「To be more exact, despite how technically and financially demanding it is, the dolls aren’t really that strong, or that useful, on their own—that’s likely the main cause of Puppet Sorcery’s unpopularity. Have you thought of what you could actually do with Puppet Sorcery?」
「I’m just hoping that we could use it for Ain’s body, I guess?」
「Right, you might have that goal in your case, but there aren’t many people like you. Having two souls inhabiting one body is a rarity among rarities.」
「You say that, but I’ve been together with Ain since I was born.」
To be precise, Ciel’s birth should have happened first, so I haven’t exactly been with her since birth, but pointing it out would be pedantic, so forget about it.
Talking about the happenings at Rispelgia isn’t exactly pleasant either.
「That honestly piques my interest, but let’s leave that for another day. Puppet Sorcery makes use of expensive sorceric tools in the form of dolls, which are not suited for straightforward combat. At best, it’s typically used to entertain children.」
「That’s a very niche usage.」
「It certainly is. And even people who can use it for play don’t really need it to entertain anyway.」
Saying so, 「Ogua, Mohmora, Palfor1,」 Munyechka casts a spell, creating a mass of water. The water then turned into the shape of the bird and began flying inside the classroom.
What was one bird of water eventually split into many, and, within a few minutes, there were several hundred small birds blanketing the entire ceiling.
The clarity of her magic power’s flow was one of, if not the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, and if I had to do the same, I’m not confident that I could achieve the same.
Ciel, fully powered and with my support, could probably do something similar, not out of precise magic power manipulation, but through the use of a large amount of magic power, so it’s not exactly the same.
Side note, the sight of the innumerable water birds delighted the small spirits.
「This kind of play would delight an audience more, you see.」
「Amazing. I don’t think I can do that at all.」
「Ainsel can probably do it, can’t she?」
「Really?」
『I’m not really confident. I’ve spent most of my time only practicing barrier and detection, after all.』
「She’s not really confident.」
「Is that so? I figure she should be able to do it with her capabilities.」
「She said it’s because she spent her time only on specific things.」
「Hmnh….」
Munyechka stared with a meaningful gaze. Her gaze feels like it’s going through Ciel and is directly focused on me, but I really hope it’s just my imagination.
Fearing any potential inquiries, I subtly guided Ciel to wonder why Munyecka thought of mastering Puppet Sorcery.
With no signs of knowing my true intent, Ciel inquired Munyechka with pure curiosity in her eyes.
「Munyechka, why did you choose to learn Puppet Sorcery?」
「Hm? It’s because I love dolls.」
「Is that so?」
「I’ve loved dolls since I was little, see. Due to that, my Job was also related to dolls, and after making and playing with dolls all the time, I grew capable of using Puppet Sorcery.」
「And eventually achieved Puppet Magic, right?」
「So it was the same case for you, then?」
Sharply reacting to Ciel’s words, Munyechka responded with her own question.
Considering that response, I suppose we can be almost certain that Munyechka has also achieved magic.
Now, normally this question should be answered with either confirmation or misdirection, but since Ciel was unfortunately not the one who had achieved magic, she couldn’t answer immediately.
『Can I?』
『I don’t mind.』
「Not me, but Ain. I can’t use magic.」
「Uh-huh, I see.」
Once again, Munyechka stares with a meaningful gaze. As someone attuned to sorcery and magic, Ciel—or rather, my—existence must be quite the curiosity. Two souls sharing one body, each independently capable of using sorcery. Ciel might even gain magic eventually. And while we haven’t told Munyechka, we have different Jobs as well.
Consequently, from an outside observer, Ciel may appear to possess two Jobs and even exhibit signs of magic usage. The fact that the soul houses both one’s magic power and Job could very well be a groundbreaking discovery. For an individual of Munyechka’s caliber, she might be able to glean a lot from just this information.
「For now, you’re actually Munyechka, right?」
「Ah, so you… or rather Ainsel knows that I’m a doll, does she? I am the real, genuine Munyechka. I suppose it’s fine to tell you this, but in exchange for gaining magic, I lost my human body and gained this puppet body. And I’m not sure if it’s because of that, but I consequently no longer have what’s known as a life span. I’ve been alive for a couple hundred of years, although I don’t know if “alive” is the proper word for it.」
「So you’re long-lived. Then do you know about Fii’s past?」
「I can’t clearly recall when we first met, but objectively speaking, it should be a long time ago. Though, it probably doesn’t feel that long ago from Fiiya’s perspective.」
「What kind of person was Fii back then?」
「She shouldn’t have changed that much, I think? She was otherworldly yet easygoing, but tended to take extreme measures against hostilities. Ah, but I have heard that she was more rowdy in the past.」
「She did say that she captured Tur.」
As Ciel chuckled to herself, Munyechka tilted her head in confusion.
I don’t think many know of Tur’s existence, and those that do probably haven’t been to the den since Khyturi was given a name, so it’s normal for her to not know.
Still, I’m surprised Munyechka casually shared that her sacrifice is the loss of her body. While I don’t think she has any reason to lie, she might be withholding an important portion of information.
Let’s set aside the speculation for now and focus on the conversation between Ciel and Munyechka.
「Who is Tur?」
「The white dragon at the den’s lowest stratum, you know?」
「You must be describing a true dragon, then. Thinking about it, that doesn’t sound implausible… To begin with, dens actually have a lowest stratum, huh.」
「She apparently caught Tur from somewhere and dragged Tur into the den.」
「That’s hard to believe, but I can’t deny that it’s possible with Fiiya.」
「Tur is the only dragon I know, but are there others around?」
For this update, it’s a bit funny how Ain and Munyechka are having a bit of a mind game with Ciel in the middle. Like, Ciel is somewhat clueless about how much the two are sneakily trying to extract any usable information from each other, because she’s curious by nature. I don’t know if it’s just a force of habit, or just bare minimum self-defense, but it’s so funny that both of them are doing the same thing. I guess they’re still gauging each other. We also learn that Munyechka is also really old, but with how old Fii seems from Munyechka’s perspective, maybe Fii really is something of a prehistoric being, lol.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
