“…I see, so there was another intruder too. So he’s the one responsible for killing Jorg.”

Mira’s explanation quickly cleared things up for Esmeralda, who went straight to treating them. But something she said caught Mira’s ear.

“What? Jorg was actually killed?”

Her hidden Holy Knight had alerted her to Eagle’s intrusion, and had stayed in the cell with Jorg.
She would have known if anything suspicious happened there again, but she had not received any alerts.

“Yes, they actually got him.”

Despite that, Jorg had been assassinated. According to Esmeralda, it was like he had fallen asleep when he died.

Considering the situation, it was very likely the work of the man in the coat, which meant there had been a total of three different assassins going after Jorg. The only mystery remaining was how they avoided detection in such a secured place, especially considering a Holy Knight was standing watch.

Mira really wanted to know what kind of method could bypass her Holy Knight.
That was something the man in the coat himself could tell her, as she glanced over to him. With all his injuries, he was still conscious, glaring back at Mira like he was plotting something.

Before long, Esmeralda was done treating them, though she had only done the bare minimum.

“Well, they won’t be dying on us anymore. All of their remaining broken bones should be good enough after some bandages.”

There was a risk that they would attempt to break free if they were treated to completion, so Esmeralda left all their broken limbs the way they were, merely held together with bandages.

“Eugh…this is awful…”

It was Noin’s turn to see what happened. He also found the state of the two men deplorable.

Purgatory Blaze fire had finally died down in the training area, so he could move again without putting the guards in risk. His first instinct was to go check how the chase went, and then he went pale when he looked up and saw the Ashen Knight army.

“Bugh…eck…blegh… What in the world are those…gray ones…they even have different weapons…urghh…”

His face also twisted and contorted with disgust, as if he had been forced to chew on a thousand stinkbugs. There really was nothing more revolting than seeing that army evolve.
All of his theatrics distracted Mira and Esmeralda.

“This is the moment I’ve been waiting for…!”

Now that he was in slightly better shape, the man in the coat used his limited mobility to fight back.
He turned his head around, twisting it as far as it could go to bite onto something from his shoulder, pulling it out.
Then he turned to his captors, grinning victoriously as he announced, “Time to go to hell.”

“What was that? What did you do?”

Noin jumped forward, standing guard in front of Mira and Esmeralda.

“You still had more tricks left?”

Esmerald also looked around carefully.
That went on, five seconds passed, and nothing changed, leaving both Noin and Esmeralda confused.
That spread to the man in the coat, who slowly turned to Mira, so confused that a question mark could almost be seen atop his head.
Then she finally spoke, simply stating, “Too bad for you.”

“Just…what did you do?”

With a desperate look, he prodded Mira for more, and she grinned defiantly.

“All of the pent up spiritual power here has been released already! It’ll never blow up no matter what you try.”

She had sensed a small amount of spiritual energy released the moment he bit that thing, so she understood what it was. That was his last trick, a remote detonation signal for the Spirit Bomb.

Sadly for him, the bomb never went off, as Mira had been freeing all of the spirit power within it, ever since she snatched it away from Eagle. That was something only she could do, thanks to the Spirit King’s Divine Protection. Usually that power would run wild once released, but in Mira’s case, she was able to appease it.

So the man in the coat had never noticed that was happening, unaware that the Spirit Bomb no longer worked.

“No…that can’t be…that’s impossible…”

The man in the coat was very well aware of the power of raging spirits, so he refused to believe what he heard.

Just who was this girl? What else could the Spirit Queen do? Those questions began swirling in his mind, terrifying him, just as Mira paralysed his body with her Magic Eye.

With the two assassins wrapped up in Arresting Cloth, they headed back to the interrogation room.
When they got there, they found Alma and Kagura, sitting at the table and waiting for them.

“Welcome back! Woah, they look terrible.”

Alma’s face froze the moment she saw the two assassins being carried on the shoulder of a Dark Knight.
The worst injuries had been treated by Esmeralda, but the remaining ones still made them look like they had fallen to an active racetrack three times over.

“Eugh…”

Kagura also had to take a step back, then asking, “Grandpa, what experiment did you try out this time?” instantly figuring out what happened.

“Hm? What do you mean..?”

Those two contained invaluable information they needed to extract. If Mira made a wrong move and killed them, their whole plan would be ruined, so her actions were not ideal in the slightest.

Mira knew that and tried to play it off, but just looking at her, it was obvious she was lying.

Eventually Kagura had to say, “Well, at least it worked out, but you really should be careful next time,” giving up on the matter.

As far as the thrashed training area went, the guards would quite literally have to cover up and fill in the aftermath of her experiment. Completing repairs would cost a pretty penny too, something Noin already knew and was scared to think about more.

Whichever the case, the interrogation came first. The two assassins were tied and restrained, then Esmeralda healed their remaining injuries.

With their pain gone, the two assassins became rather lively and chatty. They were convinced that they would keep everything they kept secret no matter what. And then they fell asleep under Kagura’s spell.

It was finally time to start the interrogation.

“Well then…”

Kagura stepped back and Alma took her place to ask questions, which all received proper answers.

The man in the coat was called Garroba. As it turned out, he was one of the four leading figures of Ira Muerte, and the leader of their assassination and cover-up unit. Then he revealed all of the previous jobs they carried out, in all of Ira Muerte’s history.

Just like with Jorg, they were all terrible and inhuman stories. He could not remember everything clearly, but there had been at least multiple hundreds of people killed off, simply because their existence could be damaging to Ira Muerte.

Amongst those he remembered were also many of Alma’s acquaintances. All killed by Ira Muerte.

“This confirms it then…”

Noin muttered a distance back, and Esmeralda gave a short nod.
Mira just looked at them, having no idea what they were talking about, so Esmeralda had to fill her in.

A bit more than ten years before, Alma would regularly abandon her duties as Empress, instead going to hang out with a close friend, who was the daughter of a mid-level merchant.

But one day, one of her father’s biggest investments fell flat on its face. As a result, both her parents planned a double suicide, and Alma’s friend also ended up dying. That type of misfortune was not something completely unseen amongst merchants.

In the end, whether by good or bad luck, Alma was the first one to find their bodies when she went to visit them.

Seeing them like that was a shocking sight, but Alma was convinced that her friend and her parents would never take such drastic measures, even if all their investments failed.

Using her authority as Empress, she had the whole house searched and investigated. There were only very faint traces left, but it was enough to determine that Ira Muerte had been behind it somehow.

It was all tied to an alchemist that worked together with that merchant, who had successfully concocted a cure for a rare disease.
