The appraiser blatantly looked away at my words.

I currently wasn’t hiding my status at all. So I couldn’t help but wonder what he had seen. He probably saw that I was a Demigod, and that my stats were in the 4 digits. If he’d also seen Lullus’ status, then he probably would’ve acted as if he’d seen a ghost.

The closer I got, the paler the man became. I didn’t think he was bad-looking, though he probably had way more important things to worry about right now.

“You saw my status, didn’t you?”
“N-No… I didn’t.”
“Do you honestly think you can lie to me when I’m asking you a question?”

I asked with a mischievous smile. A Demigod’s body was quite convenient as I could always create the expression I wanted to manifest. If I wanted to, I could even make a calm expression as if I were enjoying the current situation.

Though the current expression also gave the impression that I was enjoying this as much.

“I-I did see it.”
“It’s not like I’m going to do anything to you just because you saw it. Though by seeing it, I believe you now have an idea of just what kind of an existence I am, correct?”
“I do! I certainly do!”

Poor thing. He was so frightened that he could barely speak. Well, he could think of it as punishment for exposing me as a Demigod. He wasn’t to blame, but he was still responsible for whatever happened as a result of what he had seen using the Appraisal skill that was bestowed upon him.

He was free to use it, but this came with the risk of him being exposed and then suffering as a result. If I were human, I might have followed strict rules, but since I was a Demigod, I didn’t necessarily feel bothered by it.

“As you may have already assumed, you are not to tell anyone about what has happened after my arrival and before my departure from here. Can you promise me that you won’t tell a soul?”
“Of course. But why are you, Lady Demigod, in such a place? Don’t tell me you know something about this request?”

His tone was strangely reverent, but that was to be expected when dealing with a Demigod. This just meant that he’d properly seen my status. And it also seemed like he knew something about this request. I had suspected as much, but just how much did he know?

At any rate, the appraiser may not have evaluated the Ancient Dragon scale because I was the one who brought it, but rather because I was the one who completed this request.

“Why am I here? It’s simple. I’m here to collect the spirit. I don’t know anything about this request. I just picked it up because it seemed fun.”
“The spirit? I thought that spirits were just fairy tales. To think that they exist…”
“I guess that’s the general perception of them.”

This now meant that the real question was whether the Mana they were purchasing would be enough to keep their machines running. If it wasn’t, things could escalate into a full-blown riot in the worst-case scenario. Of course, that was only a prediction.

“So I assume you still haven’t appraised my companion.”
“What are you saying, Master Finis?”

Lullus looked at me with an uneasy expression as I exposed her.

(Look here, Lulu. You should call me Big Sis here.)

While we were bantering, the man used his Appraisal skill on Lullus, and was once again left speechless. Now then, that was enough messing with him. All that’s left was to pick up the certificate and go home. Since I’d already set up a contract with him, neither Lullus nor I needed to worry.

Now, I wondered how this request would turn out. I could only imagine what lay ahead, but I had no idea how it would end. For now, I simply noted that some Collegium employees wore noticeably better-quality attire than others.

After receiving the certificate, I could directly go to the Collegium to collect my reward whenever I wanted. However, if issues arose, I could also go straight to the client to collect it from them.

So, on the scheduled day, I went to the Collegium to claim my reward. At the reception desk, I noticed a well-dressed woman standing with the receptionist. I wasn’t sure whether I was to refer to this female as a woman or a girl. She appeared to be the same age as I looked now, yet her sharp, upturned eyes made her even more intimidating than those around her.

“I have a bad feeling about this.”
“You do? I’ve already got the general gist of what’s going on. I’m sure it’s going to be a messy affair.”
“I don’t know the details, but that’s just what you’d call a bad feeling.”

If anything, though, I was bored and wanted something to happen. I didn’t get a bad feeling unless it was truly something terrible. I couldn’t use foresight to predict the future, after all, so unexpected things could always happen.

I wanted to keep my distance and observe, but the receptionist spotted me, so I had no choice but to head that way. Then, the girl beside her sniffed and scoffed.

“Hmph. You’re the one who brought these fake scales.”
“They’re real.”
“I don’t believe you. Do you even have proof?”

At first, I thought she was a refined young lady from a respectable place, but that didn’t seem to be the case. She spoke like a feisty town girl, her tone far from the polite speech I had expected.

She clutched the ancient dragon scale she had been handed over. If it were fake, it might have cracked under the pressure—but as expected of an ancient dragon, the scale showed no sign of breaking. And as for proof, I had it.

“I have the certificate right here.”
“What the hell is that?”
“This is a certificate proving that this scale is real.”

The girl took the certificate, glanced at it, then tore it apart with all her strength1.
