“Woof~… Is this our apartment…?”
“Yep. It costs 90’000 bells per month. It’s apparently the second cheapest one they have here.”
“90’000 bells per month!? Woof, woof, woof…”

I had gone and rented an apartment. Surprisingly, I was right next to where Kanata and Sakura were living. It was thanks to that elf receptionist, who’d called Kanata and Sakura for us, that we were able to rent it without any issues.

While it included lots of facilities¹, it did cost a ton of money.
Well, we got more than 10 million bells, so that ain’t makin’ much of a dent in our fortune.

On that note, Rir was still trembling.

“Master… Master…! Will we really live here?”
“Yup.”
“I… I’m feeling so out of place…”
“Well, don’t worry too much ’bout that! I’ll go say hi to our neighbors.”
“Woof…”

I went to the apartment next to ours to give Kanata and Sakura my regards. The two of them were, once more, quite surprised. From the looks of it, they were happily eating pudding… Moreover, they apparently had too much of it, so they offered me two portions. It was only a little past 2 pm², so I gratefully accepted them.

“What are these jiggly things?” Rir asked.
“They’re sweets from my world… they’re called ‘pudding’.”
“That’s a weird name³, isn’t it?”
“You think so? They’re tasty, y’know.”

Rir hesitantly scooped up some pudding with her spoon and brought it to her mouth.

“Woof~… Its texture is just how you’d think from its appearance… It’s very good.”
“Right? That’s pudding for ya.”

We finished eating and tidied up. Then, Rir and I decided to talk about the future.

“Erm… since you managed to meet up with Kanata and Sakura… will you be returning home soon⁴, Master? If you do so, we’ll probably never see each other again…”

As she spoke, Rir rubbed her body against mine like a pet dog. Though her drooping ears and tail clearly communicated her loneliness. I gave her a reply while patting her head.
She’s fine with that, ain’t she? Don’t look like it’s uncomfortable for her…

“Nah, apparently, I still won’t be able to go home for quite some time. From what they said… I’ll need to ask the king of this country to send me home…”
“Oh, dear… That’ll be hard. I’m not sure how to put it, but the current king is a bit…” Rir said with a frown. “Well, at any rate, the timing is bad, I guess…”

I see… So, the people view him as a bad king.

“That king was apparently the one who summoned us.”
“Woof!? I wonder, what is he planning…?”
“It’s ’bout some black god? …He wants us to defeat it and-”
“Wha-!?”

Black god. As soon as she heard that name, Rir looked like she had seen a ghost and put more power in the hand with which she was gripping mine.

“The black god… why… something like that!?”
“What, is the guy this dangerous?”
“Woof… Dangerous doesn’t come even close… You… you won’t fight it, will you, Master?”

It seemed like Rir knew something about this so-called black god. But when I asked her, she was rather vague… From what she told me, she didn’t know anything except that he was “strong” and “sealed inside a spear by ‘Sages’ coming from another world.” That was all. Well, I did learn how they dealt with evil gods in this world, so it wasn’t all bad.

“That so? I see,” I commented
“But… if that’s true… then the black god really exists… That’s right, there are currently three people from another world, sages, here…”
“Well… it ain’t like I know when that’ll happen either. And in the meantime… uhm… y’know? I can stay at your side as your boyfriend… or somethin’.”
“Awoo… Master!”

Rir hugged me even more tightly and buried her face in my chest.
She’s so soft… Nope, we’re talking about serious stuff here.

I returned the wolf girl’s embrace.
It’s super embarrassin’… I ain’t used to how this feels.

After a short pause, I started talking again.

“So… Rir. What’ll we do from now on?”
“We should probably work towards becoming SS- or SSS-Rankers. If we do that, we need to start by turning in the SS-Rank magic cores.”
“Well… let’s do that later. We’re both exhausted, so let’s take it slow for a while. Like three to four days… Once we’re busy, it’ll probably get harder to just be out and about.”
“Eh-heh-heh… You do have a point,” she smiled at me.

Dang, she’s so cute.

“Woof… Nevertheless… Sakura is quite beautiful, isn’t she…? Kanata also has a nice face… and you’re rather handsome yourself, Master… Could it be that there are only beautiful people in this Erf⁵ place?”
“Huh?”

Me… handsome? Let’s not dwell on that for now. She got it all wrong… Those two are just special… If anythin’, what she said fits this world much more, don’t it…?

“Nah, I can’t speak for myself, but… Kanata and Sakura are simply abnormal. If you’re talkin’ ’bout how good-lookin’ people are on average, I’d say this world is quite a bit ahead, y’know?”
“Is that so? Huh.”

Afterwards, Rir and I took our time resting in the apartment to relieve our mental and physical exhaustion… and had some physical intimacy that stayed on the wholesome side. All while talking about going on a date tomorrow.

TL notes:
So, Shuu and Rir got a new place to live, and it’s even right next to Kanata and Sakura. Let’s just hope the walls have soundproofing…

I think it’s weird that Rir knows about the black god (enough to get frightened at the name) and the sages who sealed him, but never connected the dots with Shuu being from another world. In my opinion, this is a sign of the author not planning/thinking enough about what specific characters should know and how that affects their actions.

1. The original is 色々込みで (“includes various things”). This might also mean that more than just money was required for him to rent it, or that other facilities besides their apartment are included.
2. In the original, Shuu uses 八つ時, which is an archaic form to say 2 pm. This form was never used before, so I’m not sure why it appears here.
3. In the original she uses ぷるんぷるん (purunpurun -> “jellylike, jiggly”), and when Shuu tells her that it’s called プリン (purin) she’s surprised that it’s almost the same as the onomatopoeia she just used.
4. Wasn’t she present during the talk with Kanata and Sakura? Did she just space out the whole time?
5. Not the first time this is used, but I didn’t make a note of it before. Rir says 地球 (“the planet Earth”) but it’s in Katakana チキュー like a foreign word.
