“Hot damn, did you rob a boss’ nest or something!?”

“It’s not that exaggerated. I just happened to get them from a quest this morning.”

“How are you planning to distribute these? If you sell them directly, they’d be worth quite a bit,” Nangong said hesitantly.

“Just keep the stuff you can use. You decide the distribution; I don’t need any of it,” Zane replied casually.

Seeing that Nangong still looked conflicted, Zane directly clicked **Accept Trade**. “Hurry up and click it. I’ve got something urgent to deal with.”

“Alright, if we get any equipment drops, we’ll keep it for you too.”

“Sure.”

Yalu led the Snowfeather Goblin tribe southward toward the Crimson Plains.

Meanwhile, Starry finally caught up to them after half an hour of travel. Thankfully, nothing had gone wrong. Over thirty goblins marched in order, maintaining neat formation.

Kanrel waved excitedly from afar the moment he spotted Starry. To ensure their safe arrival, Zane had left her there as insurance. After all, if wild monsters attacked the goblins midway, it would be a disastrous loss.

As for Zane, he swiftly made his way toward the Grayridge Plains. However, after circling through nearly half the entire map, he still hadn’t seen the Gray Wolf Alpha. The unusually mobile wolf had even caught the attention of several players.

“I can’t see that gray wolf’s level! It’s a rare monster, stop it!!”
“Let me check… holy crap, it’s a level 25 Gray Wolf!?”

Within moments, word spread among the players, and over twenty of them were chasing behind Zane.

“…”

Suddenly, a gust of wind surged from the right front.

Storm Claw!

An invisible claw strike, carried by a roaring gale, slammed into one of the players at the rear, sending him flying!

“Chief!” Zane exclaimed with delight, then his face darkened. If it died here, he’d have to wait another six hours for it to respawn!

“Haha, don’t worry. As long as I’m here, they can’t hurt you.”

Zane twitched his mouth. ‘Do you even realize how bad that sounds right now…?’

The news of the Gray Wolf Alpha’s appearance spread like wildfire. Before long, hordes of players above level ten were rushing toward the scene. After all, bosses had far higher drop rates than normal monsters!

Left with no choice, Zane raised his wolf paw and summoned Morthar.

After devouring four Diamond Lizards last time, its level had already caught up to his—level 25. Unfortunately, its rank was still stuck at Epic. But then again, if rank-ups were that easy, Unique-tier beasts would be all over the place.

Moments later, a beetle the size of a large truck materialized and landed heavily on the open ground ahead. Zane quickly scrambled onto its back and howled, “Awoo—!”

“Chief, get up!”

The Gray Wolf Alpha froze in place, staring blankly at the massive beetle, completely at a loss for words. And it wasn’t just him, the surrounding players were equally dumbfounded.

“What the hell is that thing!?”

Morthar easily shook off the stunned crowd, while the Gray Wolf Alpha was forced onto its back, trembling uncontrollably.

“Ahem… Chief, this beetle is called Morthar. It’s also my pet.”

Only then did the wolf stop shaking. “What…?” It took him nearly three minutes to calm himself down and regain composure. “I see now.”

“Let’s put that aside for the moment. I came here today because I have something important to discuss with you.”

“Oh?”

“I’ve been to Saintbloom Village, it’s a dead land now. I fear the undead will soon return in full force.”

“To the north of Saintbloom Village lies the territory of the Dark Faction. If we go there, we’ll only end up enslaved. To the west is barren wasteland, and further beyond is the Valley of Luminara, already taken over by Diamond Lizards.”

“I rescued a tribe of Snowfeather Goblins in that area. They plan to establish a new territory on the Crimson Plains. Perhaps you could move there and coexist with them…”

To Zane’s surprise, the Gray Wolf Alpha immediately nodded. “Understood.”

‘Huh? What happened to the pride of the wolf clan?’

“Our tribe is already on the brink of extinction. Even I can no longer withstand the assaults of those dreadful adventurers. We have no other choice. Besides, child, I believe in you.” The Gray Wolf Alpha raised its paw and gently patted Zane on the back.

Ding!

System Notification:S-rank quest “Survival of the Wolf Clan” has progressed to Phase Two: “Migration.”

Suddenly, hundreds of gray wolves materialized across the Grayridge Plains, every fallen wolf had been revived in an instant!

System Notification: You have obtained the title ‘Gray Wolf Alpha.’ You may command all gray wolves.

System Notification: You have learned a new skill: “Storm Claw.”
“Call for Reinforcements” has evolved into “Summon Wolf Pack.”

Warning: Current wolf count: 489/489. If total wolf deaths exceed 95%, the quest will fail, the wolf clan will perish, and new monsters will occupy the Grayridge Plains.

‘What!?’

A dense cluster of green dots suddenly filled the map.

System Notification: Current wolf count: 487/489.

‘Damn it! Not even a second of preparation? If I’d known it would start like this, I would’ve done this quest in the middle of the night!’

As he was thinking, three more wolves were killed.

‘No time to waste!’ Zane took a deep breath and howled with all his might, “Awoooo—!”

Summon Wolf Pack!

The green dots on the mini-map immediately shifted into combat mode, rushing toward Zane’s position.

The Gray Wolf Alpha, looking weak and weary, turned its gaze toward him. “Child, the future of the Gray Wolf clan is now in your hands. I… may not have much time left…”

‘Stop passing your legacy on your own, will you!?’

“What’s going on?”
“Why are there suddenly so many gray wolves?”
“They’re all running in that direction! Wait… what the hell is that? A beetle the size of a truck!? Am I seeing things!?”

Some players chose to stand back and watch, while others seized the chance to slaughter the defenseless wolves.1 The numbers were dropping rapidly.

‘No…at this rate, they’d all be dead before they even reached here!’

Opening the communication panel, Zane tapped the icon for Endless Sea and said urgently, “Sea! Bring everyone to the Grayridge Plains now and stop these players! Hurry!”

“Huh?” It took him a second to react, but he quickly realized how dire the situation was. “Got it, we’re heading back to town right now!”

After ending the call, Zane drew in a deep breath. This time, he was in real trouble.

“Morthar! Go save the wolves!”

The massive beetle spun around and charged straight toward the crowd.

Starry walked through the forest alongside the goblins. They carried various small weapons in their hands, and nearly every one of them had a short bow strapped to their backs.

Suddenly, a disturbance rippled through the woods.

“Liburi, go check it out,” Yalu said with a frown.
“Got it!” As the scout, Liburi nodded and stepped forward cautiously.

Just as he was about to push aside the bushes—

“Wait!” Starry suddenly felt something was off. An uneasy chill crawled down her spine; there was something dangerous lurking in that spot.

Startled by her words, Liburi froze for a second. Then, in the very next moment, a blinding flash of light erupted from the underbrush, followed by a deafening explosion.

-3379

The unfortunate scout goblin was blasted into the air, crashing down hard with blood streaming all over his body, he was gravely injured!2

Worse still, rustling sounds began to echo from all directions. From the bushes, up in the trees, and even behind the rocks, countless small and slender figures emerged.

“Heh heh, another bunch of idiots fell for it!”

Footnotes:

  1. Syl: Considering this is a S-rank quest, I’ll bet the system will issue another quest to the players to stop the wolf pack migration no? To up the difficulty and entice players to actually try to stop them.
  2. Syl: Gravely injured but not yet dead? With 3.3k damage? How tough is Liburi?
