Sunday came around, and Lua Cheia departed, soon finding themselves inside a dark cave.
“You know…I wasn’t expecting that Haru and her group would want to help too.”
“I know. They got here in almost no time after we told them, I’m really grateful for them.”
Freya randomly mentioned that, and Crim agreed.
While Haru went to the same school as them, she was a year ahead of them, and likely had a far more busy schedule, so they almost did not tell her anything.
But contrary to their expectations, she joined them right away together with Suzaku.
“Well, I just said we should be nice and come along, that’s it.”
“Actually, she’s the one who insisted on coming so we had no choice.”
Suzaku stared at the girl walking ahead of them, who had Rouge in fairy form sitting on her head. That was Da’at Criferd.
Those two girls had hit it off, becoming almost inseparable, delighting those looking at them.
They were quite the merry group, even as they went through a dark cave.
Also, they were not the only ones heading to the Fairy Village. Other members of the United Kingdom, as well as their allies in Nord Glacier had also gone ahead of them.
The guilds of the United Kingdoms were given a lot of freedom, so there was nothing holding them back from going ahead of the rest…but Lua Cheia did not mind either way, as they wanted to sightsee during their trip as well.
This cave leading to the Fairy Village started at the foot of a range of mountains, to the north of Weisswald.
It was a natural cave, housing an underground lake of crystal clear water, so it had likely been occupied by the ancient empire at some point.
Some of the pathways had been carved into the stone by hand, barely wide enough for two to walk alongside each other, but no one had installed any lights.
And yet Crim and the rest did not use any lanterns to light up the way, while walking at east.
Which was because…
“What is that glowy thing all the way down there?”
Hinagiku leaned over to look into the underground lake, wondering what she was looking at.
The water of the lake was extremely clean, but it was also so deep that they could not see the bottom of it.
All they could see was a greenish light coming from down there, bright enough to illuminate the whole cave.
“Ahh, that’s probably this continent’s leyline.”
“Leyline?”
“Yes, streams of energy coursing across the entire continent, which apparently all converge at the Fairy Village… They can be observed in a few locations, like this one, which are referred to as Leyline Points.”
“”Ohh…””
Hinagiku sounded impressed by Crim’s explanation, just like Lycoris who overheard them.
“Actually, our home, Castle Seyfert, is also a place like that.”
“Wait really?!”
“Is it really?!”
The two younger girls were surprised to hear that.
“Yes, it is. There’s this huge cavern under the castle. And there’s some rare types of liverworth growing there, so we try to keep it secret.”
“And that’s about it.”
Jade chimed in, and Crim just nodded along.
“I had no idea…”
“Master, I want to see it too.”
“Well, thou will have to clear a series of gathering quests for Da’at before obtaining permission to enter, good luck.”
“”Whaaat?!””
Crim chuckled as Lycoris and Hinagiku stared disappointed at her. She walked a bit faster, catching up to Frey and Ryunosuke.
“…Hm, how curious.”
“I know. Oratoria, the Holy Kingdom’s capital, is apparently also a Leyline Point.”
Crim replied with a troubled voice to Ryunosuke’s musings.
The Sacred City Oratoria, currently used by the Holy Kingdom Schwertrot as their capital. It was located quite close to the Starting City, being in a mountainous region to the north of the Caurelum Highlands. In the past, it had also been the head temple of the ancient empire’s religion, Yalcha.
That city was built in the center of an enormous caldera lake, and Crim learned that it was known as a Leyline Point as well while studying the continent’s geography.
…In other words, Castle Seyfert and the Sacred City Oratoria were capital cities connected through Leylines.
So far that was everything Crim had found out. Exactly what that meant remained to be seen.
“Yeah…I’ve tried to look into it too, but I couldn’t find anything relating to that.”
“I guess we’ll have to look for information elsewhere. At this point I wish we could get permission to look through the Yalcha Cathedral’s archives.”
Frey had not been able to find much either.
Some things were simply not possible. It did not matter that they were currently in a truce, that would be asking for a bit too much.
“And then there’s that…”
“There has to be some connection…”
Crim and Frey narrowed their eyes with suspicion.
“The empire’s capital, right?”
“We still don’t know how to get in there, but it’s definitely connected.”
The biggest Leyline Point in the continent, the yet unexplored capital of the ancient empire, sealed away in the center of the continent with no way in…
