“Geez… that guy’s the worst!!”
Sakura was furious.
“…You’re right.”
While Kanata had known that Loukis was the type of person to hit someone who made a mistake, he was still angry.
“To think he’d hit a girl in the face!!”
“Yes. And from what I could see, he even did it with all his strength.”
Indeed, Loukis had made use of his full attack power stat when striking her. And his stats were those of an average A-Rank adventurer.
While Dace had a high defense stat, she deliberately didn’t use all of it1 and kept it to a level where she just barely wouldn’t die from the blow, in order to keep Loukis’ anger at bay. Though no one had noticed she’d done that.
“*Huff*… *huff*… Grr… Hey Kanata, the thought of Rir being in front of that man together with Shuu is giving me the creeps.”
“I get that, but Shuu is with her, so I’m sure he’ll keep her safe.”
“That’s true, I guess.”
Kanata tried to calm Sakura’s rage by stroking her back. She nonchalantly took his hand and placed it on her head instead.
“If Mr. Loukis really…” Kanata started. “Oh, hang on.”
“Hm?”
Still stroking Sakura’s head, Kanata closed his eyes, made a grasping motion with his free hand, and focused his attention on the room. A few seconds later, he opened both his eyes and hand. On his open palm, there were lots of sticker-like objects.
“Look at that, tons of listening devices.”
“Woah…”
“So, to continue where we left off. If that foolish king really won’t send us home and betrays us, or if we simply decide to stop working with him, we can escape via teleportation, together with Shuu and Rir.”
“Hm… that’s true.”
It happened the moment Sakura agreed with Kanata’s suggestion. Someone knocked on the door to their room.
“Who might that be? I’ll go get it.”
“Alright.”
Kanata stopped patting Sakura’s head and went to open the door. On the other side were Kyrian and Kruzel. Once she saw that, Sakura came to the entrance, too.
“Huh, did something happen to the two of you?” Kanata asked.
“No, they let us check on you,” Kyrian replied. “Right, Kanata, mind if I borrow Sakura for a bit?”
“Huh?”
“Don’t worry, it’s just for some talk between women.”
Kyrian turned to Sakura and winked at her. The girl could guess what she intended.
“U-Understood! Sorry, Kanata, I’ll go with her.”
“Eh… sure.”
“We’ll be back in 30 minutes. Until then, you can fool around with Kruzel,” Kyrian told the boy and then left for someplace else with Sakura in tow.
Kruzel and Kanata, who’d been left behind, looked at each other.
“…They just left us out to dry, didn’t they?” Kanata commented.
The warrior suddenly grabbed the boy’s shoulder, with sorrow in his eyes.
“Sage Kanata… It appears your own training method proved more effective than mine! Even a glimpse would be fine, but I’d love for you to teach me, if possible…”
“Ah, erm, in that case, I’ll tell you about the importance of levels while Miss Kyrian and Sakura are talking…”
“Right, you absolutely have to!!”
Kanata and Kruzel left for another room.

Sakura and Kyian arrived at the room where they had been chatting before. Kyrian was grinning.
First things first, Sakura asked the woman about what she had been worrying about.
“Erm, Miss Kyrian. You’re all right, aren’t you?”
“What do you mean?”
“Uhm, after you fought with Kanata, did Mr. Loukis do anything to you…?”
“No, nothing in particular comes to mind.”
As they were talking, Sakura checked the warrior’s body for any recent injuries with Clairvoyance (all while apologizing inwardly). Although the woman certainly was covered in scars, none of them looked new. Sakura gave a sigh of relief. Furthermore, she had learned that her own chest was slightly larger than Kyrian’s.
“Ah… erm, I see.”
“…? More importantly, Sakura. After we talked back then, did you make any progress with Kanata?”
“Uhm, yes,” Sakura replied bashfully. “Thanks to you… we started going out with each other. Eh-heh-heh.”
“Oh~!? That was faster than I thought… So, how far did you go?”
In her excitement, Kyrian leaned forward as she waited for the details.
“We kissed about two times…” Sakura told her haltingly, while her face turned red.
“And then, and then?”
“We’re sleeping in the same bed, and he pats my head.”
“And after that?”
“T-There’s nothing more! That’s as far as we got!”
After hearing that, Kyrian crossed her arms in satisfaction.
“Hrm! Well, at your age, that’s probably normal.”
“Y-Yes…”
“I’ll tell you just to make sure, but if you’re going to do the deed, you should know that the law of this kingdom forbids it for people under 13 years2! Well, you both are 14 years old, so you should be fine…”
As she heard that, Sakura’s face turned as red as an apple, and she hurriedly denied Kyrian’s allegations.
“We… we won’t do anything like that for now!”
“I see. How about going into the bath together…?”
“W-We won’t do that!”
“How nice to be so pure.”
After that, Kyrian posed several questions to Sakura about her relationship with Kanata, while keeping a smile on her face. For each of Sakura’s answers, she showed a grin. Finally, Sakura decided to ask the woman a question about the latter’s love live instead.
“…R-Rather than me, how are things for you, Miss Kyrian?”
“For me? I already have a man. We married when I was 25 and have been for two years, though we still have no kids. After I lost to Kanata, he held my hand when I was in the recovery room… that’s the kind of man he is. Heh-heh-heh.”
For once, Kyrian seemed a bit bashful.
“Incidentally, he’s the librarian of this castle3, and I got to know him when I borrowed romance novels from there- Oh, it’s already been 30 minutes. Lord Loukis will call on you in a short while, won’t he? You should go back.”
“Yes… see you later. Also, erm, good luck to you!”
“Hm, I wish you the same!”
Sakura returned to her room. Kanata had already come back at that point, and the two kids spent the 30 minutes until they were called upon, enjoying each other’s company.
TL notes:
It’s nice that Kanata and Sakura developed such a good relationship with Kyrian and Kruzel, even though the latter was rather antagonistic at the start. Still, it’s weird that everyone’s putting up with Loukis’ antics. My best guess is that the kingdom is absolutely reliant on the sages and without the royals they lose access to those, so they just have to grit their teeth and bear with it.
Footnotes:
- Huh, so you can decide that even for stuff like defense, which should be a passive effect.
- One more reason for Alim and Mika not to move there.
- 25 seems pretty old for a pseudo medieval society. I also like how she’s not one of those typical “I won’t marry anyone weaker than me types”, though having a kid in her line of work might still be hard.
