It was the day after reuniting with Shuu, and Kanata and Sakura had come to meet with Loukis. It was to inform him about their dungeon clear.

“Oh-ho… Then, would you mind telling me the details? What kind of magic beasts were there… and what items and other things did you obtain?”
“Of course.”

Kanata stood in front of Loukis, took out the best-looking corpses of monsters that appeared in the dungeon, and presented them to the king. Of the bosses Huginn and Muninn¹, he only brought out the heads. He also explained what kind of subspecies each of them was.

“Hrm, understood. What about the treasures you found?”
“They are the necklace, and the sword Sakura is currently wearing.”
“Oh-ho… tell me the details about those as well.”

Kanata then gave an account of the magic items and other things they had found, changing the details ever so slightly to better suit his needs.

“The recording… is finished. Alright. Until you return to your original world, you can keep those two legend grade items. Then… shall we move on to you showing us what power you gained from your training?”

Due to Loukis’ demand, the two kids were taken to the place within the castle grounds, where the knights performed their training. They were also joined by Kruzel, Kyrian, and others².

“Hrm… alright, Kanata, Sakura. With your current equipment, have a mock battle against Kruzel and Kyrian.”

As soon as the king said those words, the two knights wordlessly readied their weapons. Kanata glared at the king for just a moment, before immediately softening his expression and replying to the man’s order.

“Erm… Mr. Loukis, if you just want to see our power, there’s no particular need to fight those two.”
“…No, it’s better to have a proper fight against someone… Even supposing your power proves too great, and you end up killing those two on accident, I won’t censure you for it.”

The minister and other officials from the kingdom, who had followed them, looked at each other in shock. Kanata’s and Sakura’s faces also darkened.

In this completely silent atmosphere, Kruzel was the one to raise his voice.

“Sage Kanata, Sage Sakura! Even if I were to die by your hand, that would merely mean that my power was insufficient! There is no need to concern yourselves with me!”

Kyrian also gave a nod and added to his words.

“I feel the same.”

“…Come on, Kanata, Sakura. You heard them. Do it!”

Roughly when Loukis gave that order, the kids were having a discussion via messages.

After the two kids silently nodded to each other, only Kanata brought out his weapon.

“I am ready. Only I will fight.”
“Hmph… that’s fine. Begin!” Loukis shouted.

The moment he heard those words, Kanata made full use of his quickness stat and performed the action of “teleporting behind the targets and hitting them with knife-hand strikes” in the blink of an eye. Without any chance to react, Kyrian and Kruzel lost consciousness. Sakura then immediately healed them from where she stood.

“Are we finished?” the boy asked.
“Hrm… Both Kyrian and Kruzel are powerful enough to defeat S-Rank magic beasts by themselves… For them to so easily…” Loukis mumbled with a look of satisfaction, after seeing Kanata’s strength. “To think he’d grow this powerful in just a few days.”

The kingdom’s big shots had also seen the boy’s power with their own eyes and seemed to be having various discussions. In the middle of this, Dace called out to Kanata.

“Ho-ho~! Still… that just wasn’t even 10% of your power, was it, Kanata?”
“What!? I see…!” Loukis exclaimed. “If you say so, Dace, it’s probably true.”

Kanata thought that it was unnecessary for Dace to bring this up. There was no other way now, he had to confirm her words.

“Yes. That is true.”
“In that case, show us your full power,” the king demanded.
“…That would end up with everyone here being caught up in it.”
“Then limit it to an extent so that won’t happen.”
“…Understood.”

Kanata asked everyone to step back a fair distance. Once he had verified that no one was standing closer to the target than him, he invoked an SS-Rank skill.

A gigantic magic circle expanded above the wide training area, from which countless black-glowing spears of differing lengths and sizes fell at extreme speed, as if someone had turned over a bucket of water. This was the SS-Rank skill [Utmost Continuous Darksteel Spear Summoning Magic].

As soon as those spears had stabbed themselves into the ground up to their grip, they vanished.
The rain of black spears continued for about five seconds before stopping and leaving behind a hole of enormous depth.

Everyone present, except for Kanata, Sakura, and a scant few others, had opened their eyes widely and their faces and demeanors displayed supreme awe. Loukis was obviously among them, and on top of that, a wet stain gradually spread on his pants⁴.

“Oh-ho… how incredible…”

Dace was the first to break the silence. The kingdom’s officials also started talking noisily.

“With this, we will win”, “What marvelous power”, “If this wasn’t his full strength…?”, and so on.

On that note, Loukis noticed that he had soiled himself and had already decided to make himself scarce.

“What do you think, Mr. Loukis? Huh? Mr. Loukis?”

When Kanata turned his head to the crowd to look for the king, he couldn’t find him anywhere. In the man’s stead, Dace replied to Kanata’s question.

“Ho-ho~! It appears that King Loukis went to make a record of what just transpired. He left for his own chambers. You are free to leave after this, my dearies.”
“I see, understood. But before we go… Sakura, would you mind?”
“Sure thing!”

Sakura stood next to Kanata and started chanting magic. The officials, who had been noisily discussing things up to this point, noticed that the girl was about to do something. Immediately after finishing her chant, the ground, which had been viciously gouged out by Kanata’s skill, was restored to how it used to be.

At this, the people present reacted, once more, with shock. Again, Dace was the first to raise her voice.

“Oh-ho~! What a magnificent healing skill… Ho-ho-ho…”
“We’ll be returning to our home, then,” Kanata told her.
“Hrm, I shall relay that. You won’t be staying the night, will you?”
“No, my apologies.”
“Oh, no, that’s fine. You are young, after all…”
“Ah-ha-ha, that’s true.”

Kanata and Sakura linked arms and walked back to the apartment they were staying at, showing everyone on what harmonious terms they were.

TL notes:
No big surprises here, except maybe that Loukis was perfectly happy to sacrifice two of his strongest knights just to see how powerful Kanata and Sakura have gotten. Judging from his reaction at the end, Kanata’s strength seems to be several magnitudes higher than expected. Either there’s no good records of how strong past sages were, or Kanata and Sakura (and Shuu) are the first to take advantage of the system to that extent.

2. The original is “other than Loukis, and Kanata and the others (in this case likely Sakura), Kruzel and Kyrian also went with them”. I changed it a bit, since, as we’ll see, a great deal of people other than those mentioned here also follow them.
3. Oh, someone finally remembered that mechanic. Though I somehow doubt that would work if the attack that reduces the target to 0 HP also destroys the body.
4. The original is more along the lines of “his lower half gradually grew wet”, but that makes it sound like he got aroused.
