For the mock battle, both Hom and Farah were allowed to choose training weapons.

The Legion’s standard arsenal mainly consisted of halberds and axes, but the armory also housed magic cannons capable of firing steel projectiles for long-range combat. Likely due to the ongoing Zersteller—Canalford Cup, the selection was impressively extensive.

“Magic canons are off-limits until you’ve completed firearm handling training, but anything else is fair game,” Mr. Tanutanu said, granting his approval.

Farah chose a pair of short swords, while Hom selected knuckle weapons designed for close-quarters combat.

“Master…”
“Yes, Hom?”

Just as the battle was about to begin, Hom turned to me with a serious expression.

“For this mock battle, I would like Lady Farah to give it her all. May I have your permission to proceed?”

Ah, so Hom truly wanted to test her own abilities.

“There are things that can’t be measured by aptitude scores alone. If Farah is okay with it, I don’t mind.”
“Even if you get hurt, I’ll heal you right up!” Alfe said with a cheerful smile.
““Lili-Lulu shall help too,”” the twins chimed in, holding hands with Alfe as they offered their assistance. It was reassuring to have their support, even though Ms. Matilda would likely step in if needed.

“Nyahaha! In that case, I guess it’s fine for me to go all out too.”
“Yes, please show me your ‘true power,’ Lady Farah. No holding back.”

Though she didn’t say it directly, I knew Hom was hinting at Farah’s Magic Eyes. Farah had only confided the secret of her eyes to a few close classmates, and Hom’s careful phrasing showed her consideration for that.

“If it’s Farah, I’m sure she’ll be fine, but the match will end the moment even a single attack lands. Got it?”
“Understood,” Hom replied with a delighted nod when I outlined the conditions for the mock battle, just to be safe.

Shortly after receiving permission for the mock battle, Hom and Farah climbed into their respective assigned Legions and began moving toward the arena.

“Nyahaha, I didn’t think this would happen so quickly,” Farah’s lively voice rang out through the loudspeakers attached to her Legion.

Through Ms. Matilda’s projection magic, the figures of Hom and Farah were displayed on the visual board for everyone to see. Framed as a demonstration, the mock battle drew a sizable audience—nearly the entire student body except for Class A had gathered to watch.

“Lady Farah, were you waiting for an opportunity to have a mock battle in mechas?”
“Pretty much. You’ve heard about my dad’s unit, and I got to pilot it a lot. But, y’know, fighting against actual people isn’t something an amateur can just jump into.”

That made sense. Even if one had experience piloting a mecha, fighting in one was a completely different matter. Opportunities like this wouldn’t come up without a structured environment like school. Not everyone had the kind of outlandish experiences I did—like being ambushed by the goddess Aurora.

“…So yeah, sorry for dragging you into this,” Farah added.
“It’s quite alright. I’ve been wanting to assess my abilities for the future, anyway,” Hom replied without hesitation.

Farah’s energetic laughter echoed across the training field. “Nyahaha! Looks like we’re on the same page, huh?”
“Indeed,” Hom answered, her tone just as cheerful.

While I knew from my past life just how devastating war could be, this era’s ability to transform mecha combat into a form of entertainment felt like a blessing. A powerful military force might serve as a deterrent to other nations, though I doubt the goddesses who had granted us this era of peace had thought that far ahead. Still, it was a peace I hoped would endure.

Considering the current state of the world, it seemed unlikely this peace would falter—unless, of course, something akin to the Human-Demon War happened again and the demons launched an attack.
