Everyone threw everything they had left into the fight, desperately trying to eke out a victory.
“Sword Mastery Art… Resplendent Rapid Bursts!”
Sorleon’s twin swords blurred as he unleashed a flurry of strikes, moving faster than the eye could follow. Each blow landed on Cthulhu’s head, slicing through many of his eyes with pinpoint precision.
A moment later, every cut exploded in radiant light, violently rocking the Great Old One’s head from side to side.
GHHAAAGHHHH—?!
Cthulhu let out a confused, frenzied roar—momentarily blinded and disoriented. But the reprieve was short-lived; in mere seconds, his eyes regenerated, and his vision returned.
“Now—Lightning Form: Eight Tachi – Purple Lightning Strikes!!”
Without giving Cthulhu time to react, Hinagiku launched herself into a furious spin. Her small frame became a blur of motion, thunder cracking through the air as her flame-clad blade carved a searing diagonal slash across Cthulhu’s massive form.
As she landed, she immediately burst into motion—dashing along his body and slashing repeatedly, each stroke leaving burning trails of destruction in her wake.
“Graahhh! Volcanic Magnum!!” In full Dragon form, Suzaku roared, his aura flaring wildly as he propelled himself forward in a fiery burst.
Volcanic Magnum—an advanced Blaze Form ability for one-handed swords—launched him like a blazing projectile. With his blade pointed forward like a drawn arrow, his entire body ignited, boosting him with explosive speed.
Every tentacle in his path was incinerated, and his sword pierced all the way into Cthulhu’s throat—an eruption of flames engulfing the boss’ head.
“Time to end this! Ultimate Scythe Art: Void Quietus!!”
Crim’s scythe became wreathed in devouring darkness as she activated her finishing move. With one powerful swing, she traced a crescent arc through the air—cutting from the top of Cthulhu’s head all the way down to his hip. A pitch-black damage marker split his body in two.
But she wasn’t finished.
The twelve spectral swords orbiting her responded immediately, following her strike with synchronized, successive slashes—each replicating the same trajectory, one after another.
Thirteen devastating cuts in total.
The sheer volume of damage drove Cthulhu to his knees.
Far above, six luminous wings flared behind Lycoris as she floated high in the sky. Their glow intensified.
“Everyone, stand back… Ain Soph Aur Bullet!!”
A colossal beam of divine light erupted from her rifle, tearing through the air before striking Cthulhu directly—swallowing him whole in a blinding torrent. Simultaneously, what remained of the boss’ health bar drained… until it hit zero.
“Did… did we do it?!”
Someone spoke, breathless with disbelief. Around them, the players dared to hope—they had actually done it.
But then… The ground split open. Dozens of monstrous tentacles burst forth from beneath, wrapping tightly around Cthulhu’s body. And then, as if time reversed, every single wound he had suffered began to vanish. His empty HP bar… started refilling.
“No… no way…?”
Even Lycoris, still channeling Ain Soph Aur Bullet from above, stared in disbelief. A cold dread settled over the battlefield, as if they had woken in a nightmare.
“A second phase?! After everything we just threw at him?!”
“Are the tentacles… healing him?!”
It was true. The tentacles surrounding him were regenerating his body—undoing the damage from Ain Soph Aur Bullet and every ultimate strike they had landed.
There weren’t many tentacles left, so Cthulhu’s regeneration was slower than before—but it was still enough to crush the players’ morale. After expending every resource, every last ounce of strength, seeing his health tick back up was devastating.
“No… it’s not enough!”
Cthulhu’s healing rate barely outpaced the damage being dealt. Even after Ain Soph Aur Bullet faded, a sliver of his health still remained.
“Tch… Don’t stop! Keep attacking!”
Sorleon’s voice rang out, desperation creeping in. As the divine light disappeared, he rushed in alongside the other players, throwing themselves at the towering monstrosity with whatever they had left.
But it wasn’t enough. They were barely keeping pace with his healing. What they needed… was one final, decisive blow.
No—there is something left.
Among all those who had already exhausted their trump cards, Crim still had one final move. But uncertainty lingered. Was now truly the time to use it? She looked around, hesitation gripping her—until a gloved, armored hand gently took hers.
It was Freya.
“Hey, Crim… if you’re unsure, I don’t mind doing it.”
“But… that technique… Are you sure it’s wise to use it now?”
Crim asked softly, just in case. Freya responded with a firm, unwavering nod.
“…Then shall we?”
“Of course. I’d do anything for you.”
“I see… Then, Freya— I shall take thy life.”
Freya’s steady gaze burned away Crim’s doubts. Taking a deep breath, Crim raised her Ragnarok Weapon—and whispered:
“…Transformation.”
She preserved just enough MP for a single spell, using the rest to amplify the size of her scythe. Ragnarok Weapon surged with unstable power, swelling as it consumed the last of her mana.
“…Grim Scythe!”
The weapon reached its critical state, absorbing everything. This was Crim’s final trump card—one that could only be swung once. But with one last buff, it could become something more… if she had Freya’s support.
“…Sorry for the trouble.”
“Don’t worry—but you owe me now, okay?”
Haha, sly, art we? Very well, I shall grant whatever thou dost ask… Now, let us see to the timing.
Crim grasped Freya’s hand firmly, intertwining their fingers. Freya watched Crim’s HP bar, waiting for the exact moment—and then shouted:
“EX Drive! Maiden’s Devotion!!”
Wings of soft light bloomed behind Freya, and glowing chains wrapped around their hands.
Maiden’s Devotion—Freya’s EX Drive—allowed her to share her MP with whoever she was holding hands with. Though it seemed underwhelming compared to others’ ultimate skills, it held a hidden potential when paired with her race.
“…Mana Fountain!”
Next, Freya activated her High Elf racial ability: Mana Fountain. Her HP was instantly reduced to 1—but in exchange, all of her MP costs became 0. Now, with their powers linked, Crim began her incantation:
“Abyss Magic 100: Ultimate Spell—Grim Reaper.”
This spell needed a full minute to charge. If Crim moved even slightly, the cast would fail. It was the purest glass cannon—tremendous damage at the cost of total vulnerability.
Normally, it was impossible to cast right after Grim Scythe due to the mana requirement. But now, with Freya’s unlimited MP flowing into her, she could do it—just once.
Seconds later, Freya’s HP ticked to zero from a poison effect, and her body began to vanish into light.
“Crim… the rest is yours now.”
“Yes. I’ll finish it—Grim Reaper!!”
Freya smiled and embraced Crim before dissolving into shimmering particles. Crim raised her weapon, now shrouded in an aura of absolute darkness.
Clink.
Ten seconds passed. A high-pitched sound rang out as the scythe’s aura grew denser.
Clink.
Another ten seconds. The glow became almost unbearable to look at—too bright, too heavy, too final. This kind of synergy between ultimate spells should’ve been impossible. It was likely dealing more raw damage than the game’s systems had ever needed to calculate.
Even Cthulhu seemed to sense it. Panic overtook his expression as he ignored all other players and hurled a tentacle straight at Crim. But a shadow intercepted it—Suzaku.
“Why…?”
“Hahh… You better not miss after making me work this hard, Demon Lord. It’s your time to shine—Dragonblood Hero Siegfried (approximation).”
“…I never miss. But I thank thee for thy help!”
Tentacles tore through Suzaku’s body, flinging him like a ragdoll. The damage was enough to kill him several times over—but he stood firm, shielding Crim. Crim gave him a nod of thanks, standing unmoved, waiting for the spell’s full charge. And then—
CLIIIINNNKKKKKKKK!!
A piercing tone shattered the silence. It was ready. Ragnarok Weapon now blazed like a second sun, casting golden twilight across the submerged ruins. Crim hoisted it over her shoulder—and prepared one final enhancement.
“…Blaze Blood—Noble Red!!”
The ultimate Hemomancy spell. Instead of mana, it consumed blood. Her own blood ignited, steam rising in wings from her back, a veil of crimson enveloping her form.
This is it. The true final strike—everything rides on this!
“GRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!”
Crim screamed, her voice raw and primal. The ground beneath her cracked and exploded as she dashed forward, flames and blood vapor trailing behind her like a comet.
Everything she touched disintegrated in her wake. Like a true harbinger of death, she soared above the battlefield—past her allies, past the chaos—ascending to meet Cthulhu face to face.
Her wings flared once, giving her lift— Then, with a single motion, she brought Ragnarok Weapon down in a sharp, final arc.
Nothing could stand against that blade. She cleaved straight through Cthulhu’s head. And in the next instant—all the destructive energy packed into Ragnarok Weapon erupted outward.
The weapon shattered. A towering column of light burst into the sky—so bright it turned night into day. For a moment, it was as if the sun had risen again over the Submerged City. And with it came the silent confirmation that the long, grueling battle was finally over.
Afterword:
(This is probably going to get quickly patched out, and players will just talk about it saying, “You could actually do things like this before.”)
