’re… right.”
“It’s fine, not much was lost with that fool2. More importantly, sorry for borrowing your body. And thanks, this was the best one I ever had, you know? Still, your hair turned white as a remnant of MY possession… Oh well, it’s nothing to worry about.”
Surtr’s overly relaxed manner of talking likely smothered Shuu’s rage, so he only glared at him with a frown while still holding Rir’s hand.
“I‘m satisfied. Hey, Alim. Shove me into that thing already, will you?” the Black God told me in the most subdued voice since the beginning of our confrontation.
“Understood. Do you have any last words3?”
“Hm? In that case, I have some for you… Alim Nariwei. Just for you.”
Didn’t he have anything else to say to Shuu? Well, whatever.
I decided to listen to him, seeing he hadn’t killed Mika like Samayel back then. As a matter of fact, he hadn’t killed anyone important to me. Even so, something felt off about these final words.
“Be the strongest! You bested ME, so you should be the strongest! Don’t lose, ever. Not to the gods or some other chosen one… alright?”
“…Well, I can’t promise I’ll manage that, but I hear you.”
I stabbed Grand Gungnir into the Jizou statue, inwardly apologizing. Light shone where it had been stabbed into. Said light formed a circle and enveloped the spear. As we were watching, Surtr, in the middle of being swallowed up, spoke once more.
“Can I ask one last question? How many times did you use Reincarnation?”
Well, those are his final moments, so I can give him that information.
“531 times.”
“…Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha! I see, you are… a Levelmaker…”
Surtr muttered these curious words, which only I was able to hear, and then disappeared into the Jizou statue.
Level… maker…? Someone who… makes levels…?
Well, I am the level-up fiend, so it was probably inevitable someone called me that.
TL notes:
And that’s it for Surtr. Personally, I liked him as an antagonist. His main goal all that time was to get the best fight possible, but he was smart enough to manipulate people to get that fight.
Unlike Samaeyl and Mephistophales, he clearly held no real hate for the protagonists, and in another series, he might have stuck around to every now and then possess someone in the team for some fun sparring.
We also got a title drop for the first time, though we still have no idea what it means. Maybe the final evil god will solve that mystery.

- The original is 顔がものすごく引きつったものとなった. Thanks to Kemm for the explanation.
- This might be wrong. The original is いいだろ、別にあんなクソ野郎。 (“probably fine, (a) shi̲tty ba̲stard like that especially”). I don’t think he refers to Shuu here, since he talks rather respectfully in the next sentence, so it’s likely about the king.
- The original is 辞世の句 (“death poem”). Not sure if this is a normal expression for someone’s (spoken) last words.
