The tricky part about taking down Fraus was First Princess Topersion. I wouldn’t go as far as calling the royal family of Fraus incompetent, but no one could match the princess, especially when it came to preparing for the future. So when we set our plan in motion, only Topersion reacted in any significant way.

However, it seemed the castle was in disarray, and she had no intention of resorting to force. Even so, just having someone watching us was enough to slow our movements. It felt like the final step might have been completely crushed.

On the other hand, if the princess hadn’t been present, we might have pushed things far enough that she wouldn’t have been able to respond, even if she wanted to. Or that’s what Monobe said, and I agreed with him.

So I began to move gradually, being careful not to let Princess Topersion notice. But the looming disaster that signaled the world’s collapse forced the princess herself to head to the battlefield to deliver a pep talk. This was indeed good news.

And even better was that the princess acted quickly. She was out of the capital in just three days after her audience. While she was competent, this time, her competence worked in our favor. As soon as the princess left, we sprang into action.

Of course, the actual work was done by subordinates and collaborators. Those ambitious nobles gave it everything they had. All we needed to do now was make sure the town’s chatter didn’t get to the castle.

Even if the evidence wasn’t enough to capture the royals and put them on trial, it was enough to incite the citizens. I honestly thought that sword proved to be incredibly effective. It was likely the very weapon used in the massacre of the villagers; how could it not be enough?

Still, it was hard to say whether it would hold up as valid evidence in this world.

Whatever the case, I was glad to have found the sword.

“I’m a bit concerned that no other swords were recovered… Did they forget to bring them back?”
“I did receive a report that the total number of swords used had returned.”

I quickly said, disputing Monobe’s words.

“Then maybe God played a prank on them? Either way, it worked out in our favor, so I won’t complain.”
“This isn’t something that can be resolved just by thinking about it.”
“Oh, that? I left it where it was.”

Only Monobe and I were supposed to be in the room. Yet, the sudden voice of a girl immediately put us on guard. We weren’t particularly strong, but we weren’t weak enough to be taken down by ordinary people. We could easily handle weaker-ranked knights.

I looked toward the voice and saw a younger girl standing there. People often told me I was cute, but I was no match for her. Not that I minded being inferior to other girls. Regardless, she was a cute girl. So flawlessly put together that I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me that God himself had put her together.

“What do you mean you put it there?”
“It means exactly that. One of the heroes dropped their sword, so I just picked it up, replaced it with a new one, and left the original one in the village.”

It was quite difficult to read her facial expression, but the girl spoke in a somewhat joyful manner. For a moment, I thought she might be insane, but then I reconsidered. If she was capable of walking in here unnoticed, then maybe she really could do something like that.

“Why would you do that?”
“Because it seemed fun. It did end up being used for something fun, so my experiment was a success.”
“Who are you?”

I couldn’t figure out who the girl was, so I asked her directly. I didn’t expect a straight answer, but I hoped for some kind of clue. At the very least, I wanted to determine whether she was friend or foe.

“You could say I’m God’s gofer. I’m God’s servant.”
“What do you plan to do with us?”

I didn’t know if she was telling the truth or not, but if she was, that would be a serious problem, so I decided to ask her intentions anyway. If she stayed out of our way, that would be enough. The girl who claimed to be God’s messenger chuckled and spoke.

“I’m not going to do anything about you in this life. I’ll do something with you after you’ve died.”
“After we’ve died?”

Was that supposed to be reassuring? Or was she saying we were going to hell or something like that?

“I’m just having fun seeing what you’ll do, so I’ll just observe you.”
“Can I ask you three questions?”

Monobe spoke to the girl. He was the better person to speak to her, given that his brain was sharper and he was more composed than I.

“Go ahead. However, I may not be able to answer.”
“That is fine. First, will you play a part in destroying this kingdom?”
“No. There would be no point now even if a kingdom or two were to disappear.”
“Second, will this world fall apart?”
“It will. How much longer do you think it will last?”

So, in the end, this world was going to collapse. No wonder she didn’t care if a kingdom or two were to disappear. I also suddenly remembered some intel about two eastern kingdoms being in a difficult situation. If that was true, maybe one or both were already gone.

“Third. No, actually forget it. Given your first two answers, there’s nothing that can be done.”

Monobe shook his head. He was right, but I was still a bit curious about what would happen after we died. If it came down to it, we could either die trying to destroy this kingdom or die doing nothing. If the girl in front of us really wasn’t going to interfere, then we might as well carry out the plan and bring down the kingdom in a final act of defiance.

The girl blinked and said, “I see. But still, let me take the liberty of answering your third question. Half of the reason I came here was to do precisely that.”
