“You could say it happened around the same time Caeruleus summoned their hero.”
“I understand. So is it okay for you to refer to him as the Demon Lord?”
“Well, this way it’s easier to explain it to you, Fi.”
“You have a point. Thank you for looking out for me. But just in case, please use a different name for him.”

The Demon Lord title was already spread amongst the people, and being a former Japanese person, I too was quite familiar with the term. Just before I came here, there had been quite a few works in which the image of the Demon Lord didn’t necessarily equate to evil. And I could accept the image of a good Demon Lord. Having said that, I wanted God to refer to him with some other name.

“Among the gods, he’s often referred to as Zygos.”
“Understood. So, how did you know that Zygos had appeared? Didn’t you say something about only being able to survey my surroundings?”
“I was able to figure it out by tracking an overall number. To put it simply, although I expected the world to collapse, I didn’t expect it to happen at this fast a pace. It’s exceeding my expectations.”
“And I assume this has something to do with Zygos’ appearance?”
“Even though it’s on the verge of collapse, there’s no way an ordinary being can interfere so easily with the collapse of the world.”
“But since it’s Zygos, it might be possible…”

(Ugh… Why did Zygos have to appear now…? It doesn’t make sense for him to appear when the world is on the verge of collapse…)

I knew I wasn’t supposed to say this, being a Demigod and whatnot, but I genuinely hoped the heroes would defeat him…

Or, if he turned out to be the friendly type, that would be fine, but given the timing, it really felt like that wouldn’t be the case. His objective likely wouldn’t conflict with mine, but reaching Caeruleus just became a bit of a hassle. Besides, now there was a Hero in Caeruleus, so things wouldn’t just go smoothly.

“Understood. Now then, what did you want to ask?” I asked God.
“I said that I’d help those people out if they survived until the world’s collapse, but now it’s possible that they could die from the aftermath. So I was wondering what you were planning to do about it. It’s just that you seem like you haven’t given it any thought.”

“Now that you mention it, that’s true. Still, it’s my first time experiencing a world collapse, so I’ll leave that judgment to you.”
“Okay. I figured that you’d say that, Fi.”
“In that line of thought, God, didn’t they leave you with choosing which people they’d save?”
“To be honest, God doesn’t mind that. God just looks at the numbers and chooses mechanically.”
“I guess that’s how the Gods are even in Japan. It’s normal to leave things up to them.”

I couldn’t count how often people in Japan turned to the Gods for help in choosing.

If we used dice to decide an outcome, we blamed the goddess of dice. If times were tough, we left it up to chance, and I believed that many chose to walk the path of praying to the Gods. It was common to leave things in God’s hands.

If there had been no God, people might have just decided things using the ghost leg method or something like that.

“Maybe it’s better to have this level of involvement,” God said.
“People’s desires will never go away. No matter how much you give and give, they will still ask for more.”
“God has been trying to balance it so that it doesn’t happen, but I guess I should be more serious about it.”

Creating a world seemed quite tedious. Thinking back on it, maybe I shouldn’t have asked to become an official god so casually. While fervently praying that God wouldn’t turn me into a god of creation, I decided to ask him something.

“Come to think of it, what should I do if I end up meeting the Demon Lord?”
“You can do as you please. It does not have anything to do with me. It’s unlikely that he’ll be hostile, but it is not impossible, so do be careful. Now that I think about it, he might even end up being hostile.”
“What do you mean by, now that you think about it?”
“Well, this collapse can also be viewed as God not helping the world, right?”
“But it is… Well, whatever, I’ll think of something.”

This was still better than being told not to kill him or something. In the end, it didn’t seem like I could escape getting involved in this.

“Well then, do your best, Fi.”
“Understood.”

The communication from God was cut off, and I explained things briefly to Lullus. She looked a bit troubled after hearing the story.

“The Demon Lord… Why did the people have to push the world this far…?”

“At first, it was likely so that they could have it easy. After all, almost every person only cares that they lead a happy life. Also, even when you look at things from a group perspective, you can surprisingly only see what is relatively close at hand. At best, we can only think about what will happen during the next few years. In the process, the number of people who knew about the spirits became fewer and fewer, and those who did know continued to deprive the spirits of their power with the unfounded confidence that it was okay because it had been okay up to now. I believe that the source of the problem is the people of the past.”

“I guess that is so. After all, the ones who trapped us were the heroes from the past.”
“Oh yeah, about that. Do you want to hear what happened?”
“Didn’t you say you didn’t know what happened?”
“How should I say this? I can remember a lot of things now, but still, all I have from that time are estimates based on the situation at the time, so it’s not like it’s the truth.”

I had adapted so much as a god that I was now able to adjust my body and recall what had happened in this world. Before, I could only vaguely grasp at things, but now it was even better. As long as I existed in this world, I could more or less understand what had happened here.

Of course, I didn’t know the personal details of every individual; I could only describe the broader picture, how one nation fought another, how history shifted. So, it wasn’t hard to understand how things had come to be the way they were. As for the heroes who hadn’t originally belonged to this world, I couldn’t say much. But because the first heroes had endured so much, it was easy to recall the things from that time.

I had been thinking I wouldn’t bring it up unless Lullus wanted to hear it, but she looked at me and said, “If you don’t mind, please tell me what happened.”
