Four hours had already passed since the battle began. It was now well past noon—approaching 1 p.m.

The number of tentacles had decreased dramatically, and for the first time, the players felt like they could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“Please be careful, gamers… The Great Old One Cthulhu is preparing the final wave!”

Lulu’s warning echoed through the battlefield—and a moment later, the ground began to rumble. Then, without warning, tentacles erupted from every direction, completely covering the city.

They were so numerous that the minimap indicators blended together into a single massive red blotch. Wherever they looked, there was nothing but tentacles.

“It can’t be…”
“And we were so close…!”

The players stared around in disbelief, voices filled with despair. Their maps had turned crimson, their vision was overwhelmed, and just as hope had begun to blossom—it was snatched away.

A heavy sense of dread began to spread through the ranks. But then—

“Why do you look so down?! Destroying the tentacles damages the main body too—this is the perfect chance to deal extra damage!” A young man clad in shining silver armor shouted boldly as he stood before the writhing mass of tentacles. Crim recognized him immediately.

“Wait… Is that Elmir?”
“Indeed! It may be presumptuous to say so, but we of Silver Wings, sworn friends of Lua Cheia, will fight to the very end!”

Elmir grinned as he responded to Crim’s surprised murmur. He and his guild raised their weapons high.

“Nothing has changed! We just keep cutting through them—one after another! That’s all we can do… All to protect her smile!!”

With that declaration, Elmir struck a heroic pose—

“I’ll help toooo! Chosen Child, I love youuuuuu!!”

—and then charged headlong into the horde, shouting his love.—and then charged headlong into the horde, shouting his love.

The rest of his guild sighed in unison. “There he goes again…” And without missing a beat, they followed him.

“That fool… He really hasn’t changed,” Crim muttered, half-exasperated. “And now he’s set his sights on Lulu? I guess no one is off-limits for him.”

Even so, sometimes a fool was exactly what you needed to break a stalemate.

“D-Damn him… He’s trying to get ahead of us!”
“I’ll go too! It was love at first sight!”
“Me too!”

One after another, men—and even a few women—shouted their love for Lulu as they dove into the sea of tentacles.

…Maybe their words came from baseless courage. But courage was still courage, no matter how ridiculous. And yet, there was someone even more skilled at motivating the masses— An idol.

“Awww, what’s going on over here?! But never mind that—hello everyone! I’m here too, your virtual idol, Kirisu Sakura!!”

From atop a tall platform, an unexpected group had gathered.

Standing at the center, microphone in hand, was a beautiful fox girl with baby-pink hair, dressed in a charming blend of kimono and gown. It was Kirisu Sakura, the same virtual idol who had once been the presenter for an official Destiny Unchain Online event.

“First up… Sound Booster, deployed!”

As she announced it, four massive speakers—taller than she was—materialized around her. It was a spell created through the fusion of the Singing and Magius Skills. The speakers now amplified her voice across the battlefield.

“Now then! Seeing how hard everyone’s working, I’ll treat you all to a concert! I don’t know what a R’lyeh is, but come on—this gloomy BGM’s gotta be draining, right? Who’s ready for something better?!”

Saying that, she turned the microphone toward the players.

In response, some of her fans immediately shouted back:
“Yeah, give us something better!”
“Huh? You’re really gonna sing for us?!”

Their voices were overflowing with excitement.

“Alrighty! You know what—given the situation, I might as well perform a brand-new, unreleased song I’ve been working on!” She grinned mischievously. “…What? My manager’s freaking out? Oh well—too bad! Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do!”

She stuck out her tongue in a cheeky gesture before strumming her guitar with vigor. The audience burst into laughter at her carefree attitude. Her bandmates exchanged uneasy glances, clearly concerned, but chose not to stop her and joined in without hesitation.

The Sound Booster spell projected their music across the battlefield—a striking fusion of high-energy rock with traditional Japanese flair, featuring instruments like the shamisen and koto.

“I’m pretty sure she’s a pro…”
“Actually, she sings better live than most real artists…”

Kirisu Sakura had long been known for her stunning vocal ability, often described as ‘inhuman’ by her fans. Her powerful voice soared through the air, painting vivid rainbows across the crumbling battlefield—an uplifting sound in a place otherwise swallowed by despair.

Her fans went wild, cheering at the top of their lungs. Seeing her perform live, and in such a dramatic setting, was beyond anything they’d ever imagined. Even the tentacles seemed to recoil at her energy.

And then… even more unexpected things began happening.

“Alright, let’s get this over with!”
“I just got off work—I’m playing from a bench in the park!”
“I ran to the nearest net café from my office!”
“Wait, why is Kirisu-chan singing now?!”
“Who cares?! This is our best chance to unleash our fury on those cursed devs!”

A wave of new players began flooding into the battlefield shortly after the clock hit 1 p.m.

“Ah… that’s right! It’s Saturday!”
“More reinforcements are coming!”

Lycoris quickly pieced it together, and Frey shouted with glee. The tentacles still vastly outnumbered the players, but…

“I want my summer vacation back, you greedy company!!”
“I blew all my paid leave on this event!!”

Older players—working adults who’d finally logged in—were now unleashing all the stress they had bottled up during the week. Fueled by pent-up frustration, they fought like warriors possessed.

For them, the battlefield had become the perfect outlet. Every tentacle was a stand-in for workplace woes, unreasonable deadlines, or corporate exploitation. And more importantly—they still had the stamina to fight. Little by little, the tide began to turn in the players’ favor.

“…Somehow, this whole scene feels slightly offbeat.”
“Yeah… but that just sounds like the players of this game.”

Crim and Hinagiku shrugged, sharing a resigned smile—then charged back into the fray, not about to let everyone else steal the spotlight.
