The fight against the extremely powerful Beelzebub was slowly turning into a war of attrition.
Multiple players lined up, trying to stop Beelzebub’s sword, but were easily knocked away.
Some of them were hit especially bad, and shattered into light particles as their HP ran out.
“Ugh… Don’t just block for the sake of it, make sure someone can perform a followup attack each time! She doesn’t have an aggro system so don’t get distracted!”
As frustrating as it was to lose allies, Crim continued giving out orders.
Then Beelzebub suddenly stopped in mid-air.
That meant she was preparing a powerful magic attack.
“She’s coming, everyone retreat!!”
Crim raised her voice, and all the players dispersed immediately.
Beelzebub watched that with an arrogant look as she chanted, almost like she was singing.
*”Eheheh, run and scurry if you can, Dark Prominence, The Rain!!”*
The sky began to glisten a moment later.
Those lights looked like fireworks, splitting into hundreds of shards…which took a sharp turn to start falling on the players like rain.
“Kyahh?!”
“Woah?!”
Multiple screams and cries came from all over the battlefield, together with flashes of light. While the majority managed to dodge or block, a considerable number was forced out of the fight.
…And eventually that hellish rain died down.
“…We made it through! Those in the rear lines, don’t worry too much about aiming correctly, just shoot as much as you can!”
Following Shao’s orders, a volley of arrows and magic flew in almost random directions, not really being precise but making it harder to dodge the attack.
Usually, doing that would be really inefficient in terms of MP, making it not an option.
But since aiming properly was already impossible here, attempts could lead to focused cases of friendly fire. In a way, spreading the fire was a far better way to score lucky hits, and the allies would know to watch out for that.
In the end…that proved successful, as Beelzebub’s HP was gradually chipped away, and by now only a fourth remained.
Then again, the biggest hurdle was getting across her Absolute Defense. Her actual HP pool was not that big.
*Just a bit more and we’ll do it.*
They were starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
*”This is fun, this is so fun! I…I can’t hold back anymore, I have to use all of my power!!”*
Beelzebub descended to the ground, her wings spread open as she held a hand forward, channeling a torrent of mana into a black sphere.
Her face also went back to her previous deadpan, as she muttered with reverence.
*”…Gamma Ray Burst.”*
An instant later various AoE indicators appeared in the battlefield, spreading out from her hand at a staggered pace. That was followed by a sequence of blinding flashes that crossed through the battlefield.
The players unlucky enough to be caught up in the first rays were turned to light dust before they could even scream, showing everyone else just how powerful that attack was.
Those flashes continued on, picking targets at random.
And yet, that was merely the energy that leaked while charging up, as the black sphere in front of Beelzebub’s hand continued to swell up.
That was not all. An enormous barrier with a blue glow appeared around her, while a disheartening countdown in bright red letters appeared.
«Final Absolute Defense»
«100,000/100,000 (2:47)»
Everyone’s gamer instincts were screaming.
This was a DPS Check… And if they failed, they would be wiped out.
And…this was the final trial of this long, long fight.
“Any who bear shields or defensive Skills, guard the rear lines at all costs, keep the attackers alive, even should it cost thee thy lives! And all others, strike without restraint… for thy lives shall be the final price we pay for victory
Crim’s rallying cry made the players focus again, and they let out a crazed cheer.
Everyone began to fire with everything they had, regardless of positioning. Many of them had also been present during the final fight in R’lyeh, so they knew what to expect.
*It’s alright, we’ll definitely win.*
There was still an important job left to do once they passed the DPS Check.
Until then, Crim would have to trust the other players, as she began to chant in preparation for the conclusion of this fight…
