The next day after the Puppet Sorcery class, we had no courses in the morning, only Field Training in the afternoon. While Combat Training is similarly done outdoors, Field Training entails more practical training activities, not just bodybuilding and combat.
The practical part apparently involves training in the mountains located within the academy grounds.

While we could do hunter work in our free time this morning, we decided to work on our task and find Munyechka. We tried going to her room earlier, but she wasn’t there, so after the morning homeroom, we’ll try visiting the Puppet Sorcery classroom.
We’ve been seeing our classmates every day, but since it’s only been a few days, everyone is still just beginning to settle into their own groups. With me only having small talk with Palra, Ailneige hasn’t attracted attention yet… I think. Well, Princess Leshimiiya is also in this class, and lightning sorcerer Alcrei frequently snaps at hero Juerd who he seems to hate the sight of, so the attention will probably stay with them until they calm down.

The princess actually seems to be interacting with every single one of our classmates, since even Palra mentioned Princess Leshimiiya during our conversations, which caught me by surprise. How do I say this? I’m impressed that Palra managed to hold a conversation with the princess.
Well, she did say that she was so nervous that she can barely remember what they were talking about, so maybe it’s wrong to say that Palra managed.
But since it’s the princess, she probably won’t get angry even with a little discourtesy.

Today, as with any other day, I’m talking with Palra at a healthy distance away from the rest of the class. To be more exact, I’m listening to Palra talking.

「Ailneige, did you take Field Training?」
「I did.」
「Thank goodness… I was starting to worry about what I’d do if I didn’t know anyone there…」
「Do you have classes where you don’t know anyone?」

To my inquiry, Palra stared at the far horizon and muttered, 「I have… yeah.」 Noticing the sadness in her expression, I stopped asking further questions and returned to the topic of Field Training.

「Belltina should also have Field Training, I believe.」
「Are you sure? Bell doesn’t seem to be the active type from what I see.」
「She likely wants to have as many options for the future, you see. That’s why I think she must have taken courses necessary for becoming a hunter.」
「That does sound plausible. After all, she’s always present for Combat Training, despite having a hard time from not having enough stamina.」

Belltina always says that she doesn’t want to work, but she does seem to understand what getting cut off from her family entails and also understands how becoming a hunter can serve as a safety net.
As long as you haven’t committed a crime, anyone is welcome to be a hunter. However, there is no assurance that you will be able to survive the lifestyle. Frankly, if we consider a ruler’s thought process, they’d probably prefer people dying as hunters than running to a life of crime. On the Hunter Guild’s end, they’ll certainly prefer their hunters to stay alive, but they can’t really afford to support each and every hunter. To begin with, many people become hunters for the freedom it offers, which makes it difficult to provide overly systematic support.

So if you want to survive in that environment, you need to be prepared for it. For hunters, mistakes can cost one’s life, but here in the academy, a mistake will only cost you a scolding at worst, so you can blunder as much as you like. Being able to safely accumulate experience is a valuable opportunity.

「That reminds me, Ailneige, have you ever gone to the mountains or forests for hunter work?」
「I have. Palra, you should be familiar with them as well, correct?」
「I was just following my father around, frantically trying to do whatever he said, so I honestly want some pointers for navigating through a mountain; do you have any?」
「At any rate, you should be good as long as you keep vigilant against threats. Getting ambushed by monsters is most terrifying, you see.」

In my old world, your footwork and stamina management might be the first priority, but in this world, it’s this. The people of this world have high physicality in general, so most are probably capable of crossing a mountain if we’re strictly speaking of physical capability. On the other hand, there are more dangers to look out for. While there are also threats like wild bears and boars in my old world, it’s not like there aren’t preventative measures against them, and they do avoid noises that could come from people. In this world, however, monsters are creatures that actively seek to attack people, so the noises will instead attract them.

「Keep vigilant… how do I do that?」
「I have my barrier, so I really can’t say. Goblins can’t kill me no matter how many there are, and even with D-rank monsters, I can handle them to a certain extent.」
「That’s amazing! But I don’t think I can mimic that.」
「You took this course precisely so you could learn, didn’t you?」
「That’s true; I just don’t have the confidence… I can understand the actual lecture, and, in hindsight, there’s a lot that somewhat reminds me of what my father and I were doing during our hunts, but…」

Normal students don’t really have any previous experience to draw on like her, and she’s free to practice her learnings in the upcoming classes, so there really isn’t much need to worry. Besides, while keeping vigilant is important, strong monsters don’t really appear in areas close to the royal capital, so being overly conscious might even be counterproductive.

「Well, what’s most important is to not die.」
「I see. I’ll make sure to remember.」
「Please do.」

I’d feel awful if Palra ends up dying, so I’d rather she stay alive if possible. Though I can’t really see this timid Palra jumping headfirst into danger.
As I replied, Ms. Claura arrived. There wasn’t any special announcement today.

Translator's Note

And that ends this update! With the homeroom finished, I guess it’s time for our girls to visit Munyechka for the second day in a row! Not complaining, it’s always nice to have characters our girls can be open with.

For this chapter, we got some time with Palra, and it seems like the afternoon Field Training course is going to be another class with our three girls together, yay~! Palra being so anxious despite her having basically lived in the mountains is relatable; you really never know if you’re prepared enough for something new. Also, it’s cute how she got relieved upon knowing that AinCiel and Bell will be in the same class; our poor shy girls need their friends.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
