Since the basic-level Combat Training course consists primarily of both hunter and knight aspirants, there’s a wide variety of people attending.
The male-to-female ratio is roughly 7:3, and there’s also a fair number of sorcerer-like students present. Princess Leshimiiya is also here, along with the red-haired Rulinia. However, both the Hero Juerd and the lightning sorcerer Alcrei are absent; perhaps they’ve skipped over this basic course?

Having both of them here could cause problems, so I’m frankly grateful for their absence.

Additionally, Rynaetra—who should already be qualified for the intermediate course—is also present. Is she simply being thorough with her bodyguard duties?
Rynaetra and Rulinia seem to be butting heads, but perhaps it’s best to ignore them. The princess looks a little troubled, but I’m pretty sure Ciel isn’t the type to step in.

As I scanned the area for familiar faces, Palra came running up to us.
I’m starting to see her as a friendly dog.

「Your outfit looks so cute, Ailneige.」
「Thank you. Yours looks easy to move in, Palra.」

How should I describe it? Her clothes consist of a long-sleeved shirt and durable-looking pants—far from what you’d call fashionable.
Still, they’d definitely defend against scratches in the forest and look easy to move in, so there’s nothing wrong with them. In fact, most other students are dressed similarly.
It’s Ail who stands out more with her clearly sorcerer-oriented hunter gear.
Perhaps because of that, a group of several boys approached with smirks.

They give the impression of neighborhood brats. They don’t seem to be nobles.

「This isn’t a place for a midget girl like you.」

The one at the frontmost sneered. Behind him, voices chimed in with 「That’s right, that’s right!」, but Ciel appeared to ignore them completely, showing no reaction whatsoever.
Palra, on the other hand, looked panicked and kept sending uneasy glances to Ail.

Perhaps interpreting Ciel’s silence as fear, the boy added, 「There’s no way you’ll make it as a hunter, so don’t come back,」 and left with a satisfied huff.
Um… So why did he even come here? Did seeing a small girl put a damper on his excitement for combat training or something? And what made him assume she’s a hunter aspirant to begin with?
From his cocky attitude, he must think highly of himself, but if he were really that capable, he wouldn’t be in a basic course. That says enough about him.

Looking around, Ciel is definitely the smallest student here, and Palra’s timid demeanor probably didn’t help.
Was that just random harassment? Ciel doesn’t seem bothered at all, so I’ll just make a mental note of that boy’s face… not that I’ll necessarily remember it.

「Ailneige, are you okay? I’m sorry…」
「About what?」
「Um, about those people just now…」
「Hmm? Ah. No need to worry about them. I’m used to it.」
「I-I’ll do better next time!」
「—? Sure, do your best.」

It seems Palra actually wanted to step in earlier. Considering her personality, that’s probably hard for her, but, personally, the sentiment is enough to make me happy. Though Ciel clearly doesn’t understand what do better means in this context.

「Alright, gather around. It’s time to start.」

A familiar-looking man clapped his hands loudly to call the scattered students to him.
Leaving the walking to Ciel, I tried to recall where I had seen him before, and a certain event popped into mind.
He was one of the proctor hunters during the practical combat exam.

「My name is Ishparht. Technically, you’ll have several other teachers in this period, but I’m the only one here today, so the rest will introduce themselves another time.
Despite how I look, I’m a B-rank hunter, so I don’t think anyone has any complaints, right?」

Mr. Ishparht looked around with a broad grin. In contrast to his words, his face suggests that he’d be amused if someone did complain.
Unfortunately for him, while a few students expressed impressed cheers in hearing that he’s a B-rank, no one appeared skeptical.

『What does he mean by several other teachers?』
『I’m guessing there’s a different teacher for each weapon? If I remember correctly, Mr. Ishparht used a sword.』
『Ah, now that you mention it, in that case, maybe that spearman is one too. But why aren’t they here today?』
『They’re probably not needed.』
『Not needed? I see.』

Ciel seems convinced for now.
I do have an idea for why they could be absent, but we’ll find out soon enough once class starts. No point in speculating too much.
I believe there’s something more important to do before teaching detailed combat techniques.

「For now, I want you to run around the field. Run along the outer edge of this line until class ends. We’ll decide what comes next based on that.」

As I anticipated, Mr. Ishparht announced today’s plan. First and foremost, build stamina. That’s essential.
Looking at the ground, there’s actually a line drawn around the training field, making it resemble a school track.
Personally, I don’t mind running. But judging from the dissatisfied air among the students, plenty of them don’t feel the same way.

「Why though? Teach us how to fight!」
「First, I need to see if you’re even fit to learn. Show me how much stamina you’ve got. The goal is at least 15 laps by the end of this period. Now go!」

That sudden start was probably to shut down any further complaints. These types of people usually take too much time to persuade.
A third of the students, including Ciel, began running immediately. Another third, with Palra among them, followed in a rush. The rest stood around looking clueless.
Mr. Ishparht just smiled, not bothering to push them to run. Well, they’ll probably start eventually.

One full lap seems longer than a typical school track, so 15 laps should be over 10 kilometers, I think?
Given we have about an hour, that’s surprisingly manageable. Though for the old me, that would’ve been a nightmare. Back when I was in university, I could barely run a kilometer, let alone 10.
Still, for this world, shouldn’t the standard be a bit higher?

『Can I use physical reinforcement?』
『Probably better not to. You’d likely finish in no time if you do so.』
『Something like this is nice every now and then.』
『For today, just pace yourself to finish the 15 laps within the class period.』

And that ends this update! This is probably the most fellow Class A classmates our girls has had for a single course so far, which is understandable since it is basically the equivalent of a Gen. Ed. course.

It was honestly cute how Palra wanted to step in, but girl, we all know you’re still a bit too timid for that, you adorable shy extrovert you. Meanwhile, Ciel’s cluelessness strikes once again, lol. We also have a new teacher introduced, sir Ishparht who was one of the proctor hunters during the entrance exam.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
