I have a feeling that by the end of the course, we’ll be expected to run 30 laps within the period. But for now, the requirement is just 15 laps. With physical reinforcement, Ciel could probably manage 60 laps without issue.
「Ailneige, can I run alongside you?」
「Feel free to do as you please.」
Palra quickly caught up, wanting to run beside us, but honestly, it’s probably best to run at your own pace.
◇◇◇
By the third lap, some students were already a lap behind. Most of them seemed to be the sorcerer-type, and many were already gasping for air.
Additionally, those who started late—including the boys who approached us earlier—rushed ahead and overtook us. However, by the time we reached the tenth lap, some of them had collapsed by the side of the course, clearly out of stamina. The rest were visibly struggling with labored breathing.
At this point, most of the sorcerer-types had taken a break, and roughly a quarter of the students had dropped out.
The boy who had smugly overtaken us earlier by two laps was now on the verge of collapse.
Meanwhile, Ciel still has stamina to spare for not only the remaining 5 laps but even 50 more if she wanted to.
If this was me, I wouldn’t be able to run this much. Our stamina and endurance should be the same, so it must be the difference in pure athleticism and pace management.
『We’re just running in circles, but it’s surprisingly fun.』
『I don’t think I’ll ever feel the same enjoyment you’re feeling right now.』
『Ain, you don’t like moving your body, do you?』
『You’re probably right about that.』
On the other hand, Ciel probably loves moving her body. Not that it wasn’t obvious by this point.
Back in my past life, I did a bit of strength training to support my singing, but I do remember how lacking my stamina was.
『That reminds me, I didn’t expect Palra to actually keep up for this long.』
『She did mention how she would enter the forest when helping out, so she should have good stamina. Her Job might play a part in it, too.』
By the twelfth lap, things became a bit chaotic. Those who couldn’t run anymore had moved to the sides to avoid getting in the way, while some who had burned out early on tried to jump back in.
There were probably a few who could have completed the 15 laps if they’d managed their pace better. I saw several students with frustrated expressions, realizing too late that they might not finish in time.
Among the students who continued running without rest, Princess Leshimiiya is doing her best. From what I can see, she might be able to barely finish 15 laps in time.
Rynaetra is matching the princess’ pace, not showing any signs of fatigue.
The red-haired Rulinia has already surrendered and is resting by the side.
「Ailneige, you seem to have a lot of energy to spare.」
「So do you, Palra.」
「You’re right, but I’m just a bit surprised… Is it because you’re a hunter?」
「Stamina is necessary, after all.」
「How much more do you think you can run?」
「If it’s just this, I can keep going forever.」
「Hunters are so cool.」
She said with a sparkle in her eye, but since Palra can keep up with Ciel, doesn’t that also make you cool?
「Come to think of it, what do we do after finishing our 15th lap?」
「We’ll stop running.」
「Will that really be okay?」
「If it isn’t, then all of them over there will be in trouble.」
Hearing Ciel’s response, Palra answered with a wry smile.
With that exchange, they completed their 15th lap. There are still 5 minutes remaining, and there are some students—perhaps already done with their laps—stretching their bodies here and there.
As Ciel stopped running, Mr. Ishparht approached us, raising a hand in greeting.
「You don’t seem tired at all.」
「That’s because I’m not.」
While Ciel answered, Palra hid behind Ciel, taking distance from Mr. Ishpart.
「Long time no see. Incidentally, why are you even here?」
「Long time no see. As for why… I want to be able to handle a weapon to some extent.」
「Ah… makes sense. So basically the same reason those guys are in this course.」
He nodded as his gaze fell on the exhausted, sorcerer-type students.
「Regardless of the Job, it’s not a bad idea to learn weapon handling.」
『He can tell that much, huh.』
『At any rate, he’ll immediately figure out that we have a ‘Sword Dancer’ related Job anyway.』
That’s true. The greatest reason we took this course is to learn the basics of swordsmanship, so this will likely be discovered sooner or later.
After all, without using Dance Princess’ abilities, Ciel wouldn’t even have any idea how to swing a sword. Apparently, she’s been completely reliant on her Job’s swing correction up until now.
It is a Princess Job at the end of the day, so even if you’re fully reliant on it, as long as you can manifest its powers properly, you can still get decent results. However, even with that, it’s still better to learn swordsmanship if possible… according to Ciel. Being a Song Princess, I don’t understand it that much.
「Weren’t you a sorcerer-type?」
「That’s right, but not in terms of my Job.」
「…I see. Your weapon of choice?」
「A rapier with ornate adornments.」
Sword Dancer-type Jobs can apparently make do with any kind of sword, but the rapier is a popular choice. For Dance Princess, as long as it can be used in dance, any object or weapon can be utilized to some extent, so it’s technically not a lie.
Ciel’s answer was mostly meant to hint at her apparent Job, but I guess it doesn’t matter as long as it works.
Seemingly picking up on the hint, Mr. Ishparht let out an audible 「Ah~…」 and rested a hand on his head.
「I honestly don’t think we have anyone capable of meeting your needs, though…」
「As long as I can learn the basics of handling a sword, I can manage the rest myself.」
A typical swordsman can fight decently even if their combat style doesn’t match their Job. The Fool’s Gathering mostly consists of these kinds of people. However, sword dancing is different, and people typically don’t do it unless it’s aligned with their Job. As a result, there aren’t many who can teach it.
I say that, but there is someone teaching something as niche as Puppet Sorcery as a specialized course in this academy. Does Munyechka count as just ‘one’? Maybe.
「Alright, as long as you’re fine with that.」
「Our period will be ending soon.」
「Whoops, see you at our next meeting then.」
With their conversation finished, Mr. Ishparht raised his voice and announced, 「The period’s about to end!」
Seeing this, Palra let out a sigh of relief. Still, even though she hid behind Ciel, given how small Ciel is, she was barely concealed. Well, if she’s satisfied, I suppose that’s all that matters.
And that ends this chapter! Continuing on from the previous update, our cast have finished their laps without any issues, while the smug boy from before was struggling. Sucks to suck, boy.
It was funny how our teacher Ishparht is clearly interacting with Ail/Ciel as a peer, like “We both know you’re overqualified for this.” “Yeah, but how to use weapon tho?” “Okay, fair point.” Meanwhile, our shy village girl Palra is hiding behind the clearly smaller Ailneige, adorable.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
