“Phew, that should do it.”
I had finished the strengthened version of the spear.
As for its name, I guess we’ll go with “Grand Gungnir”? Though that’s a bit of a mouthful.
It had basically the same abilities as my Divine Sword except for the mana absorption, and I also added a sealing function like the ones on the Hero’s Sword, Gungnir, and Droprot. I didn’t spend much effort on its appearance, although I did make it look a bit cooler than the original Gungnir.
The crafting time had been around 10 minutes. By linking the bracelets to the magic room, I tinkered with the flow of time, so I could make it quickly and keep the craftsmanship at a high level. Heh-heh-heh.
I turned the doorknob and left the room. Slowly and casually. However, out there, an astonishing sight awaited me…
“What in the world…” I murmured unintentionally.
It was a world of true despair…

“Oh, Ayumu, you’re done working!” Mika exclaimed, as she closed in on me with a smile.
Her smile was angelic, but when I looked at the devastation, I couldn’t help but feel some fear. Still, her cuteness overwhelmed it.
“Ah, Big Bro… Mika-nee didn’t need our help at all, you see?”
“As expected of my older sister!”
The two kids followed after Mika, not trying to hide the surprise on their faces. It was clear that there was no longer any sense of urgency concerning our foe getting stronger.
“Ah-ha-ha, at any rate, Mika, didn’t you go a bit too far?”
“Is that so? I thought it was appropriate,” she lightly replied.
Sure enough, her everyday clothes already raised her stats, and then she’d put on the bracelets too, so it likely had been inevitable. Still, I think freezing over a lava zone is a bit excessive.
The magma and everything in this realm had turned to ice. On top of everything other than the four of us and the magic room being encased in magical ice containing the light attribute, things also had been covered in snow. The giant magma shape enveloping Surtr had been blasted away by some means, and in exchange, he was now trapped in a block of ice, with the grin still on his face.
“How in the world did you manage to encase Surtr, with his body made of fire, in ice?”
“Hm? I froze the fire, you see? My spells contain the light attribute, so it seemed easy enough.”
Oh, she’s got a point there. If we had used this from the start, it probably would’ve been easier1. I should repent about that later.
Well, even with everything, it hasn’t even been 20 minutes since Mika and I got here, so timewise we should be fine.
“Ayumu~, praise me~.”
“Well done, you did more than enough.”
“Eh-heh-heh.”
She hugged me, nuzzling her head against my chest. Even after causing a bona fide natural disaster, she was still adorable.
The other two looked at us, as if it was the most normal thing in the world. They had only been surprised at the start before I went to craft the spear. We still hadn’t told them we were dating, so they could’ve been a bit more shocked.
“Here you go, it’s the Grand Gungnir.”
I shifted Mika, who was still clinging to me, in my arms, and handed Kanata the new spear. He took it without paying much attention to what we were doing.
“Amazing, just holding it feels different.”
“Heh-heh, that’s because your big brother made it!” I boasted. “You can’t compare it to other weapons you find here.”
“True, also…”
Kanata, Sakura, and finally Mika and I, looked where Surtr was still trapped. The moment we did, the ice started to crack.
“Gah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! You guys are amazing! I‘d never have dreamed of being overwhelmed this badly, even when using this body plus Ragnarök!”
Surtr, who confirmed his defeat quite happily, emerged from it. Maybe it had been impossible to freeze his flames, after all. Still.
“Alright, Kanata, throw it!”
“…Yep.” Kanata readied the spear.
Surtr, still grinning – a truly happy grin this time – made no attempt to dodge. He merely went to his knees and let out some gleeful noises.
“GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” Kanata yelled loudly and… threw the spear with all his might.
The weapon, imbued with his power, flew at blinding speed, piercing the even now grinning Surtr’s abdomen. Maybe because he had thrown it at a specific angle, the spear passed through Shuu’s body, then stabbed into the block of ice and came to rest there.
There was a moment of silence.
“This was fun, you know?”
Those were Surtr’s final words. The moment he said them, Grand Gungnir hummed, the ground shook, and everything was swallowed by light.
TL notes:
And thus, after a total of 28 chapters (although not all of them were about the fight), ends the battle against Surtr.
While I wrote what I did in chapter 373, and way too much of it was just trying out stronger and stronger attacks without making much of an impact on either side, I like the fact that Mika was the one who properly defeated him in the end. It also gave us a chance to see what some of Shuu’s and Kanata’s SS-Rank spells actually do.
