Made with otherworldly technology.

These were the results I got after using Appraisal on the black ball. Aren’t there a lot of items with the ‘made with otherworldly technology’ description? They were supposed to be from another world, yet here there were a ton of them.

The Heroes of the past seemed to have interfered quite a bit with this world.

Rather, the structure of the world today was created by those very heroes. It wasn’t simply at the level of interfering. Usually, a topic of discussion that would come up would be how much it was okay to interfere with a world following a reincarnation or a summoning, but it didn’t seem like the heroes had held back at all.

Also, when interfering, one had to consider the level of the world’s civilization, and this was true for this world as well. If I considered this, then this world was indeed meaningful.

However, maybe the Heroes captured the spirits because they had legitimate reasons for doing so. It was also possible that the world had been in danger when they’d been summoned here. Maybe their only choice had been to capture the spirits.

Besides, this had happened thousands of years ago. If one asked me if I’d be able to predict the outcome of my actions a thousand years from now, my answer would be a resounding NO. If this were in Earth’s time, it would’ve happened sometime during the B.C. era. It would be scary to think that the ante Christum1 people were doing things with the present people in mind. It was also scary to think someone was doing something for the people thousands of years in the future.

However, as a result of their actions, they had used magic that was originally not supposed to exist in this world and caught the spirits that weren’t originally supposed to be caught. And so, the people of this world took that uncertainty and began living comfortably by using the System provided to them by others. Despite not being able to fix it even if it broke. Despite not even understanding how it worked.

Maybe the heroes of the past had planned to release the spirits after a certain time had passed. I honestly didn’t know which was worse. The people of this world who adopted the System and turned a blind eye to the world, or the heroes who brought technology that shouldn’t have originally belonged here. From God’s perspective, the wrong ones would be the people of this world. And from a Demigod’s perspective, the offenders would still be the people of this world.

This was because I didn’t know what the heroes’ purpose was, so I couldn’t say anything about them.

Enough of the discussion about the key.

“I can take this, right?”
“As long as you’ve prepared a safe haven for me. Since I’m leaving, it is no longer of any use to me.”
“I’ll hold onto it for now. We’ll officially call it mine after I have taken you to your safe haven.”

I created a random bag and hung it on my waist. The sphere was so small that I could even fit it in my hand, so it wasn’t much of a hindrance. However, as I said that, I suddenly remembered—I was carrying something in one hand that, given my appearance, I really shouldn’t have been able to lift so easily.

“I would honestly like to take you right now, but first, I want to ask if it’s safe to leave my things here.”
“That depends on when you’ll come back. I doubt that anyone will be coming here today, but someone will surely come at noon tomorrow.”
“Then, I’ll leave this here.”

I put the head of the Beastmen leader in a cell, assuming I would return by the end of the day. What an awful feeling it was to carry a severed head around. There wasn’t any such thing as a Sanity Stat decrease, but still, it felt gross.

I had placed it in a specially crafted bag designed to contain the stench, which made it slightly more bearable to carry compared to leaving it exposed—but that didn’t make it any less disturbing. The former king, curious, asked, “What’s that?” to which I replied, “A head.”

That brief answer was enough for him to grasp the situation, and he didn’t ask any more questions. With that, we decided to head to the deserted island.

It must have looked quite surreal to the onlookers for a 14-year-old girl to be running with an old man on her back.

“I doubt that anyone would even be able to catch a glimpse of you running, Master Finis,” Lullus remarked.
“I guess you’re right. While I’m holding back, one has to be quite skilled to be able to follow me with their eyes.”
“In that case, it’s safe to say that the person you’re currently holding is not a master.”
“I doubt it matters whether he’s a master or not at this point. I’m just glad he’s asleep—it’s making things much easier. Thanks to that, we were able to bring him here.”

There was a house here, and I also made sure to set up barriers, gathered enough food to last him a few days and placed it in the storage room. I didn’t know when he would wake up, so I left a note before parting ways.

◇◇◇

After delivering the former king to the deserted island, we finally got down to business. It’d be great if I could retrieve the head from the cell and meet the king right away, but that would have to wait until tomorrow. For now, I decided to exit the Tree of Spirits so that I could enter from the front.

That way, I could inform the king of my return, and more importantly, he could prepare a room for me. Even though I felt confident I could stay comfortable without a room or even just being somewhere in the forest, I still felt most at ease in my room—perhaps because I was once Japanese.

Though the room this time wasn’t mine.

Tomorrow would mark the end of my stay in Viridis, which led me to wonder where I should head next. Fraus had the Light Spirit, Nigel had the Dark Spirit, and Viridis had the Wind Spirit. Given that I could somewhat leave the Nigel Kingdom to the heroes, the ones left were the Water, Fire, and Earth Spirits. I had a very bad feeling about this.

The Spirit of Light had been in a place specifically designed to let light in. The Spirit of Wind was placed in a high place inside the Tree of Spirits. Likely in a spot that saw a lot of wind passing through. Then what would that mean for the Spirit of Fire? Would it be placed inside an actual fire?

And the Spirit of Water? Would it be somewhere underwater?
