The moment Surtr yelled the word “Ragnarök”, a snap echoed through the empty sky together with a blast of terribly hot air.
Right, this is most likely something similar to Samayel’s Armageddon. We should’ve sealed him quickly, after all.
I messed up, really bad.
“Kanata, please take Sakura’s and Mika’s hands and get ready to escape whenever.”
My brother looked perplexed.
When his tendency to freeze up hits, he looks cute in a way that fits his age. But right now, I need him able to act.
“You said ‘Mika and Sakura’… W-What about you, Ayumu?!” Mika yelled.
“I’ll-”
I was about to give her a reply, when my gaze was drawn towards Surtr’s weird behavior. The magmalike cracks carved into Shuu’s possessed body started to wriggle and move, spreading from his hand into the empty air.
…That is probably Ragnarök.
The cracks quickly and densely spread through the air while I was pondering that, looking as if they might split at any moment, and expanded in the sky. When they had widened to a diameter of about five meters, Surtr formed a fist, raised his arm skyward, and struck the crack.
*Crunch*
A sound, which shouldn’t occur when hitting air, echoed. The cracked empty sky started to break apart, and on the other side, something red became visible. I had no clue what was happening.
Both Kanata and Sakura, who were trying to grab each other’s hands, and even Mika who’d just called out to me, found their eyes drawn to it.
“…I didn’t want to use that. But you didn’t leave ME any choice, you know? You surpassed the evil gods… indeed, you’re stronger than beings commonly classified as gods. As one of them, I must put a stop to you.”
Surtr grabbed the sky, something that should be impossible, widened the red hole and the fissures two to three times with cracking sounds to make it easier to enter, and then went through.
This was probably a different dimension. A space summoned by Surtr’s secret technique.
“This is it, the Black God’s – MY – trump card… RAGNARÖK!”
It happened the moment Surtr displayed his grin. The world flipped.
When it felt as if the rotation had ended, the floor had become hot. Moreover, it was such heat, if we hadn’t put on several layers of fire resistance, we might have burned and melted from our feet up.
I looked down. Where the island should have been, I could see a reddish-brown surface with orange lava gushing out.
I looked up. The sky was red. Not the romantic red of an evening, but an ominous color. A mixture of lava and blood that’d feel at home in a fight to the death.
I looked at my surroundings. The surface at my feet continued until the horizon, only interrupted here and there by spouting flames and magma, and bright red mountains.
It felt repulsive, like looking at a world after the apocalypse. It resembled the pictures of Venus I’d once seen on TV, or at least the parts I could see were at that level.
Other than those things that made up Ragnarök… indeed, there stood Surtr. Behind him was a crack like the one I’d seen earlier. On its other side was the normal ocean. In other words, we had switched places unnoticed. It looked like everyone, including me1, had been moved here. My stock of Gungnir’s, which were stabbed into the ground, was starting to melt2.
“From this position… everything within several kilometers has switched places with Ragnarök, the world of the end,” Surtr started explaining, although we had never raised a question.
I see, I can probably think of this as a world that is advantageous for the Black God.
“I‘ll tell you this in advance, you cannot send messages to people outside of this world. Much less is it possible to affect anything in the outside world from this place.”
During this simple explanation, I noticed the crack leading to the outside world disappearing. We could no longer leave. From what he said, teleporting outside was also impossible.
…To be honest, I didn’t want anyone but me to be caught up in this3.
“Surtr, I’m here to keep you company, so won’t you let the others leave?” I asked the Black God, who honestly was the most talkative opponent I had faced so far, but he shook his head in reply.
“Unfortunately, I can’t do that… I don’t want you to leave this place. I‘m sure you’re capable4 enough to fight while protecting the girls, right? Oh, I guess you’re also a girl, at least for the time being.”
How rude! I am working as a female idol, so that “for the time being” was unnecessary! I’m a proper girl… wait no, I’m a boy. That’s right. Still…
“In that case, how can we leave this world?”
“It’s simple. You have to defeat M-”
When the Black God had gotten that far, a straight line instantaneously ran through Shuu’s body. I had slashed at him, obviously.
Footnotes:
- The original is 俺以外 (“excluding me”), but Alim was moved there, too, so I assume it’s an error.
- The original also mentions the airplane starting to melt, but that one was already destroyed in chapter 369.
- Then why not use your Zone and get everyone out before the crack closes? Seriously, the guy never learns.
- The original is ツェェ. I didn’t find a translation for this or the variations I could think of, so this is based on context.
