There was so much information that I didn’t even know where to start processing it. One thing I could say was that if this status was real, then what Fini had said was probably true. Especially considering her Demigod title. Sure, a Demigod might be less prestigious than a true god, but she was still a god. And if that was the case, it wasn’t surprising that she knew the collapse of the world was inevitable.

To test things further, I decided to also use Appraisal on Fini’s companion, Lullus.

Yeah… I didn’t really know what to say. I could just laugh. But now was not the time to be laughing. Michihisa looked at me, hoping to figure out what was going on. I had no idea how to explain it.

“I think we can trust what Fini is saying. For starters, we won’t be able to run away if we antagonize her.”
“She’s that strong?”
“Her stat average is over 4000.”
“4000…”

It was no wonder Michihisa looked crushed. After all, even the legendary heroes were said to have an average status of just 250 when summoned. If my assumption was right, then the maximum stat limit in this world was 999. So 4000 was without a doubt God’s territory.

“She also has a Demigod title.”
“Demigod…”
“And the one that’s holding you right now is apparently the Spirit of Light.”
“……”

At last, Michihisa went silent, but that wasn’t my fault. I had only told him the facts.

“So, I hope you understand the situation now.”
“Yes… I’ll believe you.”

Michihisa nodded helplessly. That was expected. The fact that they had shown us this much clearly meant they had no intention of letting us leave alive. But something about it kept bothering me.

“We’re not planning on killing you. We just want to get that child.”
“Is it impossible to stop the world’s collapse?”
“Unfortunately. It was truly unlucky to be summoned to a world in this state. Truly.”

Fini replied to Michihisa, but something about it still made me uncomfortable. It felt like I could genuinely see how much she despised the actual summoning. Almost as if she’d actually been summoned herself.

And then it hit me.

Why had Fini stubbornly refused to let Michihisa call her Fini? Why did she know about the heroes, our classmates? Why did she consider the hero summoning to be such an abomination?

And then there was Fini’s status. I’d been so focused on the numbers that I had overlooked the real anomaly, her skills. Never mind the fact that the display seemed incorrect. Some of those skills were the same ones my classmates had. Hero and Sage, even.

In addition to the skills of the Hero and their companions, there were godlike abilities, and above all, the Contract skill1. I knew someone who had that skill.

“Although the world is collapsing, that is not something you two should worry about.”
“You’re Toriyama, aren’t you?” I said.
“What’s with that all of a sudden?”
“I could be wrong, but Fini, you’re Toriyama, aren’t you?”

It sounded like selfish speculation. A selfish interpretation. I wanted to say that being selfish wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I couldn’t shake the thought. Fini looked at me.

“Can you promise not to tell any being that you have met me, and who I am, until this world falls apart?”
“I can. I promise.”
“Fujiwara, do you promise?”
“I do.”
“Well, fine then. It’s not like telling you will trouble me in any way. I just didn’t do it because it was a hassle. More than anything, it seems easier to say now that we’ve brought it up.”

Fini was going on about her monologue, but when I realized that she was, in fact, Toriyama, all the fear and tension I’d felt earlier suddenly vanished. I felt relieved, happy even, that he was alive. But then I remembered… her age was listed as zero.

That meant he had died once. He died… and came back to life. When I thought of that, I didn’t know whether to be happy or sad.

“As you’ve guessed, I was originally Toriyama Makoto. But now, I’m Finis. I have retained both my memory and my will, so it wouldn’t be wrong to say that I am indeed Toriyama Makoto. So, whenever a boy from my class calls me some cute nickname, I can’t help but die a bit inside, so please, don’t call me that again.”
“Wait a second. So Toriyama, you’re now Fin…”

As Michihisa was about to call Finis by her nickname again, Fini, or rather Toriyama, extended her arm straight out, aimed directly at Michihisa’s neck. From a distance, it was hard to see, but I noticed a thin trickle of blood running down.

When Fini smiled, Michihisa quickly cleared his throat and corrected himself.

“So, Toriyama, you were reborn as Finis?”
“That’s right. I actually died satisfied, but then God selfishly called on me and asked me to retrieve the spirits for him. The reason is that he’ll use them to create a new world. Maybe he could’ve managed to save it, but he’s abandoned it since long ago. And now, even God doesn’t save this world anymore.”

“Is this how you’re going to look from now on, Toriyama?”
“Well, God told me that this was the only body he had. It’s not exactly up my alley either. Anyway, back to the point. This world will be destroyed. But I, and the classmates who abstained from torturing me, a total of four, including you two… will be saved. But that is only if you stay alive until the world collapses. So please, do your best to survive2. I’m unable to watch out for you until then.”

My mind struggled to process what had just happened, but it felt like the problem we’d been fighting so hard to solve had finally, somehow, been resolved3.
