“Your Majesty! Your Highness! Please evacuate at once! And as for you ruffians—disarm yourselves immediately and stand down!”

The knight commander barked his orders, grouping the blonde knight and the mage girl among the so-called “ruffians.” However, the emperor, sheltered behind his guards, gestured toward the two and issued a firm command.

“Wait. They’re acquaintances of mine—you needn’t concern yourselves with them. Focus on that thief instead and drive him back.”

Without hesitation, he sent the imperial guards against the Azure God, his voice sharp and commanding.

“As you command! Knights, focus on the target!”

The moment the emperor’s order fell, the knight commander saluted before leading his troops into formation. Weapons were raised, and those adept in magic began chanting their incantations.

“…This is madness, Father. You’re sending them to their deaths.” Oliana murmured from within her father’s embrace, her expression clouded with worry for the knights.

“You’re not wrong, my dear. But at the very least, this will buy us time. Besides, a death in service to their duty is far more honorable than a meaningless end.”

Brushing aside her concerns, the emperor cast a fond gaze upon his daughter, though her face was clouded with an unreadable expression. He then turned his attention to Lubbock and Tamegoro, both poised for battle—sword and wand trained on the Azure God.

“The knights will hold him off—use this chance to get Oliana to safety under the Rose Princess’ protection.”

“Sorry, but that’s not an option,” Tamegoro replied, her face tense. “As long as he holds that jewel, our fate is in his hands.”

“She’s right—we may not be able to escape with the princess under these circumstances.” Lubbock wore the same strained expression as he elaborated on their predicament.

“So that’s how it is… A precarious situation, indeed. But as I see it, he only has one jewel in his possession. Do you think we can stall him long enough to send my daughter away before he reaches the second one?”

“ “Wha—?!” ”

Oliana and Lubbock were struck speechless by the emperor’s ruthless suggestion. He was proposing the sacrifice of not only the imperial guards, but even Tamegoro—all to secure an escape route for Oliana. Yet, amid their shock, a fearless grin spread across Tamegoro’s face, mirrored by the resolute expressions of the imperial guards.

“Fine by me~! Sounds like a great plan. I’ve been itching to give that b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲ a piece of my mind anyway. And if it means saving the princess, well—that’s two birds with one stone!”

“We, the imperial guards, exist to burn our very souls for the empire. If our sacrifice ensures the princess’ survival, then we could ask for no greater honor.”

“Indeed. Then I leave this matter in your capable hands.”

At the emperor’s brisk command, the guards saluted without hesitation before charging at the Azure God. The Court Sorcerers—each classified as a ‘Master Adept’ in human terms—stood in formation, their magic surging forth in support of the assault.

“…More pigs to the slaughter. Fools.”

Azure God scoffed at their futile resistance and reached beneath his robe with his right hand, retrieving an impossibly large sword, while his left hand remained tightly clenched around the jewel. The sheer size of the weapon defied logic, leaving one to wonder how he had concealed something so massive.

The sword’s grip gleamed with a golden hue, and with the blade included, it measured roughly two meters in length. But more striking than its size was the second blade encasing it—a translucent, crystal-like construct nearly a meter wide and extending the weapon’s total length to over three meters.

“Amadeus.”

A chill ran down Lubbock’s spine the moment he laid eyes on the sword, his hair standing on end as Azure God murmured its name. Perhaps it was instinct, or the very talent that had earned him the title of strongest in «E.H.O», but he immediately understood—this was no ordinary weapon.

“No! Get out of his range—now!!”

The moment the realization struck him, Lubbock shouted a desperate warning to the imperial guards—but it was too late. With a single sweeping arc of his colossal blade, Azure God cut through the empire’s finest as though they were mere weeds. The sheer force of the strike sent a shockwave rippling outward, shattering the palace’s glass windows and reducing yet another section of the historic structure to rubble.

“Agh!” “Urgh—!” “Kyaa!”

Lubbock instinctively deployed his nine swords, reinforcing them with «Aegis» to withstand the shockwave, while Tamegoro conjured a fire shield. Yet, even though they weren’t the sword’s primary target, the sheer force of its aftermath proved overwhelming, sending all four of them flying.

“What the hell is that sword…? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in any official records!”

What was even more staggering, however, was the sheer devastation it caused. Lubbock, still reeling from the impact, glanced at «Aegis»—only to see fractures creeping across its surface.

“Snap out of it! We don’t have time to gawk at his tricks! If we hesitate, we’re dead—just keep pushing forward!” Tamegoro lunged forward, shouting as she caught sight of Lubbock’s momentary hesitation from the corner of her eye. Without pause, she conjured a storm of fireballs, filling the air with burning embers.

“«Prominence Burst», is it? Impressive fire magic… but its lengthy activation time has always been its downfall.” Azure God muttered in a detached tone, his fingers tightening ever so slightly around the jewel.

“—Ghh…!!”

A jagged crack formed across the surface of the jewel, and instantly, Tamegoro doubled over, clutching her chest in agony. Yet, despite the pain, her determination didn’t waver. Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to complete another spell.

“Wind Tornado!”

Just as the blazing orbs from «Prominence Burst» reached Azure God, a powerful tornado roared into existence, swallowing him whole. The collision of fire and wind birthed a towering inferno—a pillar of searing heat, burning with unstoppable fury.

“And for the finale—Flare Buster!” With her final incantation, she conjured a blazing dome of fire, sealing the towering inferno within its scorching embrace.

“Heh, how’s that for an extra special serving? Didn’t you all love calling me a pyromaniac? Hmph! Well, burn in the flames of my comeback!”

“I don’t know what your HP is, but as long as you’re alive, you need oxygen to breathe. And with this combination, you’ll have none left. My spell will consume every last trace of it—before long, you’ll black out. There’s no escaping unscathed, so don’t even think about—”

“Oh? So this is what desperation looks like from a failure.” Before Tamegoro could finish her boast, a voice cut through her words—calm, amused. Then, a sharp crack rang out. Like glass shattering. Tamegoro’s breath hitched. Her face went pale. Clutching her chest, she collapsed to her knees.

“Tamegoro!!”

“…Man… How many times… do I have to tell you…? My name… isn’t Tamegoro… It’s… Iroha Mei… Alright—”

Amid the chaos, Oliana could do nothing but watch as Tamegoro let out a weak, wry shrug. She couldn’t see clearly—Tamegoro’s back was to her—but it looked as if she reached into her pocket, pulled something out, and slipped it into her mouth.

A sharp, unmistakable snap echoed through the air. And in that instant—every trace of life drained from the once-lively girl.
