Someone once said that every storm eventually passes. Even though the minimap had once been dyed red and the situation seemed disastrous, the arrival of new players had begun to turn things around.

As enough time passed after the final wave, the overwhelming mass of tentacles started to recede, gradually cut down by the players until they were no longer a significant threat.

“Hahh… hahh… it looks like we made it through somehow…”
“Yeah, things seem to be calming down… phew…”

Crim was out of breath after the relentless fighting, now standing guard beside Freya as she focused on healing the surrounding players. Still, the battle hadn’t come without losses. Not everyone had made it this far. Roughly half of the players were just now returning from respawn points.

Elmir’s Silver Wings and the crowd of fans who had followed Kirisu Sakura like she was some kind of galactic fairy had gone off to different sectors—so Crim wasn’t sure of their status.

After hours of battle, everyone’s equipment—Lua Cheia’s included—was worn and dulled.

“Alright, should I start with Freya’s gear?”
“Yes, please.”
“Thanks, Jade.”
“Well, that’s what I’m here for. I’ll get it back into good shape right away.”

Jade, being more of a crafting-focused player, could cast Quick Repair, a spell that restored an item’s durability to half its maximum value.

Around them, other players’ gear was similarly in tatters, and their expressions showed exhaustion. But having survived the final wave gave them hope—and hope was enough to push them forward.

Either way, I can feel it—the end is drawing near.

There was one pressing concern Crim had been thinking about while making her rounds. Soon, it would be time to shift all their focus to Cthulhu’s main body. She opened her chat window and selected a specific contact.

“Ah, Nord Glacier? This is Lua Cheia. Call me back when you can.”

She was reaching out to the guild currently holding the front line against the main boss. Crim assumed they were still alive—but still, a knot of nervousness formed in her chest as she waited through several rings before the call connected.

“…That voice—is that you, Crim?”

A woman’s voice came through the receiver—bright, though tinged with exhaustion. Even through the background noise of battle, Crim immediately recognized it as Ernesta.

“Yes, it’s Crim from Lua Cheia. We’ve cleared most of the tentacles on the first floor.”
“That’s great to hear… We’re hanging in there, though we’re getting pretty worn down. Is everyone safe on your end?”
“Yes. A few tentacles still pop up from time to time, but we’re able to eliminate them quickly.”

Crim could hear cheers in the background—small victories, no doubt. But they all knew the real battle had yet to begin.

“Also…” Crim hesitated for a moment. “I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the debuff control units are almost out of mana potions. If we ration carefully, they’ll only last another hour at most.”

There was a noticeable stir on the other end of the call.

That was the critical issue Crim had been concerned about. Resources within the dungeon were finite—and they were nearly depleted. The players had pooled everything they had, especially mana potions, but after hours of fighting and constant debuff cleansing, the supply was nearly gone.

There were still two hours left until the raid’s time limit at 4 p.m.

That means the final hour will be fought without any way to replenish our resources.

She heard some clattering from the other side, and then Sorleon’s voice came through:

“I’m here now. I’ve been updated on the situation. I guess it’s about time to settle this.”
“Yes, that’s what I was thinking too. Then…”
“Yeah—we’ll lead Cthulhu to the large open area in the center of the city. You and your team can make one last sweep through the remaining sectors before joining us there.”

They both understood—this was it. It was time to face Cthulhu head-on and push his health bar down with everything they had.

“Alright, what should I tell the other players in the city?”
“I’ll give the orders myself. Just make sure you check on each group personally first.”
“Oh? Finally taking on the role of a proper general, are we?”
“Hah! I really wanted to leave all the talking to you—it’s more fun to watch. But I suppose it’s time to wrap this up properly.”

With those final words, the call ended.

Crim immediately returned to update her friends, and just as they were preparing to depart—

“…Listen up, everyone. I know you’re all exhausted, and I hate to burden you further, but as the general of this operation, the Guild Master of Nord Glacier, and the Black Demon Lord—Sorleon—I ask for your attention.”

Sorleon’s voice echoed powerfully across the entire battlefield.

It was likely thanks to a Magic Megaphone, a consumable item Crim had seen used a few times before. It seemed to be either a paid item or a common drop during large-scale boss fights, and allowed players to extend the range of their chat messages across vast distances.

“First of all, thank you—each and every one of you—for your tireless efforts in handling those tentacles. Without your determination and perseverance, we never would’ve made it this far.”

His eloquent words of gratitude caught many off guard. Some players looked a bit embarrassed to be praised so openly by the leader of one of the strongest guilds in the game. But the lightness of that moment quickly faded.

“And now… the time for delay is over. It’s time to direct all of our firepower onto the main boss—Cthulhu himself!!”

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. But truthfully, many had been waiting for this moment, aching for the final confrontation.

“I won’t tell you who should come forward and who should stay back to continue managing the tentacles. We’ve fought together long enough—you all know your strengths, and I trust you to choose your place in this final battle.”

There was conviction in his voice—complete trust in the players who had fought so hard beside him. And then—

“We’re running low on stamina, so we’ll hold this position. We’re counting on the rest of you!”
“Don’t worry, I’ll land some hits in your honor!”
“Here—take the last of our HP potions. It’s not much, but I know you’ll make better use of them!”

“When this is all over… maybe I’ll finally settle down and get married…”
“Don’t say that—you’re literally raising a death flag!”
“When we get back, drinks are on me!”
“Maybe I’ll find a peaceful farm to retire to…”
“Or maybe… we can actually finish this without needing to seal him away again.”
“Okay seriously, that’s enough death flags from everyone!!”

Laughter erupted among the crowd as they exchanged lighthearted banter, deciding who would advance and who would stay behind. And in that moment—perhaps for the first time in the game’s history—there was complete trust among all players present.

“We only need your strength for a little longer. All to protect her smile… no—”

There was a distinct clink of metal as Sorleon raised his sword. His voice rang out louder, filled with purpose.

“This is to prove that everything we’ve fought for together meant something—to earn the best happy ending for everyone, including the Chosen Child! Now, to arms!!”
“ “ “YEAHHHHHH!!” ” ”

A thunderous roar echoed across the first floor. Cheers erupted from every corner of the city—marking the beginning of the final stretch of their epic battle.
