The cave turned into a steep ascent, which they trudged along, and more or less halfway up the slope…

“Master, hurry hurryyy!”
“You guys should try to hurry up, this is amazing!!”

Setsuna and Kasumi returned from scouting the area ahead, their voices filled with excitement.

“Was it really such a striking sight?”
“Yes dear, to the point that I’m starting to understand why you enjoy sightseeing in VR games so much.”
“I see… I’m looking forward to it then.”

Sara was also with the scouts, and she went to talk with Ryunosuke, who was walking next to Crim.
It was an interesting feeling watching that married couple interact, but everyone got a last spurt of energy to get out of the cave…and before long the exit came into sight.

“Suzaku! I’ll race you to the exit!”
“Ah, you idiot! Don’t rush ahead of everyone else, you’re the weakest one!”
“Hurry up Suzaku, or we’ll leave you behind!”
“Not you too! Damn it, you can’t even fight!!”

With Haru and Da’at paying no attention to his warnings, Suzaku was forced to run after them.
The rest maintained the same pace, merely grimacing a little. Soon they were all outside, blinded by sunlight after being in the darkness for so long.

…What awaited them outside could be best described as a paradise.

Steep impregnable mountains and cliffs surrounded them, with only the area between them being a secluded plateau, where a refreshing breeze blew.
Short grass covered the plateau, with a multitude of flowers standing tall over it.
Colorful petals swirled in the wind, contrasting with the white snow of the mountains behind, creating a scene that could only be described as breathtaking.
There were also some broadleaf trees dotted around, which were not very tall.
Some of the trees had pink blossoms all over them, others were weighed down by purple colored fruits, others had reddening leaves… It was like all seasons coexisted there, in a wondrous view.

“This is so beautiful…but everything is all over the place too…”

Crim muttered in disbelief as she looked around, and in response…

*”Ahahah… That’s because we’re all just growing wherever we feel like!”*

A voice came from above them.

No one had noticed the arrival of that small figure.
It was just about the same size as Rouge.
Her body was largely exposed, only wearing a bandeau top and a mini skirt, and a pair of insect-like transparent wings flapped behind her. Her hair was a bright green, tied up into a pony tail, giving a clear view of her long pointy ears… *It was a girl the size of someone’s palm.*
In other words…

“”It’s a fairy?!””

The faces of Lycoris and Hinagiku, the youngest of the bunch, lit up as they ran up to the small girl. Setsuna also wanted to do the same, but she tried her best to restrain herself, which made her look cute in its own right.
And…the fairy looked quite proud of the reaction she had elicited, as she puffed up her chest. That was cute too.

“Umm, so who art thou?”
‘I’m Fia, I guess you could say I’m the boss of the fairies here. Nice to meet you, Spirit of the Night!’

Saying that, the little fairy girl…Fia, held out her hand to Crim.
The sheer size difference between them made Crim hesitate for a moment, before she held out her pointer finger…and Fia happily shook it up and down. That seemed to work well enough.

*”Anyway, I figured this is the first time you’re coming here, so I thought I’d explain a few things…but is that girl okay?”*
“Hm..? Wait, Rouge?!”
“Help, sister…”

Rouge cried, seeking help, as she…

*”Hey, are you a fairy from outside?”*
*”But she’s different too?”*
*”So she’s not a fairy?”*
*”But she looks just the same as us?”*

Many fairies, slightly smaller than Fia, had appeared out of nowhere and swarmed around Rouge.
Seeing the bind she was in, Crim went to her aid, and Rouge rushed to hide inside of Crim’s sleeve.
The fairies followed her, gathering around and saying *”Are you okay?”, “I’m sorry, come back out!”* and so on, worried that they had spooked Rouge. She peeked out timidly too, showing that she was interested in talking to them too, and was merely a bit overwhelmed.

*”That’s enough you all. You’ll scare off our visitors if you act all disorderly as always. Keep your distance for now!”*

All of the fairies said *”D’aww!”* in protest, but kept their distance.
Crim grimaced a little seeing that, while Fia flew ahead of them, showing the way to follow.

*…Somehow they seem like a lively bunch.*

The friendly fairies loved to talk, as they flew around the group constantly asking all sorts of questions.
Time seemed to pass in the blink of an eye with the inquisitive fairies as company… Until they reached a cliffside, as tall as the eye could see.

“Fia, what’s this place?”
*”Just step here and you’ll find out. Don’t worry, it’s completely safe!”*

Fia pointed to an area on the ground covered by a faint green swirl, and when they walked on it…

“Awawawah?!”
“Kyah?!”

Energy rushed up from the ground, sending everyone flying up into the air. Some cheered happily, while others, mostly the girls, shrieked as they held down their skirts.
Levitating like that was a novel experience for everyone, until they stopped right atop the cliff.

“Ohh… That was incredible, like a wind elevator!”
“C-Crim…I get it’s fun but please help mee!”
“Ah, Freya. Here, take my hand.”

Freya’s long skirt had become tangled around her legs, impeding her movements, so Crim had to take her hand help her on her feet.

“Th-That could be fun after I get used to it…”
“So that’s what levitating feels like.”

Frey was still a bit unsteady, and Kasumi was unbothered.
Seeing everyone’s reactions to a new experience also made Fia grin smugly.
…Only to quickly look remorseful.

*”Ummm… I’m really sorry about earlier. I promise they didn’t mean any harm. It’s just been a long time since we got any visitors, so they were a bit excited.”*
“It’s alright, it was a bit unexpected, but I don’t hold it against them. Still, thou art quite the talkative bunch.”
*”Ahahah, we’re all just curious about what happens out there. It’s been more than thirty season cycles since the last time someone came here…”*

At that moment Fia remembered something and scowled, clearly upset about something.

*”…Actually there was someone, a really vile person.”*
“…Who was it?”

Someone that could make a cute fairy like Fia look that way meant trouble, and Crim had a really bad feeling about it.

*”It was a druid mired in hate, she just gave me a really bad impression. And worst of all she kept going to the World Tree.”*

That description was a perfect match with the person Crim was thinking about…
